- The chemistry part was not equal to the content of the lectures» (To some extent)
- Yes, but unfortunately it only tested memorizable things. I felt like someone who simply memorized could have scored as well as someone who knew the subject because the questions didn"t necessarily test understanding.» (To some extent)

- To much information in his pp slides. To much small details that makes the big picture disappear. I would like more focus on the big picture! To many seminars that took way to much time (always spent the weekends studying as well), it was very unclear what you were suppose to calculate and how. Have only 2 seminars + oral presentation next time!» (Some extent)
- No straight answers are given. Very difficult to understand, not conducive to learning, could be more organised» (Some extent)
- My favorite! I felt that I always got a good answer, and that the lecturer had incredible knowledge and answered the question I was asking. I heard others had a hard time understanding what was going on, but I thought it was clear and I probably learned the most from these lectures during the whole quarter.» (Great extent)

- Knew almost everything before (chem background)» (Some extent)
- I felt like there was a lack of knowledge when teaching (she kept asking the students to correct something if there was a mistake). I didn"t think the equations really helped any understanding because they weren"t introduced and incorporated into the environment/environmental protection setting - it was just here is the equation for this which happens here, but there was no overall image of what happened with the chemistry, just bits and pieces.» (Some extent)

- He didn"t go through any of the problems, so if someone didn"t understand, they wouldn"t have a clue of how to solve it. It kind of defeated the purpose - you only left the class understanding what happened if you walked in that way. - the course by itself has no problem! The problem is the way it is presented, specially Sten"s part!» (Poor)
- Really good and interesting subject, but it was hard to learn from the lectures. It"s to many different parts of the course so hard to know on what to focus. » (Fair)
- Good as an overview and very intresting subjects» (Excellent)

24. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- the literature presentation»
- Sten Karlssons lectures should be kept. The literature should be kept, it was very imformative»
- the versatility»
- The course is very good. So the course has to be there!»
- Sten!»
- The chemical teaching»

25. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Se above for comments.»
- Lectures from other people. I felt the biological and Water lectures were not very informative and at times seemed unrelated to the rest of the material The assignments should be clearer i.e. the goals of the assignments and what the student is expected to learn from them»
- more clarity in the topics»
- little more examples during the radiation lectures, they were quite difficult»
- The way is taught and evaluated! The course notes are full of figures without any explanation, this makes it difficult to follow. »
- Perhaps a clearer image of the whole environment, not just bits and pieces. I thought Sten did a good job of linking all of his together, so you see how everything interacted (not necessarily with the others). The water lecture wasn"t very detailed, and the bio lecture just seemed like it was about growing animals for slaughter as opposed to looking at biological resources - I thought we were supposed to stop eating meat and be more ethical!»
- Special time for problems..other than hand the in.»

26. Additional comments

- Is it really the best way to assess learning by seeing how much the student can memorise over the course of the semester? Rather than testing concepts and understanding, memorisation of equations was key. Rote memorisation is not conducive to learning because the knowledge is usually forgotten the following day.»
