- Maskinare från början.» (Yes, absolutely)
- Difficult when it get to much chemistry.» (In part, but I struggled in places)
- I have been into another field of study earlier (biotechnology) earlier so I had no knowledge at all about energy technology, but this was something I knew when I chose the course. I also think it was possible to follow the course without preknowledge, even though everything was new for me.» (In part, but I struggled in places)
- Some chemistry was hard due to my mechanical engineering bankground. » (In part, but I struggled in places)

To some extent»27 46%
Yes, definitely»29 50%
I don"t know, I have not been examined yet»2 3%

Genomsnitt: 2.56

- haven´,t seen them» (?)
- The exam wsa abit trikier than the tasks within the course material.» (To some extent)
- But you cant test every part» (To some extent)
- The letures focuses very little on the exam, however the exam is the greater part of the course. The exam is what gives you credits here then it would be naturally to put more focus on how to beat the exam. In my opinion the exam model is obsolete due to this. The project execises are a more modern way to learn, and the knowledge gained from them lasts longer and are of more importance and deeper. Projects also improves a students presentation abilities. They are also much more real work oriented then the exam model. Project leaves room for reflection and discussion, it yields a higher level of communication between student and teacher. » (To some extent)
- It seemed that the exam addressed topics that were not covered in the coarse. Otherwise, the exam required a strong knowledge of the course material.» (To some extent)
- But it"s very difficult when one don"t have calculation materials to get through. It would also help to have a number of theroretical questions that one could have to study before the exam. In the course Heat transfer we got lots of questions to study on.» (Yes, definitely)
- I think most of the examination is covered in the project. I suggest no examination but a bigger last project.» (Yes, definitely)
- The exam was not too actually too hard, but long. Due to the scope of some of the questions there was not time for correcting errors. All in all I found the question setting succesful, even though the weighing was not accurate. Weighing the questions might be worth considering as I felt that 3rd question was a lot harder than the first (both worth 6 points).» (Yes, definitely)

- Some of the lectures seemed unprepared. Often a large part of the lectures focused on the content in the previous lecture. Perhaps the course contents could be expanded or the number of lectures reduced?» (some extent)
- I found some of the teaching sometimes to be read directly from the notes provided (ie. no expansion of ideas) and sometimes confusing» (some extent)
- As said before projects are a very good way to learn things, however the presentations of the problems could be more specific and direct. » (large extent)

- Due too good lectures the literature has not been read that carefully.» (some extent)
- Relative to 7 and 9.» (some extent)
- Not very much. The book is a good idea but the pedalogical content is diffusive and not presented properly. The language quality is not what you expect from a technical institute such as Chamlers. » (some extent)
- Overall, I think the compendium was good but the part about the matrix method needs to be explained better. Also it should be more about multi-effect separation and how to calculate that.» (large extent)
- The course literature was really good.» (large extent)

Genomsnitt: 1.45

- Give 1,5 points ects credits for approved projetc work. I did not help me study for the exam, the two last projects rather made the exam study more difficult. Due to the fact that they were very time consuming» (?)
- eftersom man klarade av att göra klart dem på utsatt tid tycker jag inte bonus är relevant.» (to keep the project exercises as obligatory)
- I do not think bonus points are needed, since the exam is about the project exercises. If the exam would have been different, questions on other areas that are not in the project exercises, then it could be good to have bonus points.» (to keep the project exercises as obligatory)
- It would be nice if all the projects where conected between, like at the end you could have studied one big plant in all the aspects with CHP and you analyzed it fron head to tale.» (to keep the project exercises as obligatory)
- No bonus points please...» (to keep the project exercises as obligatory)
- I would rise the contents of the project and make them more work demanding, even add more projects. They are very good ways to learn things the proper way. Speedload your head with quickfacts a couple of rushy days before an exam would not suffice any conceptlearning, you do lose the whole pictures and you quick forget the things learned. Projects are something a student can be proud of and keep, remember it and put into bigger concepts and cycles.» (to keep the project exercises as obligatory)
- I felt that as Master"s students there was very little emphasis on quality of presentation of report and report writing skills. » (to keep the project exercises as obligatory)
- They were good but could be decreasedby one or two.» (Approved project exercises yield bonus points at the exam)
- The exercises should be obligatory, and perhaps worth 20% of the course grade.» (Other (please specify))
- They should be obiligatory but handed in on time the will yield bounus to the exam. Or they could give 1,5 cours credits.» (Other (please specify))

