- In my opinion, the examination was more about learning everything and having a good memory than about understanding and explaning something. I think it could be good to change to way of examination. For instance, in my other course, we had 3 quizzes during the period and each of them were related to about 4 lectures. It was better than to learn everything at the same time and enables to ask deeper questions. » (To some extent)

9. Do you think the presentation added to you learning and is an important aspect of the course?

- Very much so. Both the fact that we all got to present our subjects in front of a group and also the fact that it was very interesting to listen to all of the other groups and their different approaches to the subjects.»

- Yes I think it was really useful to make a presentation about a topic that you don´,t know yet. However, 20 minutes presentations seem too long, it is really hard to be concentrated and to listen to everyone during the whole afternoon. »

10. Do you think the report writing added to your learning and is an important aspect of the course?

- This was also interesting as it gave a deeper understanding to the topic that we got to choose.»
- Yes, it was a good way of learning but as far as I know it didn"t give any credits to the grading which was a pity.»

- I didn"t really understand the point about writing this kind of report. The presentation wasn"t even related to it. We just gathered some informations from internet or books and put everything together...»

- I like the fact that the topic was quite large, however, I would have prefered to have the choice of the topic (i am not that interested in cutting tool materials). Maybe a short list of different topics could be done. »
- The report was also a good aspect of the course in the sense that it has given more culture and learning regarding tools materials that i wouldn"t have gained if the report was not part of the course...»

- Yes, very much. It tested my writting skills for scientific articles and its length and format really resambled real papers. However time could be spent to evaluate papers during classes, receive guidelines from the teacher.»

- I can not complain about the lack of initiative/energy from lecturer but most of my questions were outside lecturer"s field of knowledge/research.» (Rather good)

17. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- What do you think about divided the final exam into smaller exams over the whole study period? On one of my other courses, we had 3 quizzes over the lectures so we had to learn regularly. It"s less stressful, more convenient and useful»

- final examination: to learn everything by heart => it is too scholar and not professionnal»
- Could be more topics to study. I"ve recently heard about metamaterials (left-handed materials) not sure it"s in the topic ? Would be worth interest though. The examination could be more about gemeral principle, I think it was a bit too much about details.»
- More connection to nanotechnology could be added. Some lectures could be changed or modified (ex.aluminum alloys) to present course goals more clearly.»
- The part about the "surface topography" can be removed or changed. It was a complete mass of unnecessary infos.»
