- The FEM-project concerning Diana should be improved. I think it"s not pedagogical to work in groups of four students when doing computer tasks.» (To some extent)
- The needed accuracy (as for example question 1c of the last exam) is not always clear. "When a non-linear analysis is necessary?" needs a bit more concern maybe. » (To some extent)
- I think Björn is to focused on hard long problems instead of testing basic knowledge.» (Yes, definitely)

Teaching and learning

4. To what extent has the organised teaching activities been of help for your learning?

- Theory and exercised were well presented.» (Some extent)
- I think you should start with powerpoints in your education, so that the lectures can be put on the course homepage afterward, as Mohammad did in steel structures. The FEM-project should be limited to a smaller work and it should be easier to get help.» (Some extent)
- More supervised hours for the FE-project is needed.» (Large extent)
- I would say "Great extent", if there was some more time available to learn Diana better. Also, the formation of the groups is sometimes not so effective, as not all the students want to reach the project work at its maximum, which leaves the ones who want with not so many choices.» (Large extent)
- Not enough teacher in the e-studio for the fem-project.» (Large extent)
- Superb lectures» (Great extent)
- The lessons with Björn is very good as usual The lectures with mario was a little hard to get the point with, and to relate these to the examples and examinationquestions.» (Great extent)

- There was not a lot of things in the FEM book that we needed to know. » (Some extent)
- Very good examples with solutions. » (Great extent)
- Great books and a functional interactive communication through ping pong!» (Great extent)

- The FEM-lab was chaos, it was impossible to get any help and at one occasion we couldnt preceed on our own and waited for 3 hours for help. The other groups has experienced the same» (Very poor)
- More consultation time (or present teachers) during the project» (Rather good)
- Easy to ask questions during lectures, but the supervision in the FE-project was not enough.» (Rather good)
- FEM part dident work out verry well» (Rather good)
- At times it is hard to get a hold of the teachers.» (Rather good)
- Lite bristande på FEM-arbetet vad gällande DIANA....många många timmar gick till spillo för att programmet inte fungerade ordentligt och för få datorer med licens!!!!!» (Rather good)
- The course provided much opportunity for the concultation time what is very good for better understanding and what is very appriciated. » (Very good)
- I would suggest making a platform for questions on pingping. I had questions that I got response for, but it"s better to make it available for all students.» (Very good)
- All the teaching stuff did great job and they were always available! I would appreciate some more help in the project work though, meaning, that Mario and Kamyab did great job, but maybe one more teacher with similar knowledge would help a lot. » (Very good)
- Except in the e-studio, but mario tried to help us much when we did not have class so that was very good.» (Very good)

- Diana lab was shit! You need to find and install The program on The v computers and book The room» (Small extent)
- Hard to find time to sit in E-studion at other times than the scheduled.» (Small extent)
- specially the computer rooms. E-studion was full almost all the time, and that was the only place we could do our group task.. Also bad to find quite and nice study rooms in school» (Small extent)
- The computer room where FE-program Diana is installed was booked almost all the time -> hard to work outside scheduled hours.» (Some extent)
- problems with accses to computerroom with diana» (Some extent)
- Except from the E-studio, I only used the facilities to a small extent. It"s unfortunately usually difficult to find available computers in the V-building, at least after 9 am.» (Some extent)
- It would have been good to have more booked occasions in e-studion since it now was very hard to find time in the schedule to work with the FEM-project on our own» (Some extent)
- E-studio was not good, the room was booked all the time. » (Some extent)
- More scheduled time in E-studion for the fem project is appreciated» (Some extent)
- Hard to get time at the computer lab. And teachers advise. Specially at the individual task» (Some extent)
- Only restricted to some computers in one computer hall during the project is to low. It was not that easy to have access to those computers » (Large extent)
- It was a pity that the access to the computers with Diana program was limited.» (Large extent)
- Could have come in handy to have more Diana licences.» (Large extent)
- Its always hard to find somewhere to sit and study in the V-building.» (Large extent)
- The computer lab room was very hard to get more time in, which was very bad since almost no group could finish the task in time - since it was to difficult and hard to understand the program. As well the supervision in the FEM task was kind of bad.» (Large extent)
- The e-studio was hard to get access and time in. » (Large extent)
- As is usually the case, there is nothing a student cannot do in Chalmers!Great facilities! If "TNO Diana" were a bit more elastic with the licenses they offer, then it would make things even better.» (Great extent)

- The Structural dynamics course really required a lot of time, but I think I still spent fairly much time on this course.» (20-40%)
- structural dynamics took to much time» (20-40%)
- Due to the fact that structural dynamics has so many "compulsory" assignments. (You pretty much have to do them all in order to pass the exam, one assignment each week).» (20-40%)
- Unfortunatly I was not able to spend more time on this course since the other course I was attending was overwhelming» (20-40%)
- Structural dynamics took alot of time.» (20-40%)
- I spent quite a lot of time on this course since it is or large interest for me. However, the course taken at the same time, structural dynamics, had weekly assignments that was very time consuming and stole a lot of time from this course. I didn"t have time to do as many examples as I had aimed for.» (20-40%)
- I would like to spend much more time, but the workload in "Structural Dynamics" was a bit too high, that it took some time that should or was meant to be for concrete. » (about 50%)
- Had to sacrifice time from my other course» (60-80%)
- much time on project...no time left for the recomended exercises » (60-80%)
- The FEM took very much time, and also the examples were very many and would have needed more available time than we could now invest in them.» (60-80%)
- The fem-project was stressfull, to much steps to do in that project. Part 1 would have been enough.» (60-80%)
- I studied at half time (7,5 credits) during the second study period, but spend a lot more than 50% on the course.» (more than 80%)

