What should definitely be preserved to next year?- the outline of the course schedule»- Usage of money, coporation wit companies, the interracting group activities.» - requiremnt to build a prototype» - Its good with well-defined deadlines.» - the project!» - group more balance» - Offering some more references. allocating much more available time for using workshop.» 15. What should definitely be changed to next year?- the related literature and the connection between it and the development process setting project management as a preceding course and mandating the use of a related software such as MSP»- No litterature seminar. Fix so no time are taken from the other courses before it starts. As it did before christmas, it was unclear.» - remove the literature assignment, completely irrelevant and distracting. certainly remove the need to work with another group to complete it, far too difficult to organise that was necessary» - 1) Remove the litterature seminar assignment completely!! We spent a lot of work and didn"t learn anything that we could use in our work. The worst thing was that it took so much work from the project. Our company complained that we was dealyed but this was due to this assignment. 2)Be sure that Smarteam works from the beginning. It delayed our work. 3)Invite more people to the exhibition. It felt stupid to spend 30000 on exhibition material when only our classmates saw our work 4) Divide the groups better. We were only five (practically four) people in our group compared to 7 in the others.» - the project coordinator wasn"t prepared for this course.» - course organize method » - Harder demands for both language and that the student must have done a similar project before.» - Literature seminar should be concentrated on more relevant subjects deal with issues and problems of the project concepts like design, concept generation, evaluation, etc.» 16. Additional comments- no project management and organization was taught, the meeting with the psychologist was just one aspect»- it might be the matter of preference but I personally think the projects should not be the pure research projects demanding extensive scientific literature reviews. I think more practical projects with known scope and derivative improvements will be more useful for students.» The project17. What is your over-all opinion about the project course and that it is based on an assignment from an industrial company?- solving a real industry problem is a good challenge, the type of the projects can become more consistent and similar»- It is good to get in tuch with the work market. But the commitment from the companies has to grow, since they have some requirments that should be fulfilled.» - good, nice to have some foundation from which to develop our work» - Really inspiring to work with a real product with real companies.» - it was perfect, we learned a lot during this project.» - Very good» - it is good to know how an development process going on» - It works great» 18. What do you think about the course introduction including the project presentation and project selection process?- It was ok, but you know to little about the project and its way to make a good selection. Now afterwards you might have made a diferent selection.»- did not really witness this, only arrived in goteborg after» - It was ok.» - it was good. no more comments.» - Ok» - better arrange a discussion after the presention » - Well done» 19. Did the project presentation and project memo provide relevant and useful information for project initiation?- fairly»- The info was to much on the wrong time, with to little time to think it over. Info needs to be sent out more than 2 weeks before you have to make a selection.» - yes» - Yes, I think so.» - yes» - To some extent» - kind of ,but not so clear» - Yes, in some extent» 20. How did you experience the formation of the project team?- a small group event like camping out or cooking can be a good start to break some barriers however the groups were not allowed to use the budget for such activities, it can be even organized by the supervisors»- ok» - i didnt» - ?» - it was good, we were lucky to have a balanced team with same aims and eagerness but it was good.» - Good» - a surprise» - It resulted in a homogeneous group according to the functionality of our group. » 21. What do you think about your project team and how the team-work has functioned during the project?- the team members were individually good and worked well along the project however the supervisors can help bering more collaboration among members by initiating events»- ok» - worked well, especially in the prototype build which was a successful exercise in individual"s ideas and manufacturing efforts adding to the whole» - We had no formal leader and i think it worked fine. We though had a problem with one of our team members who didn"t do anything.» - we were perfect! our team keep the stamina during the whole project and we were really supportive to each other.» - Very good» - well» - Well organized, homogeneous considering a combination of different backgrounds » 22. How did you experience the situation with the ERASMUS student coming in to the project during the first part before Christmas?- we had no Erasmus students in our project»- It was not good. but can maybe be the same and improved.» - i was an erasmus student, found it welcoming and productive» - We didnt get any» - it wasn"t good. usually they are not interested in hard working as master students do.» - Not that good» - not so much contack» - I didn"t find them ambitious enough » 23. Has the team-building exercise with the psychologist been useful?- not that much, it was one session with no feedback»- yes. but it was given to late, it should have been in the begining of the project. (januar/februar)» - no, psychology is a pointless study- generally trips to other countries for research (we went to brussels motor show) helped to bond group» - Yes, it was interesting at least.» - yes, pretty much!» - Not really» - ja» - Not so much, it should be done earlier» 24. What do you think about the contents of your project in terms of complexity, difficulty and suitability for this course?