Overall impression

Content

1. What was your overall sense of the content of the course?

- Interesting and Gun »
- I did not learn anything. And the content was not at all what I had expected. You seem to focus more on projectmanagement then international business relationship. If I wanted to learn that I would had signed up for the project management course.»
- I was good, but I expected to get more tools in order to handle international business relationship, e.g. focusing on some different countries and see how they differ and how these issues could be managed.»
- what we learnt on the interviews gave the course relevance, however the course layout and lack of delivery of material was demotivational. An actual lecture delivered by the course lecturer would have been interesting or seminar or workshop delivered by someone based on the subject we were studying...anything along those lines would have really helped with overall motivation for the course»
- The content is very good. It covers many important aspects of Inter Business.»
- I was happily surprised witht the learning I achieved in the course and the way we solved the different problems we had to face»
- as this course was a trial run, it seemed to be extremely disorganized. Clearer goals should have been set in terms of outcome.»
- Good, but more lectures will be beneficial. Although students did learn by doing.»
- OK»
- Little lecture,a lot of work»
- Feeling as if we had to learn everything by ourselves, motivation was not stimulated during the course»
- It"s about culture, business, communication, and so on. It"s a more soft topic in the management area.»
- Slightly un-structured and a little messy. However, very interesting topic. But would have wanted to see more focus on the actual international aspect, the differences between handling an international vs. a national relationship. »

- Nothing workt during this course. How can you apoint students to communicate (and obviously studets that are not good at communicating). All "communication" was via the steeringroup and wikispaces... I think that is irresponible. Email all info to everyone!!» (1)
- It was ironic how poor the communication was» (2)
- some direct communication within knowledgable information was missing, steering group tried their best even though they did not perform very well cause of lack of experience» (2)
- Ping pong was used as platform, but not really used at all. Wikispaces, as was the responsibility of the steering group did not really work well at all. » (2)
- It could have been more clear for the course content (grading, lectures, deadlines, interviews.....) at the very beginning.» (3)
- Wikispace is really not a so good platform» (4)

3. What is your opinion regarding the organization of the course, with regard to having a steering group?

It was a bad idea to have a steering group»1 6%
It could have been possible also without the steering group»6 40%
It was a good idea to have a steering group»8 53%

- See above. If I wanted to learn project management I would have signed up for that course. The steering groups were not persons with leading capabilities and just created more confusion. We basically had to steear the steering group. » (It was a bad idea to have a steering group)
- IT took about 2 weeks for the research group to know what to do after waiting the formation of sterrign group.» (It could have been possible also without the steering group)
- Steering group was not always clear, they changed their minds in the last minute etc. They could"ve had a better plan for the end-presentation for example, it was very unclear what was valid. And the last version came out too late. And then they didn"t even use it. First they said: No template on the ppt. Then they said: Do your own template. Then they changed it to their own template. And in the end: they showed it with no template. Confusing and unstructured.» (It could have been possible also without the steering group)
- The work load was not very heavy for the groups, hence I believe that the groups through the group leaders could have made the coordination and through better understanding of the topics have combined the report to a better entity. » (It could have been possible also without the steering group)
- It was a good idea having a steering group, but I would have preferred that the teachers were the steering group instead.» (It was a good idea to have a steering group)
- Although leaving EVERYTHING up to them was rediculous» (It was a good idea to have a steering group)

- When questions were asked for example " can you explain more about the suject of interdependence" you started to namedrop titles of the articles... Not really a relevant answer.» (1)
- Wasn"t very inspiring or motivational» (2)
- Project was vague at the beginning and gradually became to be known by everyone. One problem could be traced to the problem itself which was not easy to explain. But it can be improved.» (2)
- Good» (3)
- The session in itself was ok but a lot of information to process and also kind of unclear. A lot of information was not actually realized by the students until after several weeks. » (3)
- Good overview of the course methodology and how to face the course» (5)

- This is my very personal opinion. I believe that it was giving and necessary for some students, perhaps that are not from industrial engineering and have less experience in case studies and writing. But for me it didn"t provide anything new. » (1)

