- I felt that I didn"t get as much from the lectures as I did from the book, however, I tried to go to most of the exercise classes as Williard explained everything in a very practical and good way that made one know how to use the techniques from the lectures.» (25%)

16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- more exercise sessions, more thorough examples on slides, answers to old exams, answers to assignments»
- Too little time for the last lab in the DIT960 course»
- The answers to exercises in the book were not available. Feedback on assignments could be a bit more clear, but they were ok.»
- Less lengthy proofs, something that I don"t find I will have that much use for.»

- We need solutions for the exercises! See my previous answer (9). A re-occuring overview slide in each lecture would be nice. "Last time we learned this, which is used for this and this. etc. This time we will learn this, which is used for this and this. etc. Both of these things we learned fits into these parts of the course and WHAT it is used for." The haskell parts didn"t give me any insights personally. However, please keep and elaborate on why and what the things we learn are used for within programming, no haskell details necessary.»

- I think that excercises where students work togheter would have helped me study better and from what I"ve heard others agree with me. This instead of individual assignments where you are not allowed to discuss anything at all.»
- The event where we could ask for help. The place we were in was way to small and you rather went home than standing up because of no place to sit and wait for help.»
- It felt that there were a lot of presentation of the lecture in the beginning of each lectures (talking when showing the "cover slide"), also, some of the Haskell examples were a little to big as many of those who had the course hadn"t had contact with the language prior to the course.»

- The course needs proper exercise sessions, the ones where we sit in EL4x or something like that and do exercises by ourselves and the teacher is present to answer any questions. Either that or we need answers for the excercises given on the web page, Doing excercises without knowing whether you are correct or not is very frustrating.»
- The lectures could have been more varied. Many of them felt like it was the same thing over and over again. Not in terms of content but how it was presented. Most of them were just you going on about a subject then showing some code about it. In the start of the course you described an FA with the "a man with a wolf and a sheep wants to cross a river" problem. Perhaps regular languages and context free grammars can have similar examples. Even simple ones would work, something like “,image a context free grammar like a hamburger, you start with a steak and then add stuff onto the steak in an order described by the recipe (the grammar)”,.»

17. Additional comments

- It would be good to add mandatory exercises where you are allowed to work together (in addition to the assignments). These should be fail/pass, to promote learning together.»
- teacher pronounces some key words very strangely. she should also try to explain concepts in a less formal, non-mathematical way, for example explaining what ambiguous means shouldn"t take 5 minutes when a dictionary response suffices.»
- Overall i"m happy with the course, especially the teachers were very competent.»