- it was rather fair but with what the industry contact had in mind it meant a breakthrough concept which needed more competence in certain areas that could only be determined after the project passed its concept selection stage»- Varying betwene the groupes. Hard to make something complex when you dont have so much experiance and knowledge of the product itself. » - think it was a correct level» - Maybe a bit to complex. We felt that we didn"t have enough prior knowledge. A electrical engineer had been useful in our project.» - I think, our project was more complex and difficult than most of the others. it needs much more work.» - Pretty good» - diffulty» - Not complex but difficult because of time pressure. Extremely suitable considering the learning approaches.» 25. To what extent have you read and made use the course book by Ulrich and Eppinger in the project work?- very little personally»- Not read at al. No good information of what, why, how it should be used. Could have a groupe activity for discussing the books topics.» - absolutely none, found better preparation in my previous studies at home university- Queens Belfast product design course, and earlier project experience» - Not a single word.» - not at all!» - not much» - not so much ,more technical detail» 26. How has the interaction with your company and your industrial contact person worked out?- the contact person was very helpful and demanding»- Fairly ok. The product specification given and the help provided was not fair. This since they asked for more then they could provide in help. » - satisfactory, although felt we had to push and force the help otherwise it would not be forthcoming» - Very well! We met them every week.» - our interaction with the company wasn"t good because we had to remain invisible! but our contact person was perfect and covered most of the difficulties very good.» - ok» - meeting periodically » 27. How has the interaction with your academic supervisor worked out?- there were rather formal meetings»- fairly ok. Not commited enough. Not commited with the requirments and the task.» - poorly, our supervisor had very little contact with us» - Well» - it was good in the beginning but he left Chalmers in the SP4 so we were left on our own most of the time. It was hard not having him especially during the presentations, we faced most of the hard questions from other group supervisors!» - Ok» - meeting periodically » 28. To what extent have you reached the project goals you aimed at?- I expected highlighting more relation between the development process and the literature and the passed courses»- 60%» - successfully» - Not really, but also the expected results from our company changed a bit during the project.» - 100%!!! I personally surprised by this project achievements. I think our company will be surprised as well!» - ok» - near the end » 29. Has your company got what they wanted?- they expected a fully functional prototype but due to saftey reasons only a mock up was handed»- Maybe. The prototype is not as good as we want it to be. Not 100% confident witht the choosen concept.» - i believe so, although the brief was somewhat open ended» - Yes, they will continue with our concept» - regarding our company contact person, they have.» - suppose soo» - could be» 30. To what extent are your personal expectations fulfilled?- I thought the project itself was less important than monitoring and studying the development process itself, in that case not much of my expectations were fulfilled»- 70%. We did not reach the goal that i wanted.» - yes, fun times» - I expected that we would have done a little bit more then we did, but it was ok.» - I"m satisfied pretty much.» - allmost» - middle» 31. Any other comments about the project, its contents and the work process?- supervisors can have a more organizing role, they can demand Gantt charts and updates periodically rather than just having a formal meeting where the discussions are mostly based on intuition»- -» - no» - Read question no 14 carefully!» - not any remains.» - the process can be introduced from start of program» The literature assignment32. What do you think about the usefulness of having this kind of exercise linked to the project work?- the assignment was completely detached from the whole project, the groups could relate any issue to their own projects implicitly»- no use.» - useless, more of a distract» - Completely useless» - it wasn"t useful at all. » - Good idea, but the project became the maine fucus» - the work load is a little high» 33. In what way do you feel that the three selected subjects are interesting and useful both for you personally and for the project work?- are concerning the master we have choosen.»- subjects were rather obvious and common sense anyway» - Systems engineering was useless for a project in this size. Maybe if your developing a new car or an airplane it could be interesting.» - they were interesting subjects but not suitable for literature assignment.» - don"t know» - lean production» 34. Do you think that it is reasonable that an MSc in Product Development should be familiar with 3-4 common text books within the field?- sure it is, what difference does it make to be a MSc other than more extensive command on the literature in a few specific fields»- 2-3 maybe. But put it in a course of it own.» - no, certaintly not reasonable to write an entire report based on, in our case, 3 text books» - Yes, but it should be done in another way, not in the project development course.» - yes, I think so.» - definitely» - it sounds reasonable» 35. Has the literature assignment made it possible for you to gain this familiarity?- to some extent»- No. since you cant have aroud 12 people working on a book, writing a report and making a presentation.» - no» - No» - no, not at all.» - not really» - ja, got some basic idea about that» 36. Had you preferred to get this familiarity in some other way –, if so, in what way?- there sould have been more books to work on for different groups»- separate course. » - first hand experience» - Maybe in another mandatory course. Everything is better than this.» - some lectures addressing them would be much more useful.» - maybe cut of a part of the project and have a part with a small exam instead.» - by self reading during free time» 37. Any other comments about the literature assignment?- -»- having to work with other groups was an unnessary complication and burden to organise- free time that both could work together was almost impossible» - Very stupid with such big groups (12 persons!!). Much of the work was to organize everything. And only one book per group!» - vast amount of work, small period of time, and a lot of other interesting jobs to do, will definitely result in a low quality outcome and learning process! this was the case for literature seminars.» - give more time»
