- it was not the best ever possible but it was fairly close. » (Good)
- best way of learning for phd students is implemented in this class» (Excellent)
- It is an excellent course for someone willing to learn OpenFOAM. The amount of work required is a lot, but it definitely pays off.» (Excellent)
- Interesting, educative and fun.» (Excellent)

3. How much time did you spend on this course, and did it correspond to 7.5 "Higher education credits"?

We mean total time, that is, it comprises the time you spent in class and the time you spent on your own work. What should be added/removed?

- Everything"s just fine.»
- 210 hours, which is much higher than any other course.»
- I think the course is slightly intensive. It takes more time considering to its credit (7.5). However, since all of the students want to learn, nobody would complain about the volume of the course. »
- As I am a phd student I spend more that 7.5 credits since I"m working with CFD»
- I cannot say precisely how much time I spent on the course but I"d say slightly less than average. Mostly due to the, in comparison to other master courses, few lessons. Not saying that"s bad though. »
- Around 100 hours. However, I was not completely new to the software. »
- I spent more time than the corresponding 7.7 credits»
- 225-300. Nothing should be removed. Satisfied overall.»
- Assignment 1: 1 day Assignment 2: 1 day final project: 2.5 weeks (14 days) Self Learning: 4 weeks (20 days) in the class: 6 days ( I didn"t attend the2nd Occasion) In total: 42 days or 294hrs (1 day=7 hrs) 7.5 credits is fair as the average. Since it is a project based course and people come with and without background. I don"t know how it works but I suggest to grade the master students based on how much they have improved. »

4. Comment the schedule of the course.

The idea was to cover as much as possible in the beginning of the course in order to have as much free project work time as possible at the end of the course (it is after all a project course). One reason for having full days is to allow long distance PhD students.

- The schedule is fine.»
- Good!»
- It was quite good. Having presentation and learning process in few first days, and then students will have some time to work on their course projects, and finally presenting it to others get comments, and learning more!»
- it was good. If it was in one month, the learning efficiency decreases a lot in my view»
- I much appreciated the schedule and think that works great!»
- As a long distance PhD student, the schedule was good. It would help though to compress it even more for those of us that have to go by plane, but I dont think it would be compatible with other classes at Chalmers, so I guess it is the best possible schedule.»
- I agree»
- The schedule was good. I especially like the fact that the presentation was scheduled so late, giving us a little more time and flexibility. However the time after the presentation took place and the hand in of the report could have been shorter. »
- full day course was good for me as a PhD coming from Denmark. I would say it would be better if distance between 2nd and 3rd Occasion was 2 weeks. For the final project it was nice that we had almost 2 months to do the project. on the 2nd and 3rd and after presentation it would be nice to have one more extra day for those who have questions. make a list and give them 30 min each to ask their questions. It is a bit messy if many people want to ask their problems during the breaks or at the end of the lecture day. »

- The only thing that could be improved would be to organise the students who want to ask personal OpenFOAM questions related to their projects in case too many of them have issues to discuss.» (Large extent)
- The first two sessions were quite good for me, since I had just started using OpenFoam. The third Occasion was a bit loaded with too much materials.I got lost in the middle. I know it is a bit difficult as I believe it is learning by doing. » (Large extent)

- I often go back to the slides when I need to refresh some theory. They are very useful.» (Large extent)
- I was getting lost at some points during the lectures. So I had to go back to the materials again at home to find out what was it. yes it was helpful. » (Large extent)

- The second assignment have been useful for me since there"s some tips on how to handle own implementations. For me some basics in the OpenFOAM special programming would have been nice to try out before the project. Like how to read from files to different structures and how the database works and such. » (Some extent)
- Assignments were very helpful, specially in order to understand how OpenFOAM works!» (Large extent)
- In general the assignment were good since they made me to double check almost the whole course slides again. » (Great extent)

- My understanding of OpenFOAM has improved a lot since I started the course. » (Great extent)
- Maybe because it was part of my PhD project.» (Great extent)

9. Comment the assessment of your learning.

Is the assessment of your learning (the assignments, the project, and the peer-review) appropriate? Give some suggestions.

- The final project is a little bit too much work in my case.»
- Yes. I think since the main objective of the course is to teach students how to use a software and how to develop it, the assignments were totally appropriate.»
- it was good»
- As a master student I can see the function of the peer-reviewing and all but might not have a direct use for it. Otherwise I would have only wanted some more fundamental programming tips, like how the database works or how to handle functions/class scopes and such.»
- Yes, it was appropriate. »
- I think it is appropriate. »
- I suggest for PhD"s let them choose the assignment themselves, so they can choose the ones which are helpful for them. the peer-review process is a great idea. »

10. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Klas Jareteg höll en väldigt bra gästföreläsning som gärna får vara kvar. Vid närmare eftertanke bör det mesta bevaras.»
- I think most of the current format is good, and can be kept.»
- The project format!»
- The course in general»
- the tutorial like project»
- - ping-pong system - peer-review process »

11. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Under projektet upptäckte jag att pyFoam är toppen, så lite fler föreläsningar om det hade varit uppskattat.»
- Maybe the first assignment»
- Nothing that I can think of»
- Probably some little things in the content, but this is a personal opinion: it depends much on the PhD area of interest»
- - the process of asking questions in person. (some times it is easier than sending many emails) »

12. How well did the course administration, web page, handouts etc work?

- Worked very well, specially for long distance PhDs.» (Very well)

13. Additional comments

- Bra kurs!»
- Thanks to Olivier, Jelena and Håkan.»
- one more suggestion: keep the lectures fun (I think it works when lectures have many twists) »
