- Värdelösa lektioner, helt obegriplig engelska och alldeles för röriga genomgångar. Läraren höll inte måttet, på mastersnivå kan man förvänta sig bra mycket mer! Övningsledarna däremot gjorde ett mycket bra jobb, tydliga och med stor vilja att förstå elevernas frågeställningar.» (Small extent)
- This is ofcourse a matter of taste, but OH-slides can only go so far :). A thing that could live things up a bit is examples on applications - pictures and the like. Since the course is very much a theoretical mathematical systems course it would be nice to see a stronger connection to reality.» (Some extent)

- The course book is more of a dictionary than a textbook. Often it feels like it demands that you already know the stuff they"re talking about. So it"s not that good for learning.» (Some extent)

- Must find a better system for how to provide the material to the students. Not being able to print the handouts if you missed a lecture is not acceptable.» (Rather badly)

- Number of assignments was just enough, I mean 3 was excellent, and I"m happy that assignment 4 was canceled. Also, the number of lab assignments was quite all right.» (Adequate)

- The course didn"t give the big picture of what we were doing. To much focus on the details, which could be good. But there would help with some more applications of the theory.» (Poor)
- There was no real connection with the learning goals in the lectures. The lectures consisted of a lot of mathematical proofs with little or no overview of the concepts.» (Fair)

- 1-Labs (really great, provided me with the opportunity to actually SEE how my controllers work) 2-Handouts , lecture notes(perfect aid for learning, since we can only focus on the lecturer"s speech) 3-Course PM, it gave a really clear picture of the whole course. 4- All of the teacher assistants were great, they really knew the material, and they were smart and very welcoming. 5-Assignments, they provided a good opportunity to review and the get a better picture of the material, as well as working in a group and having useful discussions. 6-Tutorial sessions(for the projects) and exercise sessions were absolutely helpful.»

- The Assignment were good for the personal learning but I think there should be more schedueled time for questions and help. The laboration preparations were very hard because we had not talked about the topics that were inculded in this preparation. It would be better if there was one some scheduled time for this too.»

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Claes Breitholtz, his extremely slow and poor english was my major annoyance throughout the whole course.»

- You need to change exam rules. The examination rules are crazy, sorry to say that. it"s absolutely insane to expect us students not to write notes in the book. When we write notes, that means we study, we understand , and we learn, and this is the ultimate goal of Chalmers University of technology. it"s there to help us learn, understand, and then create. Please do not destroy the Chalmers" reputation by these rules. When we write in the boom it"s not about cheating, we are smart enough to solve the problems. PLease remember that. It was a very insulting moment for me today, when I had to ask other students to lend me their book, I felt like begging. The other thing is that we must have this write to use any calculator that we want. please notice that even the most advanced calculators in the world, only give the FINAL ANSWER, but we know that it the SOLUTION that will receive the points, not the Final answer with no solution. I had to waste like 200 SEK to buy a new calculator, just because it was Chalmers approved, and my old one was not. Yes, in some exams you can"t have any book or notes, so someone might want to store formulas in the calculator,so it should be banned to have advanced calculators then. but when it"s an open book exam, and all formulas, solved examples,.... are in it, what does it mean to say YOU CANT USE YOUR OLD CALCULATOR, YOU SHOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE? Bottom line: PLease update the rules, they are outdated, and OFFENDING. »

- Maybe it"s a good idea to explain further why we need these things and use more practical examples. I"m not sure how that could be implemented but a guest lecturer or someone from the institution maybe could talk a bit about a project where kalman filters and feed back controllers where used. »

- The book was allowed on the exam. As the book is quite difficult to use as a summary, a set of equations or a self-compiled "cheat-sheet" would provide better support, whilst helping with the learning before the exam.»

- The nature of the hand ins. Again, this is a personal opinion but i find that you learn more when you formalize your results in text, because of this the "hand ins" should also include a written technical report as it does in most other courses. IMPORTANT: Clearify what applies on the exam!!! On several occasions during the lectures Claes stated that it was not OK to write equations in the course book, but "ok" to write notes like "se equation .... on page .... ". This was obviously not anything that the examination administration had been informed with, and consequently, if you had notes like this in your book you had the choice of either taking the discussion with the guards then and there, which you would not win, or proceeding in taking the exam without the book which presents you with some problems. So a recomendation until next year: Either you say that nothing is allowed, or that notes are allowed, no matter in what form, otherwise you end up in this situation. One can also question what purpose the "no equations in the book" rule had. The entire course exept the part on dynamic programming is in it already, so there is really no way to cheat by writing up stuff that you are not allowed to have. Maybe you should consider a table of equations and no book as an alternative? »

- The course needs more actual multivariable controller design. The literature doesn"t tell anything about I and D-controllers. A complementary text is therefore needed (more than the lecture notes). Try to speed up the lectures would also be appreciated. »

- Sadly the lecturer had poor english skills. This made the lectures inefficient. »
- I was very distracted when the course books were examined during the exam. I think it is good that they were examined but maybe it could have been done half an hour before the exam or somethink like that. Writing an exam is allready stressful and this interruption made it even more stressful. »
