- A very good course- my master´,s thesis would not have been the same without this preparation. » (yes)
- was good to find an idea. It could give you more time to think and give more examples of possible topics and past thesis presentations.» (yes)
- It helped me a lot with developing the idea and what direction to take. Good course but also heavy.» (yes)
- It made me thinking about the thesis, which of course was very good. But in the same time it made me very stressed about the whole process and the expectations of the thesis. If I would have ended working with the proposal I had for the course I think I would have a better experience from it. Although, overall very good to have a preparation course and also that it is taking up issues of how to work with the process itself. » (yes)

3. What is your opinion about the information and guidance before starting your thesis?

- I started my thesis in an autumn semester, which was not originally planned. For me, it would have been very good if we had been given more information during the 1st year of the master, so I could have been more prepared for my thesis.» (bad)

- Better than most of the courses At Chalmers Architecture, but still there are some mayor problems, like that we didn"t know what date to present (examination) to 1,5 weeks before.» (good)
- Långa omständiga mail från Saddek, svåra att ta till sig. Dålig portal för bokning av rum för presentation, info till katalog mm. » (bad)
- A lot of different information, many emails. Collect in in one information hand out (or something..) » (bad)

5. What is your opinion about the information you have recieved, regarding the requirements of a master"s thesis?

- Not very clear what is required» (bad)
- The result demanded from examiners seem to vary greatly, especially between different masters programmes. As for me, I was not at all prepared for what was required, and found little help from previous thesises in the library, as they varied so much.» (bad)

- was really not clear what a master thesis in MPDSD should include , or to which scale it should be designed.» (bad)
- I found this part very hard for the MPDSD program since the thesis work is differentiating a lot between students. Also if the supervisor is not clear about this it is a problem» (bad)

- Often, I had to first do something wrong only to be told afterwards how to plan and what methods to use. So in the end I learned a lot, but at the cost of much extra time.» (It has partly been fulfilled)

- The time limitation for fulfilling all these objectives and others is quite tough.Especially when doing theory + project thesis.» (It has mostly been fulfilled)

9. What is your opinion about the mid-term seminar?

- The interview we did with another student was very helpful. Also good to gather the master students!» (very good)
- Very good feedback that saved my thesis, maybe.» (very good)
- my examiner was too much concentrated on my report which was just a draft at tht point. I would have prefere to receive more feedbacks oon how to move futher and not on what i did already» (good)
- It is a good check point, maybe to make it more like a round table discussion than a presentation (wich I think you are trying to see it as but we students see it more as a presentation that we have to pass). Also having a meeting just student, supervisor and examinar between 1st meeting and mid seminar would be very helpful to make sure we are all on the same track. » (good)

10. What is your opinion about the mandatory critics from your student colleagues at the midterm seminar?

- Väldig bra att det finns, man skulle kunna lägga ännu mer vikt på det!Nu var det halvhjärtat från många. » (very good)

11. What is your opinion about the final seminar (examination), and are you satisfied with the jury"s comments about your work?

- Very interesting and good jury. Interesting debate and good to have so much time. » (very good)
- It"s great that you find jury that is relevant for the work and that they took time to read it through and give a long and good feedback/comments» (very good)
- I had been given indications by my examiner (based on my thesis) 1 week prior to the seminar, which made me comfortable I would pass with conditions. At the final seminar however, I was completely cut by the ancles by especially one jury member, Michael Edén. The criticism was often irrelevant and/or hard(in my opinion) and did not lead to any good discussion. My examiner picked up on his view and I didn"t pass. I was not so much disappointed as I was angry when I left. Afterwards, I was given a long list of conditions, and looking back I wonder how it is possible that my examiner could not indicate this prior to the seminar. » (very bad)

12. What is your opinion about the tutoring from the supervisor?

- Engaged, positive and experienced, but with bad planning and little time.» (good)
- Handledarna måste få mer tid att ägna åt sina exjobbsstudenter. Tidsbudgeten är löjligt snål. » (good)
- From the beginning to the mid-term it was hard to get feedback.» (good)
- I felt that the supervisor didn"t recognize the direction which I wanted to go (that"s of course on me to show this too, but in the beginning when you don"t know it is hard), he/she was not enough open minded and a bit pushing it in the way he/she wanted it, or "architectural beliefs" . Which lead to even more confusion for me. Also no interest in reading the text/ theory although this was in the end almost 50 % of my theis. » (very bad)

13. What is your opinion about your examinor"s work to evaluate and give criteria for your thesis?

- Very good, but very into details and references and sources. There is a big different between the examiners regarding what they demand on sources, references and academic standard. this is not fair regarding the time I had to put into this and others did´,t have to » (very good)
- I wished I had met the examinar more times after the start meeting and not only on mid- and final seminar. » (good)
- För lite kommunikation med examinatorn i ett tidigt skede. Kan man inte involvera dem i de förberedande kurserna?» (bad)
- The criteria given seemed to just increase more and more over time, and I was given list after list of corrections.» (very bad)

