1. If you started but did not finish this course, please state why.

- My Phd project targets became strict so i could not dedicate enough time to complete the project task of this course.»
- Deadlines for my PhD project, so I didn"t have enough time to work for the OpenFOAM project.»

2. Give your general impression of the course.

- It can cover less material in better detail. Some of the invited speakers made me feel lost.» (Good)
- More hands on experience on OpenFOAM code and tips and tricks would make this course excellent. » (Good)
- the fact that the course is intensive and that in the end the projects cover such a wide range of subjects and they add to a library always available is considered a quite easy way to follow up and work with OpenFOAM» (Excellent)
- I am really satisfied to attend this course. Because, i found lots of opportunities to improve myself.» (Excellent)

3. How much time did you spend on this course, and did it correspond to 7.5 "Higher education credits"?

We mean total time, that is, it comprises the time you spent in class and the time you spent on your own work. What should be added/removed?

- 52h lectures, and about 25h for assignments, 160h for the project, and 5h for the peer-review»
- More than 100 hours of fully OpenFOAM time.»
- I spent a little bit more than 7.5 credits but that was intentional. »
- I can"t give a number, but it was the most time I have spent on any 7.5 credits course, by far.»
- of course it did correspond to 7.5 "Higher education credits" because it took exactly the time spread within a semester for a single Master/PhD course, but within a very compact period of 4 weeks (with the presentation days). Along with the time in class, an exactly equal time has been spent on my own to work the examples and make the project as well.»
- It depends on the difficulty of the course project but for me it DOES correspond to 7.5 credit.»
- i spent around 150 hours including the classes, homeworks and final project.»
- Actually, I have know idea about my hours, but comparing with my other courses with 7.5 credits, I spent more time on this course. Say roughly 25% more. »
- Since the project of the course was included as part of my PhD project, I cannot give a fair comment. However I think that a minimum requirement for the project should be given in order to spend a sufficient amount of time.»
- Around 200 hours. May be you can add few more c++ functions which are essential for foam development.»
- Nothing to add»

4. Comment the schedule of the course.

The idea was to cover as much as possible in the beginning of the course in order to have as much free project work time as possible at the end of the course (it is after all a project course). One reason for having full days is to allow long distance PhD students.

- It would be better to define the project very early so to have a couple of meetings for questions and answers with the tutors in Chalmers to get the project going because the internationals have the distance disadvantage after the course. Regarding the full days, it can stay like that, maybe three days of less hours each.»
- As a Phd student from UK I would say this time schedule is reasonable.»
- The schedule was good»
- I liked it. It gave plenty of time for the own work, though I, and I guess most was kind of tired at the end of the day.»
- The schedule was compact and intense. I strongly believe that spending 3 days instead of 2 per week, should make the course easier to accumulate the knowledge provided. I strongly believe that distance PhD students (such as myself) did stayed at Gothenburg anyways, and definitely students studying closely would surely not bother to stay a night more in Gothenburg. I believe 3 days per week with the same workload would be optimal.»
- Satisfactory»
- I think that it would be better if the lectures are distributed more evenly, say in the first three weeks, the morning is the lecture and afternoon is the exercise.»
- Truly speking, the days having classes seem to heavy and too intensive. Therefore, sometimes it was difficult to follow, especially if someone has beginner level about openfoam or linux etc...The classes may be extended into 3 days of the week and also can have a bit longer discussion time about the topics.»
- No comments. »
- The schedule was perfect.»
- Schedule was perfect. I don"t fell the need to change it. »
- the allocation of the time is perfect»

- the slides provide just what a student requires to learn from the course. Judging from myself, having no knowledge whatsoever on OpenFOAM, I strongly believe that the course"s slides at least in the first occasion should be more detailed, like command by command, so that students with no knowledge should find it easier to follow. The next occasions were much easier to keep up with the schedule, but in the first occasion I needed to practice more at home, so that I could tune up my mind.» (Large extent)

