-- Deliverables and seminars --

6. What did you think about using the LIPS model for deliverables

- Good model but did not quite suit our case»
- Not very applicable to our project, but it I think it would be good to use within a company for example»
- silly, it is for product developement project, not for a planning report. A better model could be chosen. »
- Not useful or educational»
- not perfect suitable for our kind of project, but good to have a frame to follow. maybe one could skip some of the deliverbles.»
- Ok, but it was sometimes not applicable»
- it was instresting to learn the model, we had to adapt it a bit to our project»
- The lips documents took a lot of time. It is a quite general method so as long as you know how to adapt your own project to the method, it works fine!»
- Some deliverables are repeatable. Some deliverables need to be give some explain during the lecture. The others are good.»
- Ok»
- LIPS model is quite limited and once you stuck on it you can"t think outside the box. I think it could be given as a guide but be clear for students that they do not have to follow each parts of it.»
- Good with information about each subject but didn"t fit the project that the group did. It needed to be restructered in order to fit. Older versions of project models during the time at Chalmers was used were better to follow but information in the LIPS model about each subject e.g. time plan, time reports etc. was great. »
- It is good with a structured way of working, but sometimes the deliverables actually did not help the project. It was from time to time more focus on writing text under the headlines in the templates than thinking about what was needed for the projects progress. Also I think that LIPS did not promote us to search for and use theories. There is no "theory chapter" as it usually is in an academic report. All in all it was good using a project model, but LIPS is not very good for these kinds of projects.»
- It was not rly applicable on our project and we had to change quite much, but it was good to have something to start work from.»
- It"s good to have some structure.»
- Good to use a model but maybe not Lips for other porjects than product development»
- where not in time with the project and has to be flexible I like the milestone thinking though »
- Should NOT be used another time. It rather made things complicated then helping. Seems not to fit our type of project. Many chapters just had to be left out, the rest adapted. By just sticking to the Lips Model, you block creativity, slow the progress and get a bad outcome. It is way better to just have general guidelines and then let the groups work in their own way. Some deliverables are ok, but with the Lips deliverables we sometimes had no idea how to put them...»

7. What did you think about the course book the Reflective Practitioner by Donald Schön

- A bit hard to read and not so distinct in its outcome.»
- ok»
- outdated, an important subject but no. No. That is not a good way to learn about it. »
- Horrible. Very difficult to understand. »
- quite hard to read and understand, but the overall impression was quite good. »
- it was a hard book to read, but it was intresting»
- i liked this part, it got me thinking in a new way!!!»
- Interesting!»
- It is difficult to read.»
- I did not like it very much. It was too old fashioned and did not feel adapted to a technical project course.»
- Svårläst och inte lika givande»
- I think a summary of this book as a compulsory lecture and a seminary afterwards could save much more time for students.»
- Good book with good information. Discussion class made the book even clearer and gave good advices for future work. »
- Interesting subject, but there must be newer literature about the same thing? It is a very long book for saying not very much.»
- It was hard to read and a bit to long. And I think it was bad decision that we were supposed to read the whole book at once, it should instead be devided perhaps that we start with 1/3 of the book, have a seminar so we can see what is expected of us and then have the rest of the book on another seminar.»
- Quite much "up in the clouds". A lot of repetition. Too expensive for it"s content.»
- Ok»
- Intresting in a way but if there are any more uppdated litterature then that would be nice»
- It is not useful. Just a lot of text with not so much content. Didn"t give any practical knowledge to keep in mind. Many things were pretty natural.»

- More about the process of learning.» (Not at all)
- Would be better if all answered the questions writtenly for better involvement.» (Acceptable)
- I dont know if the seminar increased my understanding of engineering problem solving, everyone just repeated what I had already read in the book.» (Acceptable)
- seminary idea is very useful and there should be more opportunities for students to discuss with each other. Just try to choose more up-to-date books and topics.» (To some extent)
- It was more of an description of how problem solving works. It doesn"t help in the problem solving itself. But gave some better understanding of that we all reflect differently.» (To some extent)
- The seminar was very good. 10 times better than the book.» (Yes very much)

9. To what extent did the presentation seminar contribute in giving you good feedback for you planning report

- Oppositions were great with good suggestions on how to make the planning report even better. » (Very much)

- Only the lecture of Mats was really useful, giving another perspective: that LIPS is not that suitable for us and that we have to adapt it. The other lectures did not give me much. Especially Bertil"s lectures need pedagogical adaption - powerpoint and social interaction.» (Small extent)
- I used my previous experiences for this project. The project itself gave me new experiences but I don"t think that lectures helped me to do a better project. Some of lectures were still quite interesting, especially the one about sustainability.» (Some extent)
- Presentation technique is of course important, but after 4 years at chalmers, giving presentations every now and then, it feels like we know how to do it. About the sustainability lecture: The lecturer begins the lecture by saying something like "bearing in mind the areas of your projects, this lecture might not be that relevant for you, but we will go on anyway!". That sentence did not make me more interested. And also, the lecture is "justified" by an explanation that in every course at chalmers, sustainability must be considered. One lecture I liked was the one about writing the report. That was the first time I understood that we did not have to follow LIPS as much as we did.» (Some extent)
- It feels like the guest seminar, the guy from U.S that lived in Denmark had some interesting thoughts but it was not rly applicable in our projects, it felt more like curiosities. » (Some extent)
- Team dynamics was good.» (Some extent)

13. Evaluation of cource team and lectures

Matrisfråga

- I did not like that Bertil reprimanded the attending students because he felt that the attendance was low. This disappointment was really misdirected onto the attending students. Either make the lectures compulsory or accept that the students are free to skip them. Maybe a given share of the lectures could be compulsory? For example 3 out of 5. Other than that, well done in planning this course! It has been very educative and interesting.»
- Bertil should learn to listen and not interrupt students and other lecturers. He must learn to show appreciation to other kind of opinions then his owns. »
- It is a no-go to openly offend a student personally in the course (Bertil). Seems like a lack of ability to handle criticism. Also the lectures were poor from a pedagogical perspective. (a lot of text on powerpoint - copied from the book - and making students just read)»

Take everyone out for a BBQ at the start of the first semester, a better welcoming could be good. I still dont know who is in my class. At the QOM-master they spended one week(!) having fun before starting to study. »
- Nothing big needs to be changed only small structures in the respective course. »
- the courses are overlapping too much this needs to be check and the sustainability aspect has to be improved. You get the feeling that we have to include it because chalmers say so... Its not a natural part yet. It should be though...»
- Less overlapping between courses. Better course organization in some courses, less "chaos". Include a management course for leadership skills (social, psychological aspects etc.)»

- I like it at chalmers, but i am concerned about my education and the future students and reputation. It must be difficult and useful to be of good value. »
