- As always you to attend lectures and tutorials at the beginning of the course to see if it"s worth spending time on or not. After awhile I didn"t attend any lecture since it felt like wasting time. The turtorials got better and better, but it still more useful to try to solve the problems by yourself and ask for help if you don"t understand. » (50%)
- Sometimes I had a collision with another course where the lectures where mandatory.» (75%)
- The first 5 weeks, all the tutorials and lectures. Then I realized that I don"t get the lecture structure, so I stopped, and started to do the tutorials on my own and went to the scheduled tutorials, that gave me more.» (75%)

- s. It"s is hard to follow the lectures and Tuan is in need of a pedagogic course and how to teach in a helpful way for the students.» (Small extent)
- The PP-presentations have sometimes been understadable to read by yourself. The lectures itself felt like waisting time. The first two week didn"t conect to the rest of the course at all and felt purposeless. » (Small extent) (den här kommentaren har blivit redigerad i efterhand)
- Very good slides but it"s difficult to understand what Tuan says. » (Some extent)
- Not that much. Better structure, the slides are too bad. Too much text, and hard to understand the lectures.» (Some extent)
- I am having problems to understand the explenations on the lectures. I have learned much through calculations and questions from tutorials. I went to a couple of tutorials but when the tutorial don"t learn more than is written on the answer there is no purpose of going there. Instead I did the calculations on my own and by looking at the right solutions. But when asking Gustavo for help he gave good explenations.» (Some extent)

- The only thing I have read is the PP-presentations, sometime understadable and sometimes not.» (Small extent)
- From a student perspective it is not a very good idea to inly provide slides. Slides are not meant to be read as stand-alone material, but since there is no compendium in the course students are left to read the slides. An alternative is to use ONE text book from which the course draws its material. In that case many students will buy the book and read, but as it is now with at least four different recommended books that are all used, nobody actually buys those books.» (Some extent)
- Not the best e-books though... You cant search for words...» (Some extent)

- If the worked-out examples is the tutorial-materials it have been good. I have learned a lot from those problems.» (Large extent)
- But sometimes it is hard to follow examples in slides. For example slide 9 in lecture 10. There would be better to divide it with numbers maybe, or like a timeline of the events, like in aristo. Nice to have example in the topic also.» (Large extent)
- Some lectures at the beginning could be prepared in better way. These are lectures on synchronous machine.» (Large extent)
- Very well done by Gustavo! Some of the exercises are in need of revision due to faulty grammar and formulations. The questions on voltage stability could also preferably be altered to go deeper. As it is now you don"t learn very much about voltage stability from the exercises.» (Great extent)

- Totally waste of time clicking around in this program!!! Would be much better to analyize already done data or maybe do the simulation for only one case.» (Small extent)
- Spending time on putting in data into a computer software isn"t that fun, or exciting...» (Small extent)
- Very bad program which is hard to understand, and the amount of time that we put into this is to much comparing with what we learned. But the things learned was good. But I learned it by writing the report.» (Small extent)
- The information about what to do was unclear and led to frustration.for ecample: The terms unstable and voltage collapse where mixed.» (Some extent)
- Instructions could be more clearly written. As it is now I think there are at least 5 different handout on the project, one would be enough, and the instructions could be clearer. Furthermore, doing all the simulations were not very interesting. However, in the end I actually felt that I had learned some things. Therefore: keep the project but re-write the instructions for better clarity and try to motivate why all those simulations have to be run.» (Some extent)
- Could be better laid out. We were unsupervised the first session which was idiotic since the demo file couldn"t be found on the server. By the end of the project the material we had gotten was pretty good but it would have been better if we had gotten all the tasks during the first lecture. There was a really good pdf with what was supposed to be in the report but it would have been a lot better if it had been provided during the first session and not 8 days later. » (Large extent)

- It would be better to have no more than two students in a group for the DIgSILENT project. In that way everyone would equally contribute to the project report and thus would be able to express clearly all the points in the project report individually. Even more, I think this project report should be graded and be a part of final grade for the course. Otherwise, students pass this project without diligence. Everyone must be assessed not only for formula knowledge but also for ability to communicate and express oneself, thus proving his expertise in a field of knowledge.» (Rather poorly)

