- Since a large portion of the lectures overlapped those in another course (althogh at the time of course selection, it was promised that they would not!) it was close to impossible to attend the majority of the lectures. However, I attended the exercises.» (50%)
- Very bad scheduling since this course and the TEK320 course both were lectured at Wednesdays before noon. I know that many of us students attended both these courses.» (75%)
- I wanted to attend more classes but unfortunately they clashed with the classes in the course ICT Policy and Economics.» (75%)

- "The course puts particular emphasis on how companies use these strategically important assets to achieve a competitive advantage." That part I don"t believe was included as much in the exam....» (To some extent)
- The case seemed completely unrelated to the remainder of the course and we had 0 help from any of the lectures for the case, bare the 2-5 min introduction. The exam was OK to reflect Lars classes but not the other"s.» (To some extent)

- Lars was the only real informative teacher.» (Small extent)
- Too many different lecturers, difficult to get an overview of the course. » (Small extent)
- To be honest the teaching has been extremely important for my learning since I hardly opened the Levin-book and the legal texts did not help in understanding course content.» (Large extent)

7. To what extent has the course literature and other material been of help for your learning?

16 svarande

Small extent»3 18%
Some extent»6 37%

- Went through the course without the book, and that was never a problem.» (Small extent)
- Reading the course literature was really hard.(English one)» (Some extent)
- The compendium with legal documents was of great use. As for the Levin-book, in my opinion, having it as course literature is almost ridiculous given that it is of almost no use for the examination. We do attend courses to learn for life, but if the book is not necessary to pass or even excel on the exam I cannot see how it would be crucial in learning the course content. The lack of reference to the Levin book in the lectures and excercises accompanied by the fact that no readings were suggested to specific lectures makes it even more obvious how superfluos it is. Also, having two different books, one for international and one for Swedish students - do we not study the same law? If we are to study Swedish law, then let us do so. If we are to study international law, then let us do so.» (Some extent)
- The book annd the compendium was good.» (Large extent)

8. How well did the course administration, web page, handouts etc work?

- It took one week until relevant information was uploaded. Always uncertain wether we started sharp or quarter past. Lecturers often showed up late.» (Very badly)
- Information was always late. Lecture slides were very late, I think that some of them were uploaded only a couple of days before the exam. I am really disappointed when it comes to course administration in this course!» (Very badly)
- Early on we emailed about several issues to several teachers/lecturers, who didn"t even bother to answer. In addition the teachers were late for almost every class, up to 25 min of the first hour, something I"ve never experienced throughout all Chalmers courses. Show"s lack of interest.» (Very badly)
- -Desirable to have hand-outs uploaded before class, not two weeks after...» (Very badly)
- Information was supplied very late and when you e-mail questions you didn"t get any answer (but sometime an answer was posted on the study portal).» (Very badly)
- Information was often not provided until asked for. The fact that there are major flaws in the course syllabus is a bit embarrassing. So is the fact that parts of the course literature was missing due to copyright issues. Slides and materials for exercises were often uploaded late. Lecturers were often late and at the wrong place. Academic quarter ot not? At Chalmers, not.» (Very badly)

- OK in class, not so much otherwise.» (Rather good)
- On the few occasions that I asked questions in class, teachers were more than willing to answer. As for more practical matters, such as missing literature and so on, emails were ususally answered rather quickly.» (Rather good)

- I think that some had a hard time finding motivation when it comes to reading patents. In addition, because the project was so vaguely specified I think that some had a hard time imagining that their work would actually pay off.» (Rather poorly)
- Had two-three group members for the project that didn"t pull much weight... the other half did however do well.» (Rather well)

- This will be a bit difficult to answer before knowing the grading of the patent-search case. One of the groups that presented appeared to have put in quite a lot more effort than most other groups. If their level was the one expected, then the workload was far too high given that the patent project only constituted 20 percent of the examination. If not, then I feel it was adequate.» (Adequate)

12. How was the total workload this study period?

13. What is your general impression of the course?

16 svarande

Poor»4 25%
Fair»2 12%
Adequate»0 0%
Good»10 62%
Excellent»0 0%

Genomsnitt: 3

- The lecturers having no idea what other lectures had said, all were indepent of eachother. Nearly every lecturer was late for classes. Emails were not answered when requesting help. The case was WAY too large for 20% credits. Generally a poor impression.» (Poor)
- You should go through the different intellectual property areas more deeply. It feels like a course which aim is to catch the students interest, not to really learn anything.» (Poor)
- A course introduction explaining how the diferent parts of the course fit together and the thought behind exercises etc would really have helped.» (Fair)
- I learnt a lot thanks to the lectures and the exercises, but it came with heaps of frustration and poor course management. I expected to learn more about strategic considerations of IPRs, not just having the focus on IPR from the entrepreneurial point of view that was the case in the course.» (Fair)
- Interesting but administartion » (Good)
- Gave a good general introduction to IPR. » (Good)

14. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The excercises. Could be twice as many. It was here you learned most.»
- The exercises was a relly good part, especially when divided into groups discussing spepcifc questions...»
- Lectures and exercises were really good. I liked the content of the course, it felt relevant!»
- Lars Andersson»
- the exercises»
- Lars lectures. Redo the rest.»
- exercises»
- The book»
- Mattias Klang! Boo Edgar! »

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Faster and better information.»
- Mor information about how to search for patents»
- The case was quite fuzzy, but this was said to be intentional, it was hard to know where to start and what was allowed/intended.»
- Something has to be done to the project! Why were there no consultation. An early consultation would reslly save the students a lot of time!»
- Funnier case»
- clearer guidelines about the project as it is difficult when group participants interpret the task differently»
- Everything but Lars lectures. Definately change the case to reflect what the remainder of the course is about.»
- task for case. The different groups should have different tasks...»
- I had problem to find partner. I think grouping could be compulsory. »
- The number of guest lectures»
- Coordinate scheduling better with the other recommended elective courses. »
- More guidance of how to find relevant information in patent applications and how to select search criteria.»
- Better course administration.»
- The course literature. Take the time to match reading material to the lectures, that will help us students learn so much more. When missing out on a lecture, we will also be able to catch up on its content. Much better management of the course, publish material for exercises at least three days before the exercise if you expect us to prepare for it. A correct syllabus. Opportunities for consultation in the patent case. We were left with one hour of theory lecture for 20 percent of the course examination. Not ok. If it is said that something is mandatory, then it should BE mandatory. Not just mandatory sometimes, depending on the mood of the teacher in question. As a student, you make adjustments and perhaps forsake other lectures to be able to attend the mandatory ones. »
- course administration and communication(upload of slides etc.)»

16. Additional comments

- Better luck next year.»
- Thanks!»
- I think the course constituted a good complement to Granstrands course the previous period which focused more on the business impacts from especially patents. The major overlap was with Tom Ewings part in Granstrands course.»
- The patent case was a big black hole, it was difficult to know what was expected of you and if you were heading in the right direction. Also, being left with the feeling that 20 percent of your grade depended on a handful number of slides is not a very pleasant experience, nor does it give the image of a course team that have the energy or time to actually look at what the students have been doing. Offer consultation and don"t alter the deliverables as you go along.»
