- From what I can tell of previous exams, it looks reasonable.» (I don"t know/have not been examined yet)

- The last two questions were difficult and not reasonable. It is not fair to put that many points on that two questions. The way of propagating points on the other questions were good but it was not reasonable at all in the last two questions. Specially the last question because it was from the homework assignment and it is not fair to ask this question specially from the students that are taking the re-exam. They have done the assignment long time ago so they cannot do that like the others can.» (To some extent)

- I don"t like the teacher very mucht, his voice goes up and down. And he sems to get excitet or something when some one asks a question, he needs to calm down i think.» (To some extent)

- Everything except the correcting of the assignments was good. Usually you got a reply a few days before the final deadline, which in effect made it possible to resubmit only once, even though you had 2 weeks between first and final deadline.» (Rather well)

- not good to have to use a chalmers linux computer to create the assignment, I had to go to school only because of that one day, and I was ill:(. Couldn"t it be an web application instead?:)» (Rather well)

- No time where you can do problems and ask questions about them.» (Very poor)
- sometimes when someone asks a question the teacher responds in a way that the student is rather stupid that has asked a question (because he or she doesn"t understand some parts) » (Rather poor)

- Perhaps a little too good, as there were one student in particular that asked serveral questions every lecture. Most of his questions were not, in my oppinion, of general interest, since he most of the time just didn"t understand what had just been explained. Perhaps in the future such question, comming from one and same student every lecture, could be given a little less attention.» (Very good)

- Did all the assignments including the programming assignment myself. After some confusion about lab partners I got a new lab partner, but he chose to finish the assignment without me, he choosing a programming language I didn"t prefer to use. I finished this assignment myself instead. » (Rather poorly)
- Rather unclear what you mean by cooperation in this context but the cooperation between me and my labpartner, the only cooperation I sought, worked very well.» (Very well)

- This study period has been too hectic for me in order to fully appreciate and reflect over the course contents to the extent I would like to. The weekly assignments have a contributed somewhat to this. I would prefer two larger projects instead. And either an exam or assignments, not both. The other course I"m taking has a similar layout with assignments and projects (but higher work load). However, the assignments are graded and added to the final exam mark (most people get enough point to pass the course without taking the exam).» (Good)

13. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Correct the assignments a lot quicker, should not take a week and a half to get a response.»
- Maybe lock the door 10 minutes after the beginning of each lecture. Latecomers were very annoying.»
- Students that arrives late at the lecture were very anoying this years (worst in my experience of courses). Even though the students are free to come and go as they pleasures, maybe a hint from the lecturer could help the other ones that actually tries to follow the lecture.»

- The last lecture should be omitted.»
- It was a pity that all lectures were at the same times as the lectures in the Advanced Algorithms course. It meant that I did not get to experience Björn as much as I wanted.»
- I though assignment 2 was the hardest one, and I couldn"t really answer it on the exam either, even though I solved it as a Home assignment. The first home assignment is something you can get stuck on for too long time, it was fun, but some modification to it would probably be good.»

- LFSR aren"t used a lot in practice afaik, seems like all you need to know is that when used as stream ciphers they"re vulnerable to a known plaintext attack»
- The only thing I found disturbing was one of the students that repeatedly asked questions that had already been answered. I guess Björn could talk to these students separatly.»
- I think the examination should be replaced by a project. Cryptography is too much of an interesting subject to be "reduced" to an examination - a project would be much more interesting and useful.»

14. Additional comments

- Well, I think the course is way too basic, and it feels like we skim through most material without getting into any real depth. I realise cryptograpy is huge and getting into a lot of algorithms and proofs would make it both a larger, more difficult course with more prerequisites, but still I think it could be worth it. Now it almost has the impression of popular science - it"s like Simon Singh"s book deluxe.»

Many people hold courses and you can really see/hear that they have been a teacher for too many years, with von Sydow it still seems like it is the first time he does it, he seems to have fun and really wants us to learn something.