- The topic is very intressting, but I have a hard time following at lectures. More clearer of differences between for example with/without supplemental control» (Adequate)
- I wish we had gone more in detail on stability problems and simulations regarding them.» (Adequate)
- It"s hard to understand what Tuan says. » (Good)
- The course is good but can get better. The main thing to improve (according to me) is to skip the powerpoint teaching, use the blackboard (primarily) and use ONE text book as course literature. Powerpoint presentation are very difficult to learn from and print out slides are not a favourable way of studying a new subject on your own. A comment on the synchronous generator part also. I would suggest focusing on the general understanding of the SG, e.g. operating principles, main circuit diagram, reactive power capabilities and questions like "why do we have all these inductances?" and "how do SG:s interact with the main grid?". This has been done in the course but in my opinion there was a too large focus on calculating inductance values. I find it to be more important to know what a specific inductance represents and how it is a part of how the generator operates, instead of being able to calculate its exact value.» (Good)
- The course is both important and interesting. However this quarter has been very heavy and it was often hard to give this course the amount of studying it deserves. » (Good)

20. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The lab.»
- The laboration was good. Gustavo is really helpful and good to explain things.»
- The topics of the course (the topics are interesting and relevant as far as I can see). ARISTO. Gustavo as the exercise leader.»
- The ARISTO demonstration and the laboratory work. »
- Project lab»
- Lecture slides are very good.»
- Aristo & practical laboratory.»
- At first, Gustavo was a bit embarrased, but then he has improved a lot. His tutorials were really pithy.»
- Labs, project, lectures and tutorials were good enough to form a backbone of the course.»
- Practical examples»
- The course included many activities (lectures, tutorials, lab, project, demonstration, guest lecture) which all contributed more or less to the students" knowledge. Everyone was helpful and willing to answer questions. »
- digisilent project»
- All arrangement»

21. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- The lectures, some pedagogic corses for Mr. tuan.»
- The first part with the synchronous generators was totally unnecessary. Add some more about power system protection instead. »
- The two first week felt totally out of the course! Why did we learn so deeply about the SM??? It didn"t help at all for the rest of the course! Tuan isn"t a very good teacher, in some way he need to undertand better what the students already know and what is new for them and present this material in an intressting pedagogic way!»
- The powerpoints, please see comment on question 19.»
- The project, that was only time consuming.»
- Tutorials and lecture»
- Synchronous machine lectures were vey bad. It seems like the lecturer understands but does not know how to explain the material. It was a real mess on the blackboard. Notes were unstructured. Cant plan his time. Always ran out of time.»
- The first two lectures about synchronous machine I did not understand the purpose of this and why this is needed in the course. The third lecture about limits I understood first when writing the report to computer project and voltage stability, Put this lecture there instead? »
- Peiyaen part was unclear! I couldn"t understand Tuan this time.»
- Two bullets: - project must be graded as a part of final grade, - synchronous machine lectures have to be improved.»
- It would be nice to base both power system analysis and operation on one book.»
- the teacher, I got zero knowledge from him but good knowledge from handouts, No points of going to class since he reads notes only> »
- Maybe some more simulations (ex. Matlab) exercise and more DigSilent guidance.»
- » (den här kommentaren har blivit redigerad i efterhand)

22. Additional comments

- The course content is intresting this we learned during the last four days before the exam - before that we hadn"t a clew where this course was aiming (which is really sad)...»
- Lastly, I would like to address one issue in the course. During the lectures it is always good when the students ask questions. However, this can actually cross a limit, which has sometimes been the case in this course. In those situations, I believe it is the responsibility of the lecturer to say stop and to clearly state that he/she will gladly answer the question but that there is not time during the lecture and that the answer can instead be given during the break or after the lecture. These common interruptions and delays of the teaching have been the cause of frustration and irritation among many of my fellow students, me included. Therefore, please try to keep the lectures more focused, answer questions but don"t letting it take too much of the common teaching time. Nonetheless, in general I think this is a good course!»
- Tutorials were pretty interesting and well explained.»
- Course of good value.»
