- The course was one that required a lot of reading during the study period. I did not anticipate that and late in the course I was too far behind to catch up. Other courses had a lot of things keeping me busy, and I am used to having a couple of weeks of study-time before exams.» (At most 15 hours/week)
- The total time spent on the course was reasonable. But I have to admit that most of that time was concentrated to the last weeks before the exam. From what the lecturer said, I had the impression that equations and calculations weren"t needed. I would have liked to spend more time on the course, recommended problems for each subject/lecture would have been of help.» (Around 20 hours/week)

- It was hard to study for the exam since we didn"t know what to learn. Obviously you couldn"t learn the whole book and the exam questions were about things that just had been mentioned for about 2 seconds » (No, not at all)
- One question was pure Thermodynamics, which was not the main focus during the course.» (To some extent)
- The course felt a lot like you should understand the principles and that formulas was not need to be known by heart. In the exams from earlier years as well as this one you had to know formulas by heart.» (To some extent)

- Lectures don"t go into enough detail. You attend lectures and think that all is fine, in the end you have not learned anything of what you need for the exam. When you go to lectures and don"t understand anything it drives you to read the literature. When you go there and understand everything, it does not really help you. Liquid Crystal lectures were very nice.» (Small extent)
- The teacher was good but powerpoint is not a good tool for teaching. » (Small extent)
- The lectures tended to be a bit too sketchy sometimes, especially considering the home assignments and the exam that required not-so-sketchy answers.» (Some extent)
- Alexander have great lectures witch gives a good overview. Pelles lectures were a bit disorganized. Would be beneficiary to be more structured and not be so unsecured when answering a question. » (Great extent)

- It was a good complement for the lectures. For some parts. Not the LC and the polymer melts.» (Some extent)
- The book was not that good, it just stated stuff without explainging too much. I guess it is the best book alternative however?» (Some extent)
- Main source for learning, but: the book totally sucks. It"s so full of errors! Sentences that contradict themselves and a lot of erroneous negations and confusions of terms. You could usually sort this out, but it distracts you from reading.» (Large extent)

- The last week during the exam it was difficult to understand some questions. It would help to have answers on the previous exams, then not so many questions would arise. During the lectures it was good. » (Rather poor)

- Pretty interesting course mostly focusing on how instead of why» (Adequate)
- Maybe not so good to have to learn almost every formula to the exam. Maybe one can instead get a paper with almost every formula but absolutely no description.» (Adequate)

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- More detailed lectures. More hand-ins.»
- Not assume knowledge of chemistry. State more clearly what is important for the exam. »

- The exam should be more correlated to the teaching. If the teaching is about understanding shouldn"t the exam be about calculating. »
- Personally I thought it got a bit messy/confusing having so many different lecturers. Also I"ve never really liked 100% power point lectures.»
- A couple of recommended problems after each lecture would have been useful. It"s much easier to learn if you have problem to work with rather than reading a text time after time.»
- Have answers on the previous exams. Have more hand ins to understand the material. »
- There should perhaps be a better table of formulas allowed on the exam.»

- Per should be more prepared. He often just pulled something from his hat and wrote it down on the board without much of an explanation. Worst of all: No one mentioned that entities with the same name and symbol, was defined differently depending on it was information from the lecture or from the course litterature. Also when this was acknowledged (during a hand in) Per said that "you probably made this mistake, heh.." and that"s about how all his lectures were. Some mumbling, short insecure laughs. I know it is hard to teach, I"ve done it myself, but please try not to sound condescending when you laugh to students that don"t know stuff you should have taught them.»

- I needed more practice for the exam! Maybe some suggestions of good exercises in the book or so, because the ones I tried to solve there did not improve my understanding that much. »

- The exam and lectures should have the same goals, this was not the case this year. »
- too few recommended excercises for doing some "hands on" soft matter. I barely did any calculations during the entire course.It"s hard to involve yourself in the course because of that.»
