- Though I don"t understand the Judegement and approach-section: "Differentiate and manipulate formal descriptions of languages, automata and grammars with focus on regular and context-free languages, finite automata and regular expressions." -- http://www.cse.chalmers.se/edu/course/TMV027/#goals» (The goals clearly describe what I am supposed to learn)
- Goals can always be described in even more detail.» (The goals clearly describe what I am supposed to learn)
- I don"t remember» (I have not seen/read the goals)

- I do not se the reason why there was a lot of questions like describe the language as a subquestions which meant that if you missed the first question you were not able to answer the subquestions even when it was not realated to the main topic of the questions and I do not see the reason behind 6p turing machins when we it was the last part of the course and the assignment regarding it had deadline the day before the exeam.» (No, not at all)
- Well, I donät know about the goals since I donät remember if I have read them, but the examination seems reasonable regarding the content of the course.» (Yes, definitely)
- More difficult exam than previous years?» (Yes, definitely)
- But it would be nice to have a 5 hour exam or not that many large questions. There wasn"t enough time (for me) to answer all questions.» (Yes, definitely)
- Although having questions depending on previous question was a bit annoying.» (Yes, definitely)
- But the exam was much harder then previous years. In spite more people passing it this year.» (Yes, definitely)
- I still did not read them. The examination did however test my understanding of everything in the course, so the goals have probably been met. Good exam, good weekly assignments.» (I don"t know/have not been examined yet)

- See previos comment regarding participation in the lectures.» (Small extent)
- Ana was good at teaching automatas, but the more abstract the course got, the more focused she became on the proofs. They are very important, but doesn"t give the intuitive understanding required to work with the subject. I found some good youtube-lectures, and followed them for the second half of the course.» (Some extent)
- Didn"t attend that much on the lectures/exercises...» (Some extent)
- She actually just followed the book when it came down to the lectures as well as the examples. She has the same examples, year after year so, it would"ve been better if there were different examples, when it comes to learning.» (Some extent)
- The lectures could have been much simpler to understand. Concepts of low and average difficulty were explained in a much too complicated way.» (Some extent)
- Good teaching staff on this course. Helpful.» (Large extent)
- Especially the excersises» (Large extent)
- The exercise sessions were the best for learning.» (Great extent)

- The first assignment made me feel like I was retarded (not a joke), should have learned induction in the math courses and the short lecture in the beginning of this course did not prepare the students enough for this assignment.» (Small extent)
- More detailed feedback, perhaps having some extra time to correct what you did wrong would be benificial to the learning process.» (Large extent)
- The concept of the assignments was good. But I would"ve liked this process instead: - Allow the students to help each other, since that is what we"ve been taught to do up until now and it also saves huge amounts of time. And the students who have just copied the solutions to the assignments will not pass the exam anyway. - Remove the points. - Let the students submit their individual solutions in Fire. Correct the solutions and let the students fix the incorrect parts of the assignment. If the assignment isn"t correct after three tries, I doubt it ever will be.» (Large extent)
- Assignments are a great tool. Don"t know about making them obligatory. » (Large extent)
- major part of learning course was through the assignments, which were very well balanced apart from the first week that had a bit too much of proofs.» (Great extent)

- I"m very thankful for having the pace set up, and the assignments themselves had good questions.» (Great extent)
- Very good and fun assignments!» (Great extent)
- A bit stressful, but still really really good for learning. It forced the students to study, each week.» (Great extent)

- I regard this as a Soduko course. We learn to put numbers and arrows in a pattern on a paper and then update the arrows or the numbers in a certain way. Much like solving Soduko, and I do not get the point of it.» (Poor)
- It"s too mathematical to be really fun for me.» (Fair)
- Very interesting course, the only thing there"s to complain about is the examples that were given by the lecturer (see above)» (Good)
- Good in some areas. Excellent in others. » (Good)

16. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Using a lot of proofs demands that you learn!»
- the assignments and their difficulty, they are just where they should be. The exam with many small questions is nice also. Individual assignments are good.»
- The assignments, they were very helpful.»
- The assignments were a great source of learning, making sure that you follow the course.»

- Possibilities to get assignment corrected with feedback. »
- The excersises and the way they were handled»
- The labs»
- Exercises»
- The assignments. »

17. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- I liked the guest lectures but maybe think through even more before the lectures - what is useful and what is not (for the course). »
-
- Having an extra week to correct what you did wrong on the assignments would be great. Getting feedback on last weeks assignment a little earlier (most weeks you got your feedback the day before or the same day as the next assignment was due, if you misunderstand something you"re screwed!)»
- More available solutions to exercises»
- Guest lecturers.»
- A more thorough lecture about induction. Better lecture slides and not just copy the course literature, many examples where copied from the book. »
- By far the worst thing about the course was that Ana refuses to give any kind of excersices with answers. I don"t learn much from listening, and I don"t work well if I can"t check my answers afterwards. As such, I had huge problems in the beginning of the course. The only reason I managed as well as I did was because other universities had better lectures and exercises with answers.»
- Maybe the results to the assignments after each deadline has passed, with answers that explains how each exercise has been solved.»
- The feedback on assignments could sometimes be more complete. Especially since resubmissions are not allowed. Or maybe post solutions after deadline.»
- Can"t think of anything specific.»
- The lectures, the slides.»
- Put guest lectures later and avoid assignment last week that cannot be corrected before the exam. »
- Maybe the ability to complement assignments afterwards»
- A more practical approach with more programming would be fun.»
- I wouldn"t complain if I saw more structure in the slides, or rather a clear "this is how you do ________" before showing an example of it. Proofs and other text was kind of dissolved into the learning on how to apply a concept. At least that"s how it felt to me.»
- Allowing to work in pairs on assignments and get some bonus points if you did them well! Perhaps not that many guest lectures»
- The examples in the lectures, since it was mostly the same as the ones in the book. »
- Remove guest lecturers. Only one TA? (not really 100% sure on that one). No obligatory assignments. Bonus points instead. »
- The contents of the guest lectures could be changed»
- Nothing»
- More time for exercises»

18. Additional comments

- overall enjoyable and useful course. The assignment helpers Pablo and Simon did a great job!»
- The assignments with solutions (published after the deadline) or the exercises with solutions not both, since there are not time to prepare solutions for both the assignments and exercises. PICK ONE. Allow the students to ask each other about the assignment and publish the solutions to the assignments after the deadline. It would also be beneficial to make the answers to exercises available on the course page / these exercises are chosen as something every student should pass and there is no answer / solution to them so the student DO NOT know if he/she has it right when trying to solve the exercise.»
- The (current) lecturer should maybe try to not pronounce "states" as "estates" if possible, and should refer to the singular of automata as automaton (as opposed to nearly always using automata). These are just little constant annoyances (although unimportant) which put me off the otherwise enjoyable lectures after a while.»
- Please have a nice summer everyone, I will.»
- Thank you»
- Ana Bove - Great lecturer, best one so far. Fun but still serious. Keep up the good work!»
- The exam was considerably harder then previous years. Even if it was worth less points then previous years. This is something I feel is a bit strange. »
- I had hoped to learn to write useful regular expressions.»
- Somewhat interesting course»
- I would have liked some latex resources on the webpage, perhaps a template or such. Also it would have been nice to have seen the original tex files for the assignments and slides.»
