- Too many books, unclear what to read» (Small extent)
- The amount of literature was overwhelming. It was hard to know what to focus on, since it"s not really possible to read it all...» (Some extent)
- In my opinion there has been too much litterature for this course. Several books and other litterature that was recomended and almost 10 cm thick bunch of papers. It would be easier as a student if you could focus on one book and maybe some papers.» (Some extent)

- Lecturers MUST be given more help and information about how to administer courses! The main lecturer did not know anything about the differences between the Chalmers and GU systems, did know anything about how TimeEdit and the block schedules are used, did not know anything about the course evaluation committee. The lecturer did a very admirable job in responding to our comments about these short comings (kudos to Torkar for being super-decent), but this kind of situation should not be allowed to occur. The university has to take responsibility!» (Very badly)
- Please use PingPong (if possible) and not personal web sites. Also, ensure that the examinator can reach all students via email (included in PingPong).» (Rather badly)
- There where very few handouts, and as a result it was very hard to test your own knowledge before the exam.» (Rather badly)
- Chalmers students were not able to find the homepage before the course started. This gave us no a chance of knowing what literature we needed so we could order it in time for the course start.» (Rather well)
- There was some sort of confusion regarding the course homepage in the beginning.» (Rather well)
- We had a minor problem at the beginning because there was no course home-page, but it was solved very quickly. » (Very well)

- Torkar was forthcoming, but actual workshops would have been better. » (Rather good)
- Teacher responded quickly and detailed through email and during class. » (Very good)

- There where no handouts and no old exams to practice on before the examination. We were simply provided with hundreds of pages of reading material and no info on which of it was relevant. Better opportunities to test your own knowledge of the course material are required next time, otherwise it will be very hard to study for the exam for reasons completely unrelated to the material.» (Poor)
- » (Poor)
- The course seems interesting.. in some extent. Could be a good subject in preparation for master thesis and if you want to work with research but otherwise i dont really know» (Poor)
- If you did the handin you were going to get 10% extra points on the exam. After the handin deadline this was changed to up the student one grade instead. It"s a bit unfair to change this after the deadline for the students who chose to not do the deadline. Also, this made it unfair for Chalmers vs GU students. A GU student that just passed got the highest grade (since they only have two grades) but the Chalmers students got only a 4. A fixed set of points or a percentage would"ve been better.» (Fair)
- It felt like we didn"t do that much, especially since I"m used to having lots of workshop sessions in other courses that contain maths.» (Adequate)
- Bra föreläsningar, bra föreläsare men det saknades kurspm och tydliga mål» (Adequate)
- It felt as if this should be a course given to researchers, not master students. » (Adequate)
- The statistic part is really good to solve survey research issues.» (Good)
- It seemed a little muddled in the beginning, but turned out rather good.» (Good)
- The teaching and the content of the course were great!» (Excellent)

14. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The teacher»
- Richard»
- Richard Torkar as the teacher. »
- Excellent lectures»
- Torkar is a good lecturer. The content of the course seems really reasonable. »
- Föreläsningarna och föreläsaren»
- Richard Torkar!»
- The lecturer was good, most of the time. Needs to practice teaching some more though.»
- assignment with bonus and Dr. Torka is has the active motion on the course. »
- Torkar, and his awesomely crude lectures.»
- I love the relaxed teaching style of Richard.»
- The lectures were quite good.»
- Everything except the assignment.»
- The oral lectures»
- Richard.»
- The assignment»
- lecture and literature study.»
- Richard"s lectures»

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Feedback on the hand-ins, access to homepage earlier, reading guidelines, recommended exercises.»
- scheduled time with supervisor for help with assignment»
- There should be more workshops and more hand-ins. There should be a hand-in for practicing writing research plans (like question 1 in the exam). The guy correcting our home assignments is a total disaster. He doesn"t respond to emails. No written feedback means that the assignment feels pretty much totally useless. »
- Kursadministrativa»
- Maybe more exercises, less reading.»
- More assignments with feedback. Feedback is key. Without it the students will have a hard time to progress. Maybe we could do "all" of the steps of an empirical research (but in a small scale)? That way the students would really get a feel for what it is. Possible group assignment?»
- Next time it is essential that you offer more old exams and/or excercises. These will enable students to test their knowledge of the course material, and serve as a guideline to what"s being tested. This time it was (in my opinion) unnecessarily hard to study for the exam because none of those things where available.»
- Give more lectures on solving questions on statistics knowledge.»
- More focus on given pedagogical lectures on the properties used in the course and less on bashing the research society.»
- Faster assignment turnaround, better / earlier guidance about the exam»
- a better presention of what the course really is about and what we are going to learn in the course. Find one or at most two books as course litterature. Should be clearer what to do each week and some more moments could be scheduled »
- I"m not sure if the readings really benefits the students. I hope next year this part could be improved.»
- Mandatory assignments would be very helpful »
- A course should never change the effects of assignments etc, throughout the course. Let everything be set at the beginning, or if truly necessary, change them so that everyone has time to react to them.»
- The homework should be changed in multiple assignments or a large group project. The difficulty of these assignments/project should be higher than the difficulty of this year"s assignment. Moreover, the exam"s difficulty should be increased.»
- The whole "any calculator" vs "no notes" thing.»
- It should be more general to research. Even though the math-part is pretty brief right now, it should take even lesser part in the course (especially since a fairly large part of the examination was math questinos). There are other math courses that covers these calculations. However, they should still be incorporated into the course as methods.»
- Better information overall, Course PM & Goals, correct the handins quicker.»
- Focus more on the hard parts (statistics) in lectures, as of now many things were rushed through or not explained.»
- The assignment with the articles should be split into several parts. Those hours we spent discussing them were very boring, it would have been better to dedicate some time of one class a week for example to this. Plus by the time we had this discussion it had been so long since I had read some of the articles I couldn"t remember what were they about.»
- Some of the articles seemed unnecessary. I would have liked more focus on statistical tests in the lectures.»
- additional assignment about practicing research methods and feedback of assignment»
- Maybe more assignments»

16. Additional comments

- Märktes att det var första kursen på ett tag i ämnet»
- Richard Torkar is one of the best lecturers I"ve ever had. How he makes statistics interesting is beyond me. Richard, if you"re reading this, kudos to you for making this work, and, if I could ever pick a professor to grab a beer with, you"d definitely be the guy. This course would probably have sucked heavily if it was led by someone else, so many thanks for making it work the way it did. In case you were wondering why you got an ovation in the end, it"s because everyone loved your style. Cheers.»
- Adding more content next year, as the examinator was proposing, is probably not a good idea. Instead, focus on doing a great course with the current material. Less is more.»
- Good course with calculation in practical situation.»
- I think the teacher is in a way a good lecturer and really knowing n this subject. Even though I find his lectures to be a discouragement as he often trash talks the research society. Its hard to find the fun in the course with this approach. The only thing I learned in this course is that i dont want to be a researcher. »
- In the beginning of the course we had an optional assignement that, when handed out, would give you a 10% bonus to the exam if you passed it. However towards the final week of the course, the lecturer changed his mind and decided that this assignment would instead raise your grade on the exam by a whole number. I never did that assignment because I felt that 10% wasn"t all that much, and I had quite a lot to do in my personal life then. I thought that I can probably get the grade I"m aiming for without those extra 10%. When the lecturer later changed the 10% to a whole raise in grade, I got very sad. If I had known this from the beginning when the assingment was handed out, I would have definetly done it. I do not think that doing such a thing should be acceptable.»
- One of my favourite courses. Good lectures, interesting content.»
