Genomsnitt: 2.46 - Unfortunately although being able to answer all aims of this course (including old exam questions and excercises as well as group excercises, the exam was a collection of all the trickiest tasks and in my opinion did not show whether someone had understood the subject. » (No, not at all)
- I have understood the topics of the course, but my mark doesn"t show that.» (No, not at all)
- I didn"t like the exam at all. I think way to much priority was put at doing long, repetitive calculations. Instead of making you think about energy systems and making ingenious conclusions, the exam made you do very long calculations, where room for errors must have been very large. The memory in my calculator ran out several times during the exam. Personally I felt very well prepared before the exam, but in the second part of the exam I felt very stressed and probably made loads of errors. I didn"t have time to answer the last question and the LP question which I saved to the end. For future courses I advice you to make exams that are shorter and more concise, focusing on knowledge rather than stamina when it comes to solving long problems.» (To some extent)

- the examination was a disappointment. the numericals were a repitition of the same concept over and over again which is not testing the knowledge but just consumes time. I could not attempt the theory questions as i didnt have enough time and the theory questions had lesser points. I would have liked to answer more of the theory questions with analytical reasoning and then numericals (if so many) testing different concepts.» (To some extent)

- Lecture notes are not good enough. It"s ok for presenting in a classroom, but when we need to revise it at home on our own you cannot connect all the pieces. Side literature is not enough to help with this. If you weren"t concentrated all the time during all the lectures it"s hard to discover what was the message with presentations.» (Some extent)

- DH lect. held quite a low level compared to our prior knowledge. She were ineffective in suprevising classes, since she held long introductions which were not interesting for everyone since some groops were way ahead» (Rather badly)

- Could also be a good idea and not talk to your students as if they were idiots, or atleast hiding it better that you feel this way.
Also when a group is presenting and another is opposing, do not jump in with questions before the presentation is complete. It is rude, it ruins the presentation and it takes away potential questions from the opposing group..» (Very badly)

- It was interesting to get to know a tool that is widely used, but since we didn"t go deep into how the program worked it was difficult to get a deeper understanding. The sensitivity analysis was the best part of the exercise, where we got a good understanding of modelling.» (Some extent)

- the lectures were really interesting but while doing the numericals during the exam, i felt frustrated maybe because I was expecting the exam to be as thought provoking as the lectures but it was not. we didnt have time to look outside our calculators. For eg, instead of full calculations for 4 different cases in the last problem, it would have been better if it was asked to solve just 1 or 2 cases and maybe the load duration curves for all the cases. » (Good)

- Exam. The exercises needed too much work and in some cases were ambiguous.»
- There could have been more lectures. The second part of the course had few lectures. I think the exam should be changed. The calculations were very repetitive. Personally I got stressed and wasn"t very focused during the last two hours due to the long questions. Instead of presentations at the end of the different assignments I would have prefered more discussion based seminars. »

- The exam. It is way to big. When practically everybody sits the entire time even when an extra hour is added, the amount of information that has to be put down on paper is "too damn high", to qoute Jimmy McMillan.
No, but if you feel that nothing can be removed or scaled down from the exam then maybe put an individual project or such during the period for some subject and remove that subject from the exam. This way the size of the exam is scaled down, but the learning is not.»

Some got really good groups for some it really didnt work at all.
A suggestion if you insist on doing the group dividing: Mix the countries up in the group and dont put 1 swede and 2 of another country in a group, or 2 swedes and 1 other person. I suspect that can be hard to do but try as much as you can.»

- All the lectures were surprisingly good. Olivia"s approach is very good because she is always in a good mood. Assignments are very good way of learning and I would definitely keep that. Quizzes before assignments are so bad that I don"t know why we did this.

Lina mentioned several times that drawing LP graph will come to the exam. Also, several tasks that we performed about LP programming was on the trace she was talking about. But, in the exam task that came was completely different. It wasn"t too difficult, but I don"t think anyone expected something like this so it would be better not to give any advice than give a wrong one.

To sum up, surprisingly good course which I would definitely recommend.

- The one and only one reason I am writing this is beacuse Mikael wants us to write this. I really appreciate and applaud your motivation to read our review and feed back. Having said this .I can write a long list of things but here are a few.
1. For the professor PLEASE and seriously PLEASE what is there in this course that only a MASTERS STUDENT can appreciate and work and not a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT. Conversion from GWh to MWh or vice versa. Please I seriously thought that there would be something really technical and I would have to do dop brain storming or tear my books in frustration trying to understand because in my view that is when we really learn something that stays in our head forever.
2. District heating, Nordic power market, Biomass CHP, Electrical vehicles, WInd Power penetration. We definitely know what all this is and the problems. I thought I would learn some models and way to solve all this and not just analyse. Financial accounting ,net present worth, its all what I knew before hand.
In the end sorry if the comments are rude or harsh but they are HONEST and again I say that I am writing all this only because Mikael is constantly sending emails for the feedback. One good thing is that I have now found one professor in chalmers who REALLY CARES SO MUCH ABOUT THE FEEDBACK. CHEERS !!»
- It was a mean thing to say that the exam would be easier this year since we didn"t have any bonus points, and then having a more difficult and time consuming exam than any of the previous years. It still doesn"t change the fact that the amount of knowledge that we have to accumulate should be the same, but sitting at the exam, having some expectations about the extent of it, and then getting something completely else causes a "shocking" situation and wastes time. It"s always better to expect worse and get something easier that the other way around. »

- It was said that as we don"t get points for the assignments the exam will be easier than last year. That was definitely not the case! Especially the LP example was completely different than any of the ones we did during the exercises. Also the theory questions were pretty much reflection questions. Therefore points for the assignments would be a good alternative (if the difficulty level of the exam remains that high).»
