9. Comments about teaching and course administration

- There was no info about that there were exercises on arturs part for example. I also feel that it is kind of a bad idea of andrew to put up tutorial questions without answers and then releasing the answers some week before the exam. How are you going to learn or know wether your answer is right or not? The lecture notes didn"t help for this, if they would have, then I wouldn"t complain over this.»
- The amount of stuff taught is a lot and sometimes teachers tend to skip important things. I prefer of they teach slowly and clearly the important stuff.»

- Arthur"s lectures did not always contribute to learning. Usually they were slow, and it was sometimes hard to follow what the goal with the lecture was. However, the demonstrations he made were quite useful. Andrew, on the other hand, tried to fit in too much information on his two hour lectures. The presentation slides could be between 60-80 slides, which requires a pace soo high that it was hard to follow. Besides the lectures it was supposed that we should deal with some "practicals" (matlab) as well as "tutorials" (pen and paper) in order to get the concept. 16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- ur is quite good when you ask him in person. Another problem is that these lecturers are not situated at this school, at least i couldn"t find any offices that were theirs and therefore you couldn"t get hold of anybody who could answer questions about exercises so in my oppinion it is as if you are expected to learn and understand everything by your own. Maybe its time to put in some exercises and some phd"s helping students or just change so that the students can get help when needed, not the week before exams or during lectures.»

- If I have to show the knowledge of an algorithm I can do that with less calculation (for example the 4x4 matrix for mean shift). The amount of time is few compared to the amount of exercises.»

- THe project were pretty useless. If we are going to do prject there should either only be a few choices so that student can discuss among eachother or the teachers needs to be more accessable. The exam is a mess! I can really not see the point in have questions that take so much time to answer. Calculating 1000 stuff on several of the assignments is just stupid. I know that arthur said that we should know the material well enough so that we have time to do everything, but it is still really stupid. You do not give the student a fair chanse to proov what you know!»
- The exam was WAY to long! It feels very bad to, in my case, know how to solve an exercise but not be able to do it because of lack of time on the exam. I know this has been issued before, why can"t you learn from your previous mistakes?»
- if the lecture can focus more on several rather important issue rather than give a brief introduction about overall subjects, it could be better.»

- Examination. The thesis wasted a lot of time with really unneccessary stuff, like computing 13 iterations by hand (wouldn"t two suffice?), which was common for previous exam as well. Focus thesis on understanding, not on time-consuming computations.»
- To much content in the course. Should focus more on some areas instead. To many tasks on the exam, very hard to finish in time. Maybe a larger project could be added as examination and a smaller exam. Or use the exam to get higher grades.»
- Give points for the labs for the exam. We spent so many hours doing them.. Better structure is needed- there were too many things to do with the tutorials, practicals, exercises, and extra litterature in form of articles»
- 1. The extent of some lectures, too much material. 2. The final exam really needs to change, way too many time-consuming questions for a four hour exam. Either less questions in the exam, so it would actually be possible to finish it before time is up (which wasn"t the case). Or examinate with a bigger project, which makes more sense in a course like this. 3. The rule of that groups of three will get extra tasks, some students just ended up without a group because of this. With this logic individual students shouldn"t have to do as much as groups of two, right?»

- First lab was much heavier than the rest, could shrink it to be more reasonable level. Slower pace and fewer slides for Andrew to have time for all of them in one lecture and avoid rushing through them. More calculations, SOLUTIONS and not only answeres, defenitely answeres to subproblems in the problems»
- Lab number one was a lot more complicated than the others so maybe better preparation needed. The exam has nothing to do with the lectures. Only did a couple of exercices during the classes and it is not enough. Maybe adding some hours of exercices per week will help understand them better. The exam is too long to do in four hours. I know I am not the only one who did not manage to finish. I don"t think is fair to have 8 point in the exam where the book was needed, the people who did not have the book could not answer this question. Maybe those pages should be added in appendix.»

- I think it would be good to make some mandatory supervision session or draft hand-ins for the project. This would maybe prevent students from starting to late with the project or working into a wrong direction.»
- In my opinion during the course it was quite hard to learn something unless you started sitting and make some guesses and google on other lecturers slides and this is shows how bad the situation im describing is. Other than that artur is quite good when you ask him in person. Another problem is that these lecturers are not situated at this school, at least i couldn"t find any offices that were theirs and therefore you couldn"t get hold of anybody who could answer questions about exercises so in my oppinion it is as if you are expected to learn and understand everything by your own. - Exam practice was inadequate. Teachers should advise students to attempt part 2(Artur"s) of exam first and part 1(Andrew"s) later. This way they can save time.»
- The exam tried to cover "too much" content. I think it would be better to skip the exam and instead make the project part bigger. »
