After awhile I didn"t attend any lecture since it felt like wasting time. The turtorials got better and better, but it still more useful to try to solve the problems by yourself and ask for help if you don"t understand. » (50%)

- I am having problems to understand the explenations on the lectures. I have learned much through calculations and questions from tutorials. I went to a couple of tutorials but when the tutorial don"t learn more than is written on the answer there is no purpose of going there. Instead I did the calculations on my own and by looking at the right solutions. But when asking Gustavo for help he gave good explenations.» (Some extent)

- From a student perspective it is not a very good idea to inly provide slides. Slides are not meant to be read as stand-alone material, but since there is no compendium in the course students are left to read the slides. An alternative is to use ONE text book from which the course draws its material. In that case many students will buy the book and read, but as it is now with at least four different recommended books that are all used, nobody actually buys those books.» (Some extent)

- The man talking about modern power system protection probably knew a lot, but he tried to squeeze too much into a 90 minute lecture. About one third of the content would have been more appropriate and then the students would have been able to follow.» (Some extent)

- But sometimes it is hard to follow examples in slides. For example slide 9 in lecture 10. There would be better to divide it with numbers maybe, or like a timeline of the events, like in aristo. Nice to have example in the topic also.» (Large extent)

Some of the exercises are in need of revision due to faulty grammar and formulations. The questions on voltage stability could also preferably be altered to go deeper. As it is now you don"t learn very much about voltage stability from the exercises.» (Great extent)

- Instructions could be more clearly written. As it is now I think there are at least 5 different handout on the project, one would be enough, and the instructions could be clearer. Furthermore, doing all the simulations were not very interesting. However, in the end I actually felt that I had learned some things. Therefore: keep the project but re-write the instructions for better clarity and try to motivate why all those simulations have to be run.» (Some extent)
- Could be better laid out. We were unsupervised the first session which was idiotic since the demo file couldn"t be found on the server. By the end of the project the material we had gotten was pretty good but it would have been better if we had gotten all the tasks during the first lecture. There was a really good pdf with what was supposed to be in the report but it would have been a lot better if it had been provided during the first session and not 8 days later. » (Large extent)

Genomsnitt: 3.46 - It would be better to have no more than two students in a group for the DIgSILENT project. In that way everyone would equally contribute to the project report and thus would be able to express clearly all the points in the project report individually. Even more, I think this project report should be graded and be a part of final grade for the course. Otherwise, students pass this project without diligence.

- The course is good but can get better. The main thing to improve (according to me) is to skip the powerpoint teaching, use the blackboard (primarily) and use ONE text book as course literature. Powerpoint presentation are very difficult to learn from and print out slides are not a favourable way of studying a new subject on your own.
A comment on the synchronous generator part also. I would suggest focusing on the general understanding of the SG, e.g. operating principles, main circuit diagram, reactive power capabilities and questions like "why do we have all these inductances?" and "how do SG:s interact with the main grid?". This has been done in the course but in my opinion there was a too large focus on calculating inductance values. I find it to be more important to know what a specific inductance represents and how it is a part of how the generator operates, instead of being able to calculate its exact value.» (Good)

- At first, Gustavo was a bit embarrased, but then he has improved a lot. His tutorials were really pithy.»

- The first part with the synchronous generators was totally unnecessary. Add some more about power system protection instead. »
- The two first week felt totally out of the course! Why did we learn so deeply about the SM??? It didn"t help at all for the rest of the course! Tuan isn"t a very good teacher, in some way he need to undertand better what the students already know and what is new for them and present this material in an intressting pedagogic way!»

22. Additional comments- The course content is intresting this we learned during the last four days before the exam - before that we hadn"t a clew where this course was aiming (which is really sad)...»
- Lastly, I would like to address one issue in the course. During the lectures it is always good when the students ask questions. However, this can actually cross a limit, which has sometimes been the case in this course. In those situations, I believe it is the responsibility of the lecturer to say stop and to clearly state that he/she will gladly answer the question but that there is not time during the lecture and that the answer can instead be given during the break or after the lecture. These common interruptions and delays of the teaching have been the cause of frustration and irritation among many of my fellow students, me included. Therefore, please try to keep the lectures more focused, answer questions but don"t letting it take too much of the common teaching time.