14. How did the tutor and examinor function together? How would you have liked their roles to have been?

- Different, clear roles.»
- Very good. They had a clear communication between each other and towards me. »
- They did not always agree with each other and sometimes gave different opinions on the same matter. Over all however, I would say that they tried to communicate as well as possible.»
- more meetings with both of them could have been good. Not always their ideas about my thesis were the same»

- Wish that all three of us would have met together. Otherwise I don"t know, don"t think they hade any contact except mid term meeting (good to have that)»

Exhibition, public presentation and the role of the censors

16. What is your opinion about the organization of the exhibition?

- Oflexibel och inte så engagerande. » (bad)
- quite confused placements of mpdsd thesis compared to mparch thesis. not enough time to organize the exibition since we had to work on our report again and again and again after the final critic... » (bad)
- Make it a party and attract politicians, workers, people from outside Chalmers. I think MPDSD comes out as a bit childish in the exhibition unfortunatly (not to extent more design of exhibition space). Not sure about the wooden structures..» (very bad)

17. What is your opinion about the presence of the censor at your presentation?

- But it is very unclear what kinds of questions they are there to ask. Espacially since I attend another presentation where the censor said that their role was not to go into detail, and I felt that that was exactly what my censor did. And i have seen many presentations over the years where they have more focused on the process and not the actual project. So it is not very clear what they are supposed to ask.» (good)
- Understand that it is a bit hard for them to really get into the MPDSD thesis since it is a lot of focus on the report and not much time for the sensors to read this, » (good)

18. What is your opinion about the value of the public presentation?

- I think it serves a good purpose for younger students. It could however be good to remind the presenter that many in the audience may not have come far in their education yet, so that the presentation can be planned for the right audience. I was personally surprised by the amount of people that came to see my presentation and would have planned it differently.» (very good)
- it should be better advertised and maybe people from architectural firms should be directly invited by chalmers to follow this event» (good)
- I really don´,t see the point of this presentation. Especially if there is not that many people turning up, because them you present for the people you presented in December. » (bad)
- As it is now, not attrating people from outside Chalmers, I"m sad to not see that much value in it. Although good for family and friends to listen to presentation. Opening cermony should be at evening with free champagne! » (bad)

19. What is your opinion about the administration and coordination of all the events from registration to final presentation?

- Maja is really good» (very good)
- Maja does a fantastic work, both that it is possible to turn to her about the administration but also just to talk if so. But sometimes it feels like she needs a duplicate to manage everything and get out information in time, which is understandable. » (good)
- The information during the semester was poorly. we kept sending emails and didn´,t get any answers regarding date and time for mid critics and final seminar. this is extra stress in the process for students. » (very bad)


Possible improvements

20. What should be preserved for the future?

- The role of the coordinator»
- Mid critics. Leadership course.»
- The exhibition coordination by Tabita was great.»
- the clear structure and deadlines»
- External and internal jury in the final seminar. Very, very good.»
- Coordination and administration of the thesis, just make it more efficient and clear about the guidlines before we start.»

21. What should be changed in the future?

- Decide the level of ambitions for the exjibition»
- Examiners should have the same requirements. The information regarding time/dates should be much much better.»
- More clear instructions on what a thesis can be about, what it must contain to pass, and clear examples of how it could be done to reach the required level.»
- Högre budget för material i modellverkstaden och tryck av exjobben! Man skall inte behöva lägga ut flera 1000 kr som student. Jag la totalt ut över 2000 kr i exjobbet. »
- more specific guidlines about the thesis contents and difference between one person work and two peopele work must be stated»
- Better room to be in for MPDSD, or clean out the studio before each semester and make sure the heating is on. Maybe force student to have feedback presentation to each other (although I feel this is something we should be able to organize ourself but we didnt do this and I feel I lacked the discussions with my fellow students). »

22. What is your overall opinion of the master thesis work process?

- Good»
- For me it was a good process. »
- I think that the ones responsible for the MPDSD programme need to think about what should be required by a thesis. And reflect on the question of what an architect"s role can be. For me, I felt that I put in a lot of effort in questions that not all architects study, while giving some of the more "traditional" areas less time. In the end I put in a lot more time than some of my colleagues, but still didn"t pass as my thesis lacked some of the things others put in.»

- It is good that it is flexible so that a person could go abroad and still have mid-crit over skype etc. And that things are adjusted to this. So although it might be some unclear things from time to time it is still good that it can be flexible.»
- It was tough, I"m glad I made it but also a bit sad over that I didn"t enyoj it as much. If this is because of my chosen topic, the high expectations I had before or bad tutoring I dont know. Maybe a combination.»
