14. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The lab seminars.»
- Literature project.»
- The book. The guest lecturers. Aldo :)»
- I think the course should be kept as it is today. It was a nice course»
- The labs»
- The course structure with report/presentation instead of a written test. Also most of the guest lectures.»
- The project is much better then a exam.»
- The labs. They were very good in giving hands on experience as well as theoretical knowledge. The pre-lab discussion sessions was also very good for learning/ understanding. The feed-back on the presentations, it was educative to listen to all those comments about presentation techniques and slide optimization, not just receiving guidelines but no feed-back as the case in many other courses.»
- The laborations, they complemented the rest of the course in a good way.»
- The opportunity to define your focus in the course through literature study was great initiative, and must be preserved»
- The laborations were very good.»
- different presentations/different teachers which gives an example where analytical chemistry is used today»
- The laboratory exercises. »
- Aldo did an amazing job as course leader. His great enthusiasm for what he does, and his passion to teach really made this an amazing course to take!»
- Aldo»

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- better labmanuals.»
- Less guest lectures, some of them were to detailed and not very interesting. »
- The in class test I didnt like. It was a very stressful environment and I felt stressed and I did not have time to write down everything I actually knew, I think at least 15 minutes should be valid for this test.»
- Have a lecture as the last chance to hand in the project. It felt really bad that Aldo had to sit in his office all night waiting for the last projects. I also have a suggestion for the presentations. Have them in smaller groups and have opponents to actually force people to read someone elses report and ask questions. Then all the presentations each individual will hear could have different topics so that it won"t get so booring listening to many similar presentations.»
- It was very stressful to sit and listen to 2 days of presentations and be one of the last groups. It would have been more than enough to have to sit through one of the days.»
- The mandatory presence during all presentation in study week 7. It would be better to divide us into smaller groups and you only have to be present when your group is presenting»
- The time limit for in class tests. The test should be a measure of knowledge and not speed of writing/thinking. 10 minutes was not enough time for me or most of my fellow students.»
- The project was overly detailed, "describe the method in detail" means that you write page up and page down exactly what they did in the report which is not very useful. 2-3 slides was mentioned in the project paper, but then on the presentation you said 3-4. I don"t see why there needs to be a limit, (very few followed it anyway). To use e-mail and that orwar zipfile when Chalmers have a perfectly good system at the webpage is very confusing and is also below all critique. The MS laboration included to write how the analysed molecules broke down in every step, this is knowledge that is entirely useless and never useful out in the industry or research labs. Also the knowledge is not available to us students, so we are forced to just guess wildly and hope for the best, because the lab assistant doesn"t check that at all. Aldo said himself that the problem with school is that you learn things that you have no need of at work.»
- Update the lab manuals. Usage of course home page where all the available course material is stored in one place. Mailing back and forth just makes everything very messy. Assignment hand in: It is quite nasty to have a deadline at 24:00, when the hand in must be carried out in printed paper. Of course we as students can be ready and hand in ahead of time, but that is usually not easy (especially in this period with a monster course on the side). When handling in assignments electronically, they can be commented right away in the pdf file and then returned through email, just as Jelena did with the lab reports.»
- The examination! it would be better to have a "normal" examination instead of the presentation. It felt like only the structure and "powerpoint skills" was examined, instead of the actual content of the presentation. The grade in an analytical course should not be based upon ones knowledge in powerpoint.»
- It was really really tough to focus on 2 equally exiting and high attention demanding course in LP3 with Protein Engineering, will love if each will run in separate quarter, and So much Lab work in Protein Engineering (KBB110) needed to be 15 credits and full time and not clubbed with this course. Please consider if KBB110 do not need to be place in same LP»
- For the final examination, people should be divided into groups so that all individuals do not have to attend all presentations as it was very hard to listen and focus so many hours. »
- Some of the guest speakers were pretty bad, atleast make sure they can speak English with a good somewhat natural flow... otherwise it´,s just painful to listen to.»

16. Additional comments

- I think Aldo some times were to hard on some students in front of the whole class or during the lab seminars. When he gave comments/criticism after our presentations some comments were not were nice and I don"t think students like being told such things in front of everybody else. I would also have preferred if we have gotten the article which we should review sooner, especially before we should wrote the synopsis. We only had a few days to write it since we got the articles so late. »
- Was many times hard to get help and Aldo was late very often. I feel sorry for him having so much to do and I think he needs help with the course or otherwise the students will in the end suffer due to him not being able to give them the time they need.»
- Det vore bra om föreläsaren lägger ut kursmaterialet på kurshemsidan, istället för någon form av hemsnickrad hemsida.»
- Good course and I"ve learned a lot but it seems like Aldo works too much»
- The report was fun to write but a little more guidence as to what the aim should be/the content and not only guidelines on font size etc.»
- Interseting course but due to a lot of different parts in the same course it was hard to get a holistic view. It felt like you had very much on going at the same time and that resulted in that you felt stressed some times. The teacher was good but it seems like he had to much other things to do to be able to work it all out in a desirable way. »
- Good teacher. Nice labs. Overall very positive to the course»
- Great thinking to alternate a course structure. Feels like more courses could take advantage of similar methods.»
- I love the course and the feeling blessed to have Aldo as my teacher»
- very interesting course!»
- Something needs to be done about the presentations (if there is alot of ppl in this course next year), sitting and listening to presentations for 6-7 hours straight can´,t be fun for anyone, examinator included.»
- Very interesting course set up»
