- I had encountered many of the terms (especially Raid, Interupts and others from the course "Datorsystemteknik") in the course already, so in my opinion it should be much harder.» (No, the goals are set too low)

- I think 20/60 points of file system questions was far too much. 1/3 of an operating system can"t be about filesystems?» (To some extent)
- The part about modern seem neglected more or less. There were some material on the SMP topic. I"d like to at least something about virtualization.» (To some extent)

- The entire layout of the lecture could have been remade. Most of the information was presented as bulleted lines with facts. The point of lectures are to not simply be presented with facts but to get some explaining as well. The connection between different parts of the cours was very hard to realize.» (Small extent)

- Didnt get the book. I looked some in it tho since my firend had one. It was however not the correct book as Cremona managed to buy the wrong version of it.» (Small extent)

- arnes föreläsnings anteckningarna var grumt bra, dom andra var också bra men lite flumigga här och var» (?)
- I got the feeling that all information was not on the page, we got information on the lectures. I think also that the course page should be redesigned so information gets easier to find and necessary tasks are pointed out more clearer.» (Very badly)
- The website is worthless, some sort of index would be good instead of random hypertext links. Booking for labs are not electronic, the "pass around a paper"-algorithm is used and its really worthless.» (Very badly)

- The webpage does include most information needed but its close to impossible to navigate. If I did not have the possibility to use text search on it I never would have found the important link. The color was awful at start, corrected after some time. Examples of worthless layout of links: The slides can only be accessed throu a minimal link inside a portion of text. The old exams can only be found at the very end of the page with no headline what so ever.» (Rather badly)
- The students that went to the exeercise where lab 2 was presentet got material on the lab that wasn´,t available for the ones that wasn´,t there. All material that is handed out should be made available for all the students. The webpage is messy and it´,s difficult to find things. You should add some kind of menu system to the left with buttons: general info, labs, exercises, lectures. Right now everything is on one page with same font and size, including links which also are embedded in the text. = very messy. All handouts should be published in pdf or txt format. ABSOLUTELY NOT powerpoint or word.» (Rather badly)

- At the lab-sessions for lab2 there were really only one tutor you could ask (the other ones didnt know enough about the context), Wolfgang John.» (Rather poor)
- One of the supervisors should not take part in any human interaction what so ever, his people skills are equal to 0. No need to mention name.» (Rather poor)

- I felt about half the course was repetition from Datorsystemteknik and Paralellprogramming.» (Too low)
- I did the assignements rather quick but I guess that was because of previous experience.» (Low)
- Flera hundra olika punkter som man skulle kunna untantill. Flera olika böcker som man skulle skaffa och läsa om de olika sakerna i de olika böckerna.» (High)

16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- The coursepage.»
- The website. The not-working pdf-files hosted on the website. The number of tutors that actually know what the labs are about. Use definite deadlines in the Fire-system, dont just write them Somewhere on the haystack that is the website. Maybe change the coursename to "UNIX" since that is all it covers.»
- Instead of focusing too much on various concurrency algorithms, which can be seen as pre-req, why not do some more studies into how various OS work today, more than just linux that is.»

- The lectures should be redone. Preferably by letting the two lectureres duscuss them together. The exercises are completely useless in terms of examination. Anyone doing the exam without having been on any of the exercises would have just as large chances on passing it as those attending them. Either take up useful subjects there or put something on the exam to match the exercises better. The webpage needs an entire overhaul.»

- Some of the tutors on the other hand should be able to answere direct questions to some problems that are not related to the things that is "the problem" in the labs. As it was now ALL questions was answered with "gossip". Gossip is good, but not the answere to everything. »
- Pre assignment 1 was so to the extent that it was almost time consumming rather than learning.»
- The number of supervised labhours could increase some. Whatever is said during the lectures should be posted on the website, especially relevant information about the labs. One should not be "punished" if you miss a lecture.»
- better structure for the lecturers. Feels like Arne went one track while marina went another, and the more lectures they had the more they sliped away from each other. Marina a lot on multi programming while Arne focused on implementation of different things in UNIX. Would be better if you somehow syncronized in the end.»

- Most of what Arne was teaching. Most of it was outdated and yesterdays technology. How to optimize for cylinders on harddrives etc. that isn"t used anymore. Very much about how the hardware worked 10-20 years ago, and nothing about how the future looks. Question 2 on the exam was only about past technologies for example.»

17. Additional comments

- Cremona got the book very late and then it finally came it was a book with java examples. I didn"t want to pay 500 SEK for a book in operating systems with java examples (!?) so I ordered mine from Adlibris and got it just in time for the exam.. And that"s one week ago. Good administration with the labs. Nice that we got extra time for lab 2 and an extra time for lab 1 presentation. Very good that the labs could be done at either home or school (or both).»
- The administration is not adequate for a CTH-course.»
- Dont squeeze in every subject in the course, focus on Operating Systems only.»
- I did however learn some interesting things during the course. The big problem was that I didnt get much help in increasing my interest in the subject. I could certainly have learned much more with a better design on the lectures.»

- It would be nice if the files for the laborations would compile from start, so it wouldn"t begin with debugging that code...»
