Learning outcomes and examination

Before you answer these questions, please check in the course syllabus what is stated about learning outcomes of the course.

1. Are the goals reasonable considering your background and the number of credits?

Yes, the goals seem reasonable»40 93%
No, the goals are set too high»2 4%

Genomsnitt: 2.02

- Actually, we neither have the final grade we got or the feedbacks about our final report so it"s hard to tell if the goals seem reasonable» (Yes, the goals seem reasonable)

2. To what extent have you reached the learning outcomes?

- Was a bit lazy this quarter so it"s mostly my own fault. » (60-80%)
- façades solutions» (60-80%)
- Stabilization» (60-80%)
- Stabilization » (60-80%)
- I hoped that we would go slightly deeper in structure design instead of concerning on sometimes boring parts as evaluation matrices. But it is only my opinion because I am an ex-change student with different background (more orientated in design). Now in course aimed in FEM I can see that swedish Chalmers students have excelent theoretical knowledge in Math, skilled in Matlab, but someone cannot use AutoCAD. I hoped in evaluation of structures more in detail. But generally I am satisfied.» (80-100%)

3. Did the examination assess whether you have reached the goals?

Please consider all kinds of examiantions during the course: assignments, projects, seminars, final written exam, etc.

- To some extant, though poorly so.» (To some extent)
- The time limit on the test was to little in my opinion» (To some extent)
- There where appallingly little time on the test (Dugga), you"re supposed to check knowledge, NOT outright speed. Otherwise I think it was balanced.» (To some extent)
- It is always hard to judge a group work, and when it is two or three out of a group of seven that do more than 90% of the project while the others don"t bother to show up, show up but are studying for the individual exam or just playing with their phones or on the computer the work loar accelerate to much to high» (To some extent)
- I think it was quite clear. Dugga in loads and final project (should be concerned more in detail, mainly in case of small or simply buildings).» (Yes, definitely)
- None» (Yes, definitely)

- But we should have been warned earlier about The hand in for the detail-drawings of the facade, connections etc» (Rather well)
- I think that some of the extra task given in the project work (e.g. the facade solution) should have been introduced earlier in the course and not been given one week before final presentation.» (Rather well)

- Sometimes not enough room (need for more smaller group rooms) and more computers» (Large extent)
- Computers in V-building are to slow, they just barley manage to open a simple PDF-file.» (Large extent)
- would be good to have access to the full eurocodes. I relied on my existing access to the British standards» (Large extent)
- In smaller grupp rooms we cannot control the ventilation which is sometimes too powerful.» (Great extent)

- About 50-70% but much much more tome than for a normal cours of 7,5 hp due to the uneven engagement from the group members in the project» (about 50%)
- project work took a lot time» (60-80%)
- 60%» (60-80%)
- I spend more in this course because project in structural systems was more interesting than durability of concrete, so it was pleasant time.» (60-80%)

42 svarande

Poor»0 0%
Fair»2 4%
Adequate»4 9%
Good»24 57%
Excellent»12 28%

Genomsnitt: 4.09

- Smaller groups to work in is preferable!» (Good)
- Good project and supervisor.» (Good)
- But have to do something about the groups, it"s not working, especially the exchange students since they are not used to work in groups, and some of them have big problems working with girs and can be very rude and ignorant» (Excellent)

12. What is the remaining value of the course in the future

43 svarande

Very small»0 0%
Rather small»2 4%
Neutral»7 16%
Rahter high»26 60%
Very high»8 18%

Genomsnitt: 3.93

- I am sorry, but I do not fully understand this question.» (Neutral)
- The course material is very well targeted to teach students some of the most important engineering principles and calculations and so will be used many times in practice in future» (Very high)

13. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Lectures with a wide variety of problems»
- exam.»
- Björn, Robert and The project work in itself»
- Group Projects»
- The group project is very good and an individual exam is very important to have to give student the opportunity to show their own abilities»
- Study trips in the first week»
- (Real) Project»
- Mixed groups »
- As it is»
- The Dugga exam. I have the feeling that the only thing I have learn is the things we have to study for the Dugga»
- The content of the course is very good.»
- the presentations»
- Björn Engström and Robert Kliger who can encourage us a lot. General presentation and conclusion was very nice. Also it was great impression for me that we worked in group. I am an exchange student and unfortunately we do not have this type of learning at my university. So it was great time and also experience for me.»
- Competition between groups - good motivation! »
- Study trip and project»
- Dugga»
- The project»
- The meetings with the supervisors»
- The proyect»
- The project »

14. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Examination: - Regular exam needs regular exams length - "Dugga" length should correspond to time needed for problem solving»
- The mid exam was far too short on time. It was generally considered to be unfair for everyone by most.»
- Make the course lasts for one semester, not one quarter, so students can have more time to digest and understand the course well.»
- The VHS lecture»
- The client/supervisor from industry is a fantastic idea which we don"t have in the UK. However, our supervisor seemed unsure about what he could and could not tell us about the project. So I think better clarity for the supervisors would be useful.»
- More possibilities to consult with the teachers»
- I think our group"s supervisor was not really too updated about how the project work should been carried out.»
- Better communication between different teachers and the other course. Too much is repeted in the lectures. Also some lectures have too low level. (For example introduction about building physics, complete waist of time for swedish studens (the lecture itself was good only too easy))»
- Organisation in project. »
- Change the dugga!! It was not enough time!! Did not get a fair result»
- the help given for the projects. I also feel that the projects were very unequally balanced some groups given just the outline or a one storey building whereas my project was very complex so with the amount of time given I do.not feel we produced what we could of with a less complex structure. I.hope that to some extent this will be taken into consideration when the final marks are given.»
- If possible, smaller groups in the project.»
- The test should receive more appropriate amount of time. either reduce the number of tasks or increase the amount of time. Thanks in advance»
- Please mention about possibility of preparation course in Matlab for international students. It started in first week in September and in case I had attend this classes I hope that I will have less problem with it now.»
- I"ve no idea.»
- More guide during teamwork in order to avoid losing time»
- Nothing»
- None»
