- Did not read the book» (Small extent)
- The book was a bit tricky to read. I didn"t find it very pedagogic all the time and it was just... weird sometimes.» (Some extent)
- Also course material is good, The slides by Olaf was Great, Philippas might consider changing some of his material to be more "educative" It seems that he sometimes dont have a "red line" to follow. that is something that is also clear when you afterwards look at the slides.» (Great extent)
- Not the course literature as much as the lecture notes which were provided online (these are very useful as they present and synthesise all the contents in a very structured and visual manner).» (Great extent)

- The lab sessions was not very effeicient...» (Rather poor)
- Not so good in the lab sessions. Sometimes we had to wait for 2 hours and sometimes we did not get any help at all.» (Rather poor)
- Long waiting times for getting help and for demostrating labs.» (Rather poor)
- It was hard to ask questions during the lab passes because often there were a lot of people who wanted to ask questions and very often the lab assistants were helping people for a long time.» (Rather good)
- Really great with interactive classes, short recaps and short discussions on how labs and other stuff is working out for people, keep that up!» (Very good)
- Lectures were very welcoming for asking questions, posing doubts and intervening in general. Both the responsible teacher for the course and the teaching assistants were open to questions outside lectures and laboration times and responded well (time and content-wise) to e-mails.» (Very good)

- Communication and coordination with my lab partner was at times a bit hard, but in general cooperation was good: during lab work times (to seek some advice or discuss concepts and problems together) or, for example, by forming a study group during the last part of the course. The student environment was very good.» (Rather well)

12. How was the course workload?

25 svarande

Too low»0 0%
Low»0 0%
Adequate»17 68%
High»7 28%
Too high»1 4%

Genomsnitt: 3.36

- It was too high during week 2 and tree when wee worked on the first lab, the rest of the time was it adequate.» (Adequate)
- The first lab had way to high workload.» (High)
- The only thing which makes me think that the workload was high and not adequate was the amount of time we had to spend on the first lab. The amount of time spent on the graphs and statistics was too much. This way probably due to the very slow seattle and the many iterations of program execution required to fulfill the statistical part. The statistical part of the lab was not that educative but rather a long and tiresome wait for the program to output some results. The main problems we encountered with the programming part of the first lab was to use the right amount of locks and to find the right place to put them. From what I recall we only did the first and the third lab. The third lab was very good, reasonable and straightforward. I felt that it was very related to the topics discussed in the lectures and you did get a good understanding of how it worked.» (High)
- In reality it was high for the first part of the lab assignments, but feedback was asked for to students in order to modulate the deadlines and requirements of the lab work (since there was a new and different kind of lab assignments with respect to previous years).» (High)

13. How was the total workload this study period?

- Just good because of the lab passes were not very well structured and because of the first lab was pretty hard. Otherwise the course was excellent» (Good)
- Nice lecturer, very pedagogic, it is nice to be taught by someone who seems to be very motived. » (Excellent)
- Really interesting and fun course to take.» (Excellent)
- Olaf is a great lecturer. His lectures are very informative and interesting.» (Excellent)
- I think Olaf is the best lecturer I"ve ever met!» (Excellent)
- The course is very well prepared. The teacher for this course does very well presentation and also the slides are very good. It"s very useful for us to understand how the protocols work.» (Excellent)
- Very useful, interesting and motivating.» (Excellent)

15. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Topics and applications.»
- Firs of all the Professor , He was great. Other than that Class Interactivity was great. Should be kept.»
- Olaf»
- Labs in Seattle was really interesting and fun although time-consuming with debugging and testing. Java labs are maybe a bit to easy. Maybe add some extension to those next year because the only hard part is to get Netsim to cooperate. The lab solution in itself is basically given in the labPM, not much thinking or problem solving is required to complete it. basically translate text into javacode.»
- The teaacher»
- Review of previous lessons, interactive lessons »
- Olaf is a very good teacher! :) I liked the way he structured his classes.»
- Olaf and the netsim labs!»
- The teacher Olaf! Absolutly one of the greatest at Chalmers! His way of interactive teaching - asking questions and "forcing" people to answer is one thing I found very good! Especially for people like me, who may know the answer but don"t like to speak up.»
- Interaction with students in lectures»
- teacher»
- Olaf was a great teacher. His powerpoint slides were educative. Keep him»
- Definitely the class/lecture dynamics and structuring. Specially Olaf Landsiedel"s style of teaching which helps a lot motivation and study-wise. The new style of lab assignments (for the first half of the course) should also be kept as it is innovative and brings students closer to working on problems in "real-life" scenarios.»

16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- I would have liked to have a stronger connection between the lectures and labs, even if there was an adequate link between those already. »
- Lab work was hard to do because of not much guidance so better Lab PM"s and some skeleton code to start work with would be better»
- The labs in some way. The first lab was hard and fun (but to little time to do it. The 3 and 4 lab were too easy.»
- make the last two labs a little bit more challenging, take an afternoon and go over Philippas material and make it more clear.»
- The load balance for the labs.. the first two was very hard and the last two was very easy instead. »
- Maybe more lab hours are preferable. Also some sort of exercise class with questions to solve (theoretical) and opportunity to ask questions can help.»
- Lab works were really hard (give lab assignments easier or evaluate them for the final graduation).»
- Philippas lectures...»
- The seattle lab was not so good. Especially the evaluetaion part, it took like forever to finish!»
- The python labs.»
- I think labs should help us to understand the protocols deeper but not get used to different platforms. This year, we need to use both python and java. It waste a lot for time to get used to the environment. Maybe students next year can choose only one platform and finish all the labs on one platform, so that students can focus on the protocol.»
- The lectures by Philippas should be taken by Olaf. It"s hard to hear what Philippas says, and it also seems like he was just reading right out of the book. Gained nothing trying to listen to him.»
- Too much repetition of earlier courses and too little content. »
- Lab exercises, Lectures by Philippas (Students who bothered to attend his lectures needs coffee just to stay awake)»
- Examination dates, dont let two compulsory courses have exam dates within 24 hours.»
- Perhaps less lectures should be given by Philippas Tsigas as his communication skills are not very good which makes it harder to follow his lectures (lectures become less participative from the students" side).»

17. Additional comments

- Overall, great course. »
- Overall a great course, very interesting.»
- The TA, who does not willing to help students, should not be TA. Every time I ask questions to him, his answers is this is the questions we leave for you, or you should read the course book. I can"t get any help from him.»
- Prof.Olaf Landsiedel is very good at teaching»
- Overall the course has been very satisfying and interesting. The fact that what was sought was for the student to become familiar and comfortable identifying and solving problems in the studied domain (distributed systems) was very good too, instead of focusing on learning off by heart algorithms to solve them. The way the different themes were approached made it easier for the student to actually understand the why"s and how"s of what is studied AND to gain even further interest in the field. I must repeat again that the course responsible, Olaf Landsiedel, has been a great teacher and course director.»
