Plan experiments according to a proper experimental design. Choose the appropriate experimental design for different circumstances.

Analyse and evaluate experimental results properly according to different methods (ANOVA, regression ...)

Describe and apply fundamentals (in statistics and exp design) such as hypothesis testing, degrees of freedom, factorial design, and regression and so on according to course material.

Understand and apply fundamentals in multivariate data analysis (PCA and PLS).

- One might what to consider doing it one by one to avoid one teammember going ahead to much in the project and not leaving time or space for the less matlabtalanted such as me. Would definitely have grasped the concept just need a couple of seconds more» (OK)
- It was an interesting project, BUT very annoying that when we were done with pilot plant and had found an optimum we had to start all over again with the production plant. The results from the pilot plant couldn"t be used. It felt like we had wasted 4 weeks achieving nothing.» (OK)
- Very good project, shows how it should be done but unfortunatly also shows that the calculation in this cource should be done on a computer.» (Very good)

- It was held to late and I just did the project in a panic without being able to get much from the project.» (Bad)
- Fun little project, the program was a bit hard to understand and the 140-page "training" document was not very useful.» (OK)
- Best part of the course, very interesting, but more challenging to absorb the concept in such short time. Would have liked a small part the include some heads up for what peole can do to manipulat statistics as well and how to look at it with critical eyes.» (OK)
- Understandment would have been better if more preparative lectures was given. More supervisors are needed, one isn"t enough.» (OK)
- Why can"t you have the MVDA-project in the middle of the coures, now it got to close to the exam» (OK)
- It was very good with the oral presentations but i could have been even better if different data was handed out to each group since that was the hard part mainly. » (OK)

- Lecture = good, Exercise = did not always hear what he said, but I think that were because he did not talk that clearly.» (OK)
- Claes, and the three project-teachers were very good, but the teacher on the exercises was hard to understand.» (Good)

- Carl-Johan seemed nervous. It"s very hard to hear what Mohammad i saying. His accent is not a big problem as is his quiet voice. And he talks to the board instead of to the students.» (Good)

- The optimization project was fun and I got a more clear picture of what experimental design was about. Take some time in the end to summarize what has been done, what you need to take with you to the exam.»
- The optimization project was good, although it might be nice to skip the multi variate project and have the optimization project at a later time. In this way you might have a chance to learn/hear of some of the methods used in the project and thus get more out from it. »

22. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- No, all are very well done.»
- Please, update the solutions for the old exams to a computer written document. It is very hard to read what is written and you have to spend a lot of time just to try to see what the text says.»
- Fewer questions on the exam. We did not have enough time for all of them and time should not be the main reason for not being able to answer a question.»
- Please, scan the solutions and add them to the homepage. We are adults and in response of our own performance and can handle having them online without abusing them.»
- The ability to get help. The only opportunity we had to ask our questions was after the lectures, and when we asked questions Claes couldn"t answer them. It felt like he wouldn"t be able to solve the problems if he tried either.»
- Excercise teacher who always hurried through the material and ended the excercise 30 minutes before scheduled instead of properly explaining what he actually was doing.»
- I would like it to be "räknestugor".»
- The compendium with exercises had really, really bad answers to the questions, most of the time it was hard understanding what was asked of you.»
- More supervisors for the MVDA-project since one isn"t enough. There wasn"t time for all questions, and if you get the opportunity to ask your questions you will learn more.»
- The final should be smaller, less questions since the tasks take a long time to calculate and answer. »
- Maybe MVDA. It has been seen so superficially review, that you don"t really get to know it and I feel I have been losing my time.»
- It would be good to have some "räknestugor". Sure the exercises were to some help but it would be better if we could do the exercises ourselves and if needed, ask for help. It felt like we couldn"t get any help. The solutions guide is not complete and very poor and even the teachers didn"t know the solutions for the exercises. »
- That the pdfs on the webpage actually shows all the mathematical symbols, that the class excercises are a bit more focused on learning than just writing on the board, more examples in the lectures»
- Not really but more on tutorials especially the software used for the project as compared to most of the Swedish counterpart who already had previous knowledge on the usage of theses programs or software. Also, i think more exposure or explanation on the Multivariate Data Analysis.»

- I feel that the project is unfair to certain students. In my case, it is hard to get profit since our margin of experiment is small. My partner and I need to get a very accurate variables in order to get profit. Unlike some students could easily get profit, and thus their number of experiment also less, ensure a high ranking in groups performance. The hardness of the project among students should be the same.»
- I think that the exercise compendium should have been handed out during the first week of the course (instead of at the end of week 2), since the workload during the last weeks was high enough as it was with the two projects. I also think that the exam questions should have been formulated in a way that made it possible to complete all of them in time. Furthermore, there were one or two questions in the exam that had not been treated during the lectures, and therefore were a bit too hard in my opinion.»
- Do more difficult problems in class.»
- Shorter exam! Impossible do solve all those questions in 5 hours.»
- tell how to from just y data how to calculate the coaficents for he whole equation because this was very common in the exam but not common in the exersises, and also how to analyse the residuals.»
- The recommended exercises and the exam was on diffrent levels. The things you calculate in the recommended exercises differed a lot from the tasks in the exam»
- Give more examples how to calculate ANOVA in the beginning - it is simple but I didn"t get that since it is so much work. The book generally don"t give general formels for calculation but just for specific examples. Good if Claes adds general formels to the lecture notes. »
- Clearer explenations of examples, not just some excercises gone through at a high pace without much time taken to explain what is actually going on. Clearer demands for what is expected of one in the exam. Overall clearer, during the lectures I got the feeling that everthing was considered to be quite obvious which caused me to be confused about a lot of basic terms and principles which I later had troubles clearing up. »

- I am satisfied with the course attended.»
- It felt like the teacher sometimes did not know the answer to our questions. I have heard that this is not "his subject" but in that case someone else should teach this course.»
- The exam was too big! It was too many calculations to be made during the five hours. If you don"t pass the exam it should be because you can"t answer the questions, not that you don"t have the time to solve them.»
- some of the problems for this course felt more like getting your calculations in your calculator right, than understanding the principle behind the problem. it annoyed me that you could do the problem entirely right when entering a plus sign or a minus sign wrongly in the calculator just messed up the whole problem. and they take long to solve.»
- All and all a really good course, I am suprised that it is not mandatory for all masters.»
- On the whole i think the course was good for those that would be involve in experiments.»
- It would have been helpful with solutions to all example problems, and maybe a list with recommended wxample problems to calculate at home.»
- Claes is easy to listen to and make things pretty clear, but try to slow down a bit and explain new concepts properly. For example, I were a big questionmark the first time Claes wrote a matrix with effects algebraic signs.»
