- The whole course content is based on a book, so... But I was not too happy with the book, it was too wordy and there were not enough illustrations. That"s not bad in general, but for this particular subject it is, lengthy descriptions of "and then happens this, and then happens this, and then happens that" are quite boring to read. Also, for a book that is supposed to give insight into a specific implementation, there were too little code references, i.e. hints were to look if one is interested to read the code to get a better understanding. I would have expected to get much more reference to the actual code and to be given more code examples. » (Large extent)

- But it was not enough dispatch on the period. Much work at the end and nothing to do at the begining.» (Adequate)
- I was rather unhappy with the way the lab was structured, all but the last subtask were trivial and took no time at all, and then the last subtask took four times as much time as all other tasks together. That was completely unexpected and threw me off my schedule. Apart from that, the workload was fine.» (Adequate)

- I already gave my opinion on the lectures and the book above. I was mostly disappointed by the labs, they did not really have much to do with the course, but instead were more of an introduction to Linux/Unix, which I think is very unreasonable for a course which covers kernel internals. Something like writing a small kernel module or analysing a part of the kernel code would have been fun. I literally learned nothing from the labs.» (Poor)

15. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The content of the lectures»

16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- I know this was the last year this course was given, but if there should be a new course with similar goals, I would appreciate one with a lab that actually has something to do with kernel internals. Also, a newer version of Unix/Linux would be nice to study, it was quite hard to get the source code for such an old BSD version. And the ports mostly don"t work with such an old version anymore. Finally, I would have preferred to work closer to the code. I would not have chosen this course, if I was not already a proficient coder and linux user, but in hindsight I don"t think I was in the target group for this course.»
- Add something about the approx. time for doing the labs»

17. Additional comments

- I think it is a bad idea to stop offering this course. It is a vital course especially to us international students who come from countries where courses in linux/unix are not offered at all. Otherwise the course was very good, I really came to learn a lot»
