- The exam was completely fact-based which is a bit boring in my opinion. I like to use my brain and think. The lab however was good.» (To some extent)
- One course goal was "to implement some simple routine in an operating system". The labs that were supposed to cover this goal felt "toy-ish" and far too removed from the reality of operating systems.» (To some extent)

- Would not recomment in its current shape.» (Poor)
- The teaching was pretty worthless. The labs seemed to be outdated long ago.» (Poor)
- The lectures were bad and the labs were good.» (Fair)
- I had high expectations for this course, but was disappointed. The simulation environment abstracts away far too much of what is present in a real operating system. Sometimes the algorithms/concepts themselves can be fairly simple, and the difficulty lies in making a correct and efficient implementation on real hardware.» (Fair)
- The lectures was not so good, so I did only attend some of them. Usually, in other courses I always go to the lectures, but this time it was not worth it.» (Adequate)
- The focus seems a bit all over the place» (Adequate)
- Really interesting course with a lot of nice things learned» (Good)

15. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The lab»
- Labs are nice, exciting and educating. Problem sessions was a really nice feature.»
- The assistant teacher Ionnis. The teacher that gave any help.»
- the labs»

16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- 1. The course goals say "modern" operating systems. However, we deal with OS"es as they looked in the 80"s. A friend borrowed his father"s book on operating systems. The book was from 1984 I believe, and the figures were the exact same - including figure numbers (!) - as the ones on the overhead pictures during lectures. I hardly believe operating systems haven"t changed for 30 years. Of course some fundamental concepts are the same, but I believe many things are outdated. 2. Another example is the hardware. How is relevant to learn exact algorithms for disk head movement in hard drives? First thing, this is controlled by the HDD driver/controller rather than the OS. Second, we haven"t even mentioned (that I am aware of) how an SSD works. In the lecture, the example HDD specs were from the 90s when a HDD could barely hold a few songs in todays standards. 3. Lastly, the lectures present interesting facts. However, that amount of information could be delivered in 25 minutes, meaning the low pace of a two hour lecture is görtråkigt.»
- Professor Lecture Slides »
- The lecturer or his way of teaching»
- Do something about the lectures and please convert overhead pictures to powerpoint. It is a great course with interesting material, please find a way to present it in a nicer way!»
- The teacher! He probably knows a lot, but neither I nor my friends gained anything from trying to listen to him on the lectures. It was like listen to some old tape. He was not even a little bit pedagogical! Also the labs should be renewed, they seemed way outdated! Also, the instructions for the second lab was very poor! It was more of a guessing experience than actually learning anything.»
- The labs. Make them more about the subject and less about how good the students are at implementing in C.»
- Change lab 2.1 and 2.2 to something more realistic.»
