Genomsnitt: 2.5

- The problem is the course is extremely broad, it would be nice with some guidance on how deep to go on each subject.» (The goals give some guidance, but could be clearer)

4. Are the goals reasonable considering your background and the number of credits?

Answer this this question and the succeeding one, only if you do know the course goals.

Genomsnitt: 2.05

- But make sure all students have taken all the math courses needed, so there wont be any mess with that..» (Yes, the goals seem reasonable)

5. Did the examination assess whether you have reached the goals?

To some extent»4 18%
Yes, definitely»8 36%
I don"t know/have not been examined yet»10 45%

Genomsnitt: 3.27

- the exam was very theoretical» (To some extent)
- There really should be more practice/previous exams available for study. It would be particularly nice if they included solutions.» (I don"t know/have not been examined yet)

- I"ve learnt most things from the tutorials, but the lectures have been interesting (most of the time :-) ).» (Some extent)
- I couldn"t attend most of it so. The ones I went to was helpful though.» (Some extent)
- Good lectures and very good slides to use for reading.» (Large extent)
- Ulf is one of the best teachers at Chalmers. Perfectly done. The course assistans were not as good.» (Large extent)
- The lectures were really great.» (Great extent)
- One of the best teachers I have ever had.» (Great extent)

7. What is your impression of the tutorials?

They contributed to the course with practical experience.»22 78%
They were too hard and/or confusing.»2 7%
I did not do the tutorials (but the project).»2 7%

Genomsnitt: 2.14

- I really liked the setup with tutorials» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- Very good, it was fun to look at OpenGL!» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- The first ones where a bit to easy, a solution could be to make the students think more and program a bit on their own instead of just follow instructions. Great practical summery though!» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- However, the difficulty step between the first tutorials and the project was a bit sudden.» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- I think it was good to first have tutorials where all instructions were given, and then have a large one where one had to understand everything to make it work. Good way to ensure understanding.» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- The tutorials, or in this case example sheets, where in no way too difficult to ask us about. However, many of the questions demanded that questions from the past would have to be solved, which basically meant that if you couldn"t solve some of the early questions it would become about impossible to get it right with the questions further on.» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- There should be some obligatory questions to answer with each tutorial as well.» (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- Good with shader programming and much of the framework api-calls around it set up for you. Very nice! » (They contributed to the course with practical experience.)
- it was hard to get a real experience of programming when all you did was copy and paste the code» (They were too hard and/or confusing.)
- I read the tutorials and I personally think that it"s a bit too much just copy paste OpenGL code. Personally I think that a better option could be to provide a simple wrapper for the students to use and then basically just give instructions on how to use it. That way you can focus on the algorithm and not on the openGL code.» (I did not do the tutorials (but the project).)
- I did the tutorials 2 years ago and I was told they had been redesigned. I didn"t do any of it this year since I had passed this part of the course anyway.» (I did not do the tutorials (but the project).)

- The book seems to go much deeper than what"s required.» (Small extent)
- I have not read very much from it, but I think I will have a look at it before the exam.» (Small extent)
- Didn"t read much at all in the course book but rather used the slides + google & wikipedia» (Small extent)
- Great book, but it"s not really necessary since the lectures, slides and tutorials are so good.» (Some extent)
- I exclusively used online material instead of the course book.» (Some extent)
- The slides were very good, but the book was almost unnecessary. I looked up a few things during the course, but it feels like a waste of money unless i continue in this field.» (Some extent)
- Good book, but the slides were really good, the book could be used to look up specific details though.» (Some extent)
- Good book, very thick, though.» (Large extent)

Genomsnitt: 3.57

- The lab assistants were not available enough. There should"ve been more of them» (Rather poor)
- The course assistants seemed to help people in a total random order. At one time it took three hours to get some help, which was probably because it was a deadline day. A list where you write your name to be in the queue would be good.» (Rather good)
- Great course assistants and it was easy to get help during lectures as well.» (Very good)
- It is hard to ask questions on complex programming tasks like the tutorial, since the assistants could not really dig into your code.. other than that: really good,.» (Very good)

Summarizing questions

16. What is your general impression of the course?

28 svarande

Poor»0 0%
Fair»0 0%
Adequate»4 14%
Good»13 46%
Excellent»11 39%

Genomsnitt: 4.25

- Interesting course.» (Good)
- Very educational and useful.» (Good)
- Excellent teaching, very stressy ending. Problem was if you had a lecture in the other course the same day you"d have alot to read to be able to remember the double lectures.» (Good)
- Very ambitious teaching. This could easily be seen since many of the friday sessions were held over the alotted time and almost everyone stayed until the end (even if it was as much as 30 minutes). Only a few left and I"m guessing this was due to the fact that they had to be somewhere or do something.» (Good)
- Great! Very good lectures and the most interesting course I"ve attended so far!» (Excellent)
- Best course I"ve taken so far.» (Excellent)
- On par with Network Security as the best course taken on Chalmers.» (Excellent)

17. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The tutorials»
- The nice focus on an overview of techniques in 3D graphics: polygon-rasterization and ray tracing towards global illumination.»
- The tutorials»
- The assistants and lecturer are good, so are the tutorials.»
- No opinion.»
- Everything! Teacher, project and tutorials!»
- the lectures and the project»
- The tutorials.»
- The option to do a custom project instead of the tutorials.»
- Everything, sort of»
- good lectures»
- The superb teacher and the tutorials. *thumb up*»
- The turorials where very helpfull»

18. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Curves and surfaces seem like essential to CG, but the treatment is a bit of an "outsider". The cgfx-lab is nice to do, but feels more like an add-on when the other labs were coherent.»
- Some of the lectures were a bit too long. Like when Uffe talked until 15:30 when he was supposed to end the lecture at 15:00»
- Maybe do some harder tutorials in the beginning and middle of the course, thus making the last one less hard.»
- MORE practice exams (including solutions)! This can not be emphasized enough.»
- I know you had to convert the tutorials to OpenGL 3, next year you should start with the tutorials week 1 so theres more time for the project. Not that there wasn"t enough time but so you can add more to it»
- It would be good if the extra time needed during lectures could be found by taking a shorter (or none at all) break and be able to finish in time. It was a hassle when I had another lecture straight after the graphics lectures.»
- the exam, it was very theoretical»
- The length of the lectures, they should be within the time limits.»
- Skip the basic math explanations on the black board. Matrix multiplication and trigonometry has to be considered basic knowledge of anyone that wants to call themselves engineering students... »
- typos in the lecture slides»
- Might need to put in an extra lecture, perhaps also some basic math or refer to a good source covering the math knowledge needed. This page is attractive: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/2151/math3d.html»
- More opengl so we get a practical feel for the subject. Better explained opengl.»
- If found the coursebook a bit hard to read, is there any more practically focused course books?»

19. Additional comments

- I think that the lectures where interesting and rewarding.»
- Ulf: Nice to hear all necessary (and possibly unnecessary :)) details and anecdotes you squeeze in during the lectures!»
- There really needs to be more previous/practice exams available, with solutions included.»
- Loved the course»
- lectures are very often extended to be more than two hours. Arrange another lecture slot would be desirable.»