- I have not learned anything. » (1)
- Course title was impressive, delivery was passive, involvement was high and motivation amognst the team was high but class delivery was poor and deliverables were poorly communicated, affecting overall enjoyment of the course» (2)
- I wanted to travel and meet other cultures to discuss face-to-face differences between cultures. I got this info from you guys before we elected courses. I thought it was one of the main points of the course» (2)
- I thought it would be more emphasis on the international implications and that we would interact with some international contacts. Also that we would get two sides of the relationship i.e. interact with e.g. suppliers as well. » (2)
- It would be better to have some lectures as background. It can be guest lectures as well.» (3)
- I expect more lectures» (4)

11. How do you think the course could have been improved in order to meet your expectations?

- More lectures about the different frameworks. More expectations on the students. It is not so that you have more students from different institiutions than in other courses. Make the lecures mandatory and also set expectations on the seminars.»
- åI would like to get more tools that can use in the future to handle international business relationship. What I learned from the course was that there are implications with international relationships, but not really how to handle them.»
- Address the communication issue, involve more speakers to increase motivation and highlight relevance of tasks »
- Just have more lectures regarding to theory»
- The course has given me a good overview of bussines relationships»
- Not only have Swedish interviewees. Not just 3 people traveling.»
- May be more interviews can be conducted if time allows»
- To be clear and brief when addressing the message, saying "this is exactly what we want you to do".»
- see above»

12. How much time did you dedicate to the course?

15 svarande

More than what I had expected»7 46%
As I had expected»4 26%
Less than what I had expected»4 26%
No opinion»0

Genomsnitt: 1.8

- However I never mind dedicating time to assignments or deliverables. What I don"t like is spending time on something, spending long hours getting it right and then all we need to submit is a tiny piece that poorly represents the effort made. » (More than what I had expected)

13. What elements of the course should remain for the next year?

- Interviews is good but with relevant people. »
- Good to visit a company.»
- Trip, combined report, interesting topic»
- collect raw data»
- Colaboration with companies»
- The class-wide project should remain.»
- division to themes steering group»
- the seminars, group leader meetings»
- The theory linkage to RQ and interview was good.»
- Most of the elements such as project work, lectures as well as interviews»
- interviews»
- Seminars, group leaders, »

14. Was there anything missing in the course?

- A lot! Structure, knowledge, lectures, relevant people to interview, individual work...»
- interesting lectures relating to the subject»
-
- More guests-lectures and more companies»
- Clear organization»
- Interaction with intentional business people.»
- Nothing much I think»
- The misunderstanding and lack of communication with the focal company was the main problem the lead to delays for everything. Since "international business relationships" is such a broad topic, there could be more lectures and give students some ideas.»
- Insight in suppliers" view on the relationships. »

15. What needs to be changed in the course?

- basically everything. I belive that the overall purpose is good but as it is now it is not working at all.»
- I think there should be more guest lectures from different companies so that we get input from different perspectives. I also would like to have one lecture regarding each theme. It was a new way of working for me with this large project. However, I think one way of carrying out the course could be that each group study one company and write a complete smaller report of the particular company. Then the final presentation could provide the student with different angles and standpoint on how different companies work with international relationships.»
- All aspects mentioned up until this point»
- more structure at the beginnning»
- More previous information and background to start our case of study»
- The interviews for the project should be set well in advance OR we should be allowed to choose who to interview.»
- more lectures about theory»
- The steering group could be selected by random instead. more lectures and workshops maybe. more individual assignments, now it was uneven in the group how much each person did.»
- It is very difficult for five groups working on a single case. Working separately can be another option to distribute the risks of having late interviews.»
- Better coordination between the groups. Not performing interviews on all topics since u have insignificant knowledge in the other topics»

16. What was the biggest outcome of this course for you?

- I have not learned anyting.»
- What we learnt at the interviews and the enjoyment of workiing on the interview afterwards and beforehand»
- learning cultural difference within the group and also from teh company perspective»
- To understand how bussines works in the full structure»
- n/a»
- Teamwork»
- qualitative approach is just possible when more than one position of intervieewes is included (we should have included suppliers or customers or other companies) to get a result about Volvo trucks IBRs»
- interesting subject and theory linking to the interview was good.»
- This is the first time I conducted such as qualitative research. I learnt the way to do it. How to interact with people during interview»
- To communicate and work with different people.»
- The insights about how Volvo considers cultural issues and implications even though not at all times aware of it. »

17. Any other input or suggestions that you have in relation to the course:

- Make sure that you have the course planed and structured before the course starts. »