- each year of the course improve the material!» (Small extent)
- Very good slides and nice that they are on the homepage.» (Great extent)
- The course material was the guide to practice what we did in every occasion again at home.» (Great extent)
- The ppt is really good and in detail.» (Great extent)
- The materials and the lectures were extremely perfect. » (Great extent)
- In my opinion the slides of the invited guests (for the last part of the course) should be very detailed, since they could ve very helpful for working on the project.» (Great extent)

- If assignments included more testing on OpenFOAM hands on experience it would"ve made this course excellent.» (Large extent)
- Many of the questions helped me to clarify some of the terms that were a bit blurry.» (Large extent)
- To my opinion in the first small assignments, it is good to have both questions and the exercises as in the previous years.» (Large extent)
- Maybe most of the final assignement may require more modifications of the source code in order to better understand the theoretical concepts introduced during the lesson.» (Large extent)
- I think that would be good if you add some short scripts in the assignments to be checked by the students. Another suggestion would be doing some simulation by OpenFOAM and answering the questions in assignment 2.» (Great extent)

- Of course the final project made me confident that I could work with OpenFOAM at some extend independently.» (Great extent)

9. Comment the assessment of your learning.

Is the assessment of your learning (the assignments, the project, and the peer-review) appropriate? Give some suggestions.

- I would like to have some extra practical assignments to practice compiling etc before the project»
- Yes, it was appropriate. »
- Yes I think it was. It was a bit much in the end to get the peer-review and the corrections from it but I think it was a great learning.»
- Of course they are appropriate. Especially for the PhD students, as they provide the general idea they will face in scientific publishing. However, since this is a course and not a journal, I would recommend adding a short Skype meeting of the teacher with the student right after the submitting of the review, so that they would discuss ways to improve the result of the project (as there is always room for improvement, otherwise the course wouldn"t be needed)»
- I think that it was really good experience for me to finish one of the project successfully. The course is including many steps. Therefore, people who attends this course should be determined to finish it. Otherwise, it is quite difficult to complete the all of the steps. »
- I think one of the main purpose of this course is creating a tutorial. I think sticking on creating a tutorial is not a good idea, as it takes much time to prepare a good one. Consider some students have no experience to write a tutorial. In my opinion, tutorial (as I learnt to write it in this course too) is very different from a project report. Learning OpenFOAM is very different from crating a tutorial for it. »
- It is very helpful. Moreover I would suggest to add a second step of revision. »
- It was apt. I don"t think one need to change these.»
- as should be everywhere»

10. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- assignments»
- The assignments were great get started. »
- The project.»
- project requirements, previous years databases, course content»
- In my opinion, assignments (they may be extended a bit more), project and peer-rewiev definitely should be preserved.»
- The lectures and the slides. »
- All the structure, maybe with previous suggestions. »
- Fluid structure interaction tutorial by Huadong Yuo.»
- everything»

11. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- invited speakers»
- I can"t think of anything »
- duration of days in each occasion, first occasion"s slides »
- Intensive 2 days classes per week may be changed as 3 days. In this way, classes can be done more relax and can have more time for discussion.»
- The way of preparing the project report. I think the teacher can evaluate the students with other ways other than creating a tutorial which takes time. This time can be saved to learn more materials or to do more advanced job in the project. »
- N.A»
- nothing»

12. How well did the course administration, web page, handouts etc work?

- I would find really helpful having communication with the course"s teachers when working on the projects.» (Rather well)
- Ping pong worked well, it"s also great that one can look through old projects » (Very well)
- The course homepage is very good and previous year projects can be easily searched.» (Very well)

13. Additional comments

- Very good course! Though it could have been 15 credits, at least for masters students.»
- The course may be divided into levels such as, beginner, intermadiate and high (or advance) levels within the different terms. In this way, more people may have chance to attend. »
- Thanks so much for very useful course and materials. :)»
- As a final comment I"d think even to the "open source-side" of the course. Most of the projects can be helpful for future works but not so many people know about this course. So I think that some projects could be selected, followed after the course and improved for further use in next OF releases.»