- and getting a written solution afterwards.» (As to day, by written comments)
- In some projects we needed to discuss some problems with our tutor, Elin, and she answered our questions very well. » (As to day, by written comments)
- As the projects are already very time consuming, I think the current system is adequate.» (As to day, by written comments)
- I could be usefull the discussion in small groups too.» (As to day, by written comments)
- the written feed back is good and the tutorial is douring clases so it is OK» (As to day, by written comments)
- on difficult part for instance project 7, written solution is recommended.» (As to day, by written comments)
- Solutions to the exercises could be available a week or so before the exam. But it is good to get personal written feedback to the exercises (like today)» (As to day, by written comments)
- This has been very useful, perhaps a bit more specific guidelines on how to continue to complete the project would be good to add.» (As to day, by written comments)
- but less written reports, it could be good to have it like in the last excercises when we got approved with out having to take time to do a report» (Discussion in small groups with the the tutor afterwards)
- It was great to know that the work was thoroughly reviewed (by Elin). In addition to the current method, I would suggest after the exercises are returned, that 10-20 minutes of a following lecture be used to review and summarize. Sometimes it was hard to have the broader perspective of what we actually did, and why, and a review of the approach after the fact would help solidify the learning.» (Other (please specify))

Poor»2 3%
Fair»5 8%
Good»39 63%
Excellent»15 24%

Genomsnitt: 3.09

- Fair only because there is so much potential in this course which goes to waste. Cut off the exam, its an ancient and obsolete learning system. Add more and extend the projects instead. Increase the english level of the course litterature and the theachers. Improve the projects instructions, make them clearer. Bring real life case studies which exemplifies the course content in practise more.» (Fair)
- A very interesting subject» (Good)
- I appreciated especially the retrofit part.» (Good)
- I was concerned in looking at the old exams when I saw problems that would have been excessively time consuming on an exam, and in particular for trial and error retrofitting of large networks. That didn"t seem to make sense as a way of testing what we learned. So, the exam this time seemed appropriate. As far as an overall impression, it seems that knowledge of these methods is very useful. This course delivered on the understanding of important methods.» (Good)
- Bra struktur på det mesta.» (Excellent)
- One of the best courses I have ever read.» (Excellent)
- I liked it, it was interesting and relevent, and also well organized. Good course book where the chapters were divided into lectures. This made it easier to come prepared to the lectures and learn more. And also the course book seemed to include the relevant parts, not much "unnecerssary" reading.» (Excellent)
- One of the best courses I"ve read at Chalmers, very good organisation of the course and it links together many aspects that have been discussed during the bachelor program of chemical engineering and also gives further knowledge in other fields.» (Excellent)
- I think is a very useful and interesting course.» (Excellent)
- I really liked this course, "all in all" it was a really good course» (Excellent)

29. What improvements can be made to next year?

- The second last lecture about the exam should be removed! We don"t need any information about how to write an exam. It was just a waste of time. I thougt that we would see some solutions to exam problems - not just the questions. That would have been useful!»
- Some home calculation exercises to do. It is hard then ju start to do old exams. »
- I suggest to consider the report of the projects as partt of final grades. For example, 2.5 point fromthe project reports and 2.5 point from the final exam which make the final grade of students.»
- give bonus points to the excercises and put effort to make the exam questions understandable..»
- Don´,t simplify so much. I´,d rather have tougher calculations»
- maybe take away the examination and improved projects instead»
- I believe teachig by using power points is a great problem. I know that this way is much easier for teachers but when the teacher writes on the board it has two important advantages: 1- students get more proper sentences from teachers which they can use them as a proper source of study. 2- they can follow the course much easier(sometimes students used to fall sleep during the lectures)»
- Sista föreläsningen inför tentan. Behöver verkligen inte berätta hur man skriver en tenta för några som går i fyran. Använd den bättre till att göra en tenta.»
- As I already said, maybe more comments on the archives of the last exams.»
- Try to do the pp-slides a bit "interesting". Alot of black and white and no pictures kakes it a bit boring»
- The lectures could be a little bit more energetic.»
- As mentioned earlier, add some example calculations in lecture material, and review the exercise after they are returned -- not a line by line how-to-solve, but a discussion on what we actually did: the method, the strategy, and the context -- a recap to drive it home.»
- Why not invite someone working at Metso (for example) to discuss constrution of pulp/paper mills and power plants. To give some insight on how it works, in real life. Whats the main priority, the biggest problems etc.»
- Maybe the tasks in the prject excercises should be abit harder to solve so that they are at the same level as the tasks in the exam.»
- remove one of the projects or shorten some of the double time projects to allow for exam study.»
- Reduce the number of lectures and use the time for better preparations.»
- describing more details in the lectures.»
- I think the exam was too theoretical (3 questions and only 2 calculation questions"). I think these amounts should be reversed.»
- give extra bonus points from projects and should consider those students who have not knowledge of IES before and describes some topic completely without making edit. i faced some difficulties while i was reading compendium it should have more detailed about pinch technology especially matrix method.»
- See coments about the projects.»
- As written above»
- questiontimes once a week »
- extra bonus points for projects should be awarded in order to deal the students left behind with only few marks to pass»
- More guest lecturers»

30. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The project exercises. Maybe you should add some exercises for the students to do at home - just for practice, not to be handed in.»