10. How was the course workload?

- Both this course and the Structural Dynamics course where tough courses, however I did not set high priority on this one since I find dynamics more interesting.» (High)
- "High" as it should be, but totally manageable.» (High)
- The fem-project had too high workload.» (High)
- It was mainly the fem project that was frustrating since a lot of time was spent on finding errors without actually learning something. A solution could be more guidance, by that I mean more teachers more scheduled opportunities and a more organized and structured task» (High)
- As with Concrete Structures (VBB072), I think the workload was too high. I studied 8-17 almost every day, many evenings and most weekends, but still I couldn"t keep up with all the theory and exercises. I eventually managed the final exam, but only with a small margin.» (Too high)
- Too many topics and exercises for just 7 weeks. The lab for Diana takes time away from the studies and was very unclear and not helpful» (Too high)

Summarising questions

- The Diana project was not helpful » (Adequate)
- Bad organization with FEM part otherwise excellent» (Good)
- close to excellent....we lern a lot» (Good)
- Very good except for the FEM-lab Perhaps too "spretig", kursen innehöll väldigt ,många olika moment i dimensionering som var väldigt detaljerade, men det blev då väldigt svårt att förstå helheten i kursen.» (Good)
- FEM part less good than the other. » (Good)
- I gained a lot in this course. This general focus in MPSEB department on learning the fundamentals well is what I like the most. » (Excellent)

12. What is the remaining value of the course in the future

29 svarande

Very small»0 0%
Rather small»1 3%
Neutral»7 24%
Rahter high»10 34%
Very high»11 37%

- Don´,t know yet!» (Neutral)
- Hopefulley very high.» (Rahter high)
- We were introduced to all the different kinds of analysis, especially the outcomes from the non-linear analysis form a stable basis for the future!» (Very high)

13. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Björns teaching! FEM-projects was interesting as well»
- The dugga»
- The way of conducting the lectures, where the theory was mixed with going through some exercises. The understanding that the subject can be difficult for students and thus providing many opportunities to ask questions. Questions and small exercises to the students during lecture that make us thinking and searching for the solutions instead of just waitnig for the ready explanation from the teacher.»
- Exercises and theory during lectures.»
- The whole structure and content of the course. The individual "group specific tasks" in the FEM task.»
- The dugga, a good way to keep up with the tempo of the course.»
- The structure of the course seems ok»
- The dugga is a great way to get understanding of the theory in the course!!»
- more time for the project...»
- Teacher»
- Björns leectures, the first part in the FEM-project-»
- Bjorn, Mario, Kamyab, books, teaching on the black board.»
- All of Björns lectures, hand out of exercises, the compendiums. But not the one about Fem which was rather poor.»
- The teachers. Björn and Mario, you are very good teachers! All the things in the course should be preserved. »
- Mario and Björn are both very good teachers. The teaching method of lectures with complimenting exercises is also appreciated. The course literature is a necessary complement to the lectures.»

14. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- More consultant time during the projects, especially since a new program was used (Diana) so lot of the time was spend on just learning and searching in the program.»
- The supervision of the FE-project.»
- More time for FEM project and more opportunity to consult questions about DIANA program.»
- I think the Diana task should be reevaluated. It"s good that we get aquainted with the software, but the group-specific tasks were of very varying diffuculty, the teachers didn"t know how to solve problems when modeling, and it was hard to find time to perform the study. However, the seminar was good, but I think that was more down to the ambition of the students than to the task itself. »
- guidlines for second part of FEM task, hard to know what to do and problems to get help in computerlab since all groups had problems.»
- The Diana project could probably be improved. Too many problems and too little teacher support.»
- The FEM task should be carried out in a software that the students are familiar with when assigning so complex questions. The supervisors should check that all the groups have understood what their assignment really is.»
- Perhaps the FEM-task could be a bit easier (or at least possible to do) and also the questions concerning FEM on the dugga (seems like no one knew what the specific answer to the questions should be..)»
- The computer task needs to be change in some way. The group specific tasks was to advanced in comparssion to the help we got. Hard to learn a new program under so short time..»
- Acknowledge the mathematical background we have and use math to define and derive the formulas. It is impossible to learn all the small tricks and ideas of each specific model, however we do have a large extent of mathematical knowledge to apply if we only would be pointed in that direction.»
- The Diana project The exercises should be interpolated with what happens in reality in order t have a better view»
- The FEM project was not that good and did not contribute to the understanding that much.»
- The layout of the FEM-project so that it becomes more concrete (konkret).»
- I don"t think that the dugga is a good way of examining the theoretical knowledge. Since we get the answers and are studying those, a lot of the time will be spend on REMEMBERING all YOUR answers instead of understanding the theory behind the subject. At the dugga I have got the impression that very small misstakes gives big reductions of points, hence learning the exact answers is good for you. I think Björn should think about the aim of the dugga and how well the dugga and the dugga points will reflect the aim of the course. »
- The second part of the FEM-project, either a bettter description or at least double time with teachers, tat part was chaos!!!»
- The organization of the project work should be refined I think. There is not enough time to become acquainted with the software.Maybe Abaqus would be a better solution? »
- The organisation of the FEM task and the fem task in it self. It"s very frustrating when you work with a task for hours and than in the end get the answer that it can"t be solved on an ordinary computer. It is as well bad to do tasks bigger than time available on the schedule and than the computer lab room always is booked.»
- The size of the fem-project. Take away the group specific problem.»
- The fem task must be improved so that the work can proceed smoothly.»
- FEM task and the FEM book»
