Connection between TA1 and TA2

An aim with the "Technical Acoustics block" is that TA1 should provide the theoretical basis needed to solve the practical problems in TA2. In this way they are connected and should work as a unity.

- BEM and FEM was new for me. A good understanding of the models was not a must for solving practical problems since they were implimented in "black box"-ish sofware. I think that was negative.» (The connection between the courses was not clear)

- BEM-lab was way to difficult, complex and therefor needs more experienced counseling (sorry Julia..)» (Adequate)

- The lecture about vibration isolation was too advanced. From my point of view, a lecture about the basis of vibration isolation is needed before getting into the vibration isolation of an engine of a car.» (Some extent)

- Only the BEM-Lab part from what I can remember. All efforts on this task was put to make the Comsol/BEMlab program to work. All this work would probably be better to put on learning the fundamentals of BEM instead.» (There is a need for improvement / please comment)

- In TA1, there is quite a difference between i.e Jonas and the others when in comes to grading criterions.» (Adequate)

- It was very high, however only about half the workload compared to RAC. So it´,s hard to complain.» (High)

Summarizing questions

21. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The whole idea of having a simulated "real life problem" to solve was the best part of the course.»
- I love the way of working and giving the students so much "own work"»

22. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- The BEM task was very messy to say the least. I did not enjoy it, I did not find it very interesting because of the scripts(which I never fully understood)- it felt like working with a black box and the GUI and usability should be easier to handle.»
- Availability of more equipment and other help (tooling etc) to build and test various redesign ideas is definitely needed. While the theoretical assessment was great, it would have been nicer to have more time and more resources to try out the redesign ideas which were the main focus of this course. This year not much was made available to implement and use our redesign idea.»
- Make RAC1 and RAC2 of the existing RAC-course.»
- I would include in the redesign part the real easiest cases we are going to find in real life and then if there is more time get in deeper problems. I would add something that help us to understand how the basic sources work and generate noise (the physic behind the noise and vibration generation of an engine, compressor, etc.).»

23. Additional comments

- The lack of combining literature in the courses (TA1 and TA2). I find that the handout-system of course lit. is bad and it makes the whole course seem less professional. Even if you only have it in compendium form, it would be much better.»
- I (and at least some others) had problems getting the software to work so I committed a lot of time on that instead of trying to understand the physics and come up with good ideas. Better software and/or more preparation and help would be great.»
