- I"m quite displeased with the examination, I think that in many cases much more pedagogic and suitable exercises could"ve been chosen. In many cases the exercises were just a hassle without given any deeper understanding of the subject at hand. When hints were given, they were too vague and pointless. The binary grading system of each exercise was highly unsatisfactory as well. If you knew beforehand that you might not be able to solve one of the subquestions, you had nothing to gain from doing anything on that exercise since you would still get 0 points. There was no point in showing that you actually could do most of the exercise and I think that this is counter-productive, since the object of the course is learning, not getting perfect grades. Especially since 2/3 of the course was spent figuring out Mathematica rather than Dynamical systems, it"s even more absurd to choose non-intuitive exercises. If it"s too time-consuming to grade it more carefully, get someone else to do it next year.» (To some extent)

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- The binary grading system. No points were given until everything perfectly solved. Solve everything but one last small detail and you failed. Compleatly. No motivation to work when you know that you don"t get a reward until after another 20h, and even then maybe. You don"t know if all the hard wourk will give anything at all, very effective at killing the motivation to work when nothing is gained. »
- The grading system is very unfair considering the amount of time spent on the assignments. If there are five questions each with five subquestions you should get credit for what you"ve solved. »
- I didnt feel that the homeworks reflected what was tought in the lectures. In my opinion the lectures were good and at the right level -- but the homeworks were very difficult and assumed a lot of background knowlege that I know many of us felt we didn"t have. »
- Interesting course, but seriously, look through the prerequisites for the course and tell me where all the hamiltonian junk comes in. The half lecture, said to be a quick review, and the non-existent reading instructions, were to no help. This was just one out of many examples of how the teacher should not assume that all students are from a math or physics programme. Complex analysis is another example.»
- The examinations were poorly written. The lectures were poorly planed, what was said in 2 hours could have been said in 15 min.»

16. Additional comments

- No course PM- strictly againt the rules No information on how example sheets were graded until after the second (of 6) were handed in, making student unable to anticipate the binary, strict grading system leading to worse grades. No clear deadline on first assignment. Large confusion when it really was due. Deadline on webpage from previous year (tue 8/4). Since a programing language new to the majority of student was to be used extensivly during the course a lab, with possibilities to ask for help, would be hugely appriciated. Examiner doesn"t anwer mails leading to uncertatinty whether he has read them and no answers to questions asked. In short a dreadful course. Horrible and should be totally redone ore taken out of the CAS-program. (the topic fits, the course does not)»
- Since one got nothing for working with a problem but not completing it (and a lot of problems being a - e ones), and since the home works were so difficult, I felt encouraged not to try a problem I wasn"t completely sure I could finish. It would be better if the score-algorithm encouraged the students to do as much as possible.»
