13. Comments regarding teaching and course administration

- I liked that they had first 2 lecture and then one exercise. »
- Be more specified what needs to be done. Be more specific what we need to know for the exam, now I had no idea what the course were about until the last few weeks. »
- The course was interesting but handled verry sloppy. The slides were very much in english even though one third of the students were english speeking. The solutions to the excercises were in some cases poorly written and it is really frustrating to study for an exam and not have any good solutions to compare with. In the final exam the points granted for each question seemed pretty random. A large calculation exercise gave 5 points while a rather "easy" or "small" theory excersise gave 8 points. It is hard to eveluate which question to put more effort into. To put 10 points on LIDAR which was quickly mentioned on the last lecture is not fair. Maybe 5 or so but not 10.»
- Hard, or impossible, to get hold of answers to exercises and old exams. the course could have been much easier if answers were available. It seems like the teachers made the course more difficult then what it could have been if answers were provided. It is hard to find how to calculate stuff in the material.»

19. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The laboratory exercises which provided a much better understanding of the principles involved.»
- Laboration, Johan, Donal and Joachim»
- Course content seems to be good and relevant. The laboratories were good and rather interesting.»

20. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Significantly better prepared course material. A large portion of the slides, which acted as the only course material were in swedish and it took quite some time before the translations were made and submitted to the student portal. There was also a huge inconsistency between the mathematical language used by the three lecturers, for instance, several common symbols were frequently used for very similiar, but not equal properties. The greek letter tau meant both transmittivity and optical thickness throughout the course and sigma indicated both path difference and absorpion cross-section (as well as the Stefan-Bolzmann constant). »
- We need more solved problems with full solutions, just putting up questions and no answers on the course website does not help at all when studying at home.»
- One booklet with all the lecture and that the slides are in english, not that some of them in Swedish. And even if there are Swedish slides, change them before putting them on the homepage.»
- You need to make this to one course and not three. The best would be a course compendium containing everything that is necessary during the course.»
- Put more effort into the administrative stuff, show the students that you actually care about the course. The solutions for our exam is a joke, you might as well not even put out a solution if you are going to refer to the lectures anyway. »
- Teachers provide answers to exercises and ols exams. Better administration of course home page, not all material, especially the exercises, were uploaded quick enough. Faster correcting of lab reports and exam. »
