What prevented you from attending exercise sessions?- Time»- I felt self-study fit better with my schedule.» - Same as above.» - Clashing events» - Too much individual/group work. Want more exercise solving on the blackboard.» - It would have been beter with fewer exercises and prepared solutions at the end. Alternative that the students read the exercise for 5 minutes and gave it a try, then the teatchers showed the solutions and explained the method to use. » - Had to work on weekly subbmission» - Assignment deadlines on the same day. My time was better spent at home solving the mandatory assignments. Exercise sessions on fridays would have been better.» - I did not have enough time to prepare properly the exercises. » - Frankly, the tutor (Leonid?) had a really shitty attitude.» - I did not like them. I would had liked those who held the sessions to give a problem, maybe give a hint 15 minutes later, and in the end solve the problems for the whole class. The way I learn the best is to try to solve the problem myself, preferably by discussing with a friend, and then getting a presentation of how the problem can be solved. Since I had other obligations, the whole sessions became frustrating.» - The exercises were too difficult and had no huge relation to the lectures. And I had the feeling that the exercise were quite a lot related to the preceding algorithms course, which I did not attend at chalmers.» - Own tardiness.» - The exercise sessions weren"t a priority since the lectures and hand-in assignments felt more important to prioritize to get a good grade. I think most people felt that it was more worth working on the assignments than attending at the exercise sessions even if they probably were good.» - They had the wrong approach. I would like to see some examples exercises solved during the exercises instead of just working of your own. The exercise sessions was not presented that well. The exercise room was not optimized for working on your own with exercises but rather listening to a teacher doing exercises on the black board, and the approach with the exercises was the opposite.» - I thought it was enough to do the assignment and focus on them instead. It was to much to do other exercises aswell and I don"t think I learn very much from being there. What would be the most rewarding form of oral exercises in this course?- None»- High-level explanation of core course concepts.» - Wow, what a nice piece of English language this question is. » - The weekly exercise sets were good and rewarding (considering also the optional ones as bonus). Maybe this course could also function with oral exercises, some short questions testing the critical ability of the student.» - Oral examination an exercise.» - Perhaps on the exercise-sessions we could have discussed this weeks assignment » - Can"t think of anything. I think written exercises are better for such complex problems, giving you more time to provide solid proofs, not just hand-waving.» - There were not oral exercises» - I don"t think oral excercises would be fitting at all.» - Perhaps present the hand-ins orally. » - ?» - I don"t see why that must be a part in the course. Liked the course» - I think that the course is good, but should be more hints in hand-in exercises.» - The weekly problems & their format were excellent.» - I was satisfied with the course as it was, gives time and room for some own thinking and analysis which I found very good and interesting. Like the more "scientific" perspective of the course. Don"t make oral exercises part of examination or mandatory. » - The examination methods.» - Everything except the exercises.» 18. What should definitely be changed to next year?- Not definitely, but maybe some sections from chapter 12 of the course book (even though I guess that local search is part of other courses).»- Another form of exercise sessions.» - Exercises» - The problem sessions. I can do problem solving at my house. I would like to change these sessions, instead of having the student solve problems, the teacher can solve them on the board by teaching how to think over the problem and explain how to think and what techniques to use.» - Exercise sessions on different days than the assignment deadlines.» - Excercise session format» - Sometimes the slides can be hard to read if you missed a lecture. Not a major problem but worth mentioning.» - The opportunity to prepare before class. Thank you!»- This is a subject I really enjoy, and I believe that the course was very good. I did invest a lot of time in the course, but despite this, I did not pass.
