Your own effort

1. Think of the course content, list 3 good things!

- Public-speach lecture.»
- Good to apply theoretical knowledge on a "real" company. The practice of presentation. Individual term paper.»
- The seminars in the SCM and Purchasing Courses were good for the learning. Learning to search in the library database was good.»
- 1: The HC-visits, but we did not meet the right all the people at the right occasion, some of the guy’,s we meet during the last visit would be better to meet during the first one. 2: The presentation lecture was good but I did not learn anything new also the lecture with the guy from the library might have been good for those who have not studied at Chalmers before and did not already know how to search for information. 3: The tutoring for the term paper»
- Integration with the host companies, get to see the real world which is very good! One individual paper - gives good feedback since you have to make sure you have all the strengths yourself. You can´,t rely on someone else.»
- 1, The whole idea with having a host company and get the ability to see how the theories are applied in real life 2, The term paper. It was very nice to have an individual task.»
- Term paper Presentation seminar Host company interviews »
- The host company concept the individual task (term paper) The team-work between the students»
- Our visits at our host company, the presentation technique lecture/seminar and the case competition!»
- The host company seminar. The 2 host company"s visits.»
- company visits presentation skills host company visits »
- Tools for further research, Seminars, Host Company»
- Contact with host company, term paper presentation, final presentatioN»
- Learn how to write a scientific paper. The host company: it is very good to get in contact with the business reality. The term paper presentation session: it allowed to learn very much from the other presentations.»
- It"s good to know how to design a report. It is a good individual assignment to write a term paper, which makes all students to really work without being dependent/depend on other students. That is the only good thing about this course.»
- - a lot of new information - new look at writing the dissertation - useful hints how to prepare a presentation»
- Getting to know a company. »
- Practice presentation skills Preparation for master thesis Dynamic group work»
- Lecture about presentation skills Interesting host companies from different businesses»
- - The case competition with accenture - The lecture about presentation technique - The host company interviews and seminar »
- host company »

2. Once again, think of the course content, list 3 bad things!

- No grade, just pass-fail = minimize work just to pass.»
- Individual term paper should be done later in the program so that the students could use it as a preparation for their master thesis. This would also allow them to choose from a broader list of topics. Doing the methodology chapter after the actual report is finished seems a little strange, these should be done in parallel. Need more cooperation with the other courses to make the workload more even over the periods.»
- 1: The method lecture and seminar 3. For example when the lecturer says that something is basic knowledge she should be able to explain the difference between the two concepts and she should be prepared so she knows what on the slide and do not have to read what the slide says. 2: All the late information. For example according to the syllabus we did not think we had to add something in the HC-report during RP2. 3: The feedback regarding the first hand in of the HC-report was supposed to be a opponent report but we only got more or less a corrected report back from the lecturer. It was not feedback, it was more, it should be like this not like you have done. »
- Hand-ins in the exam period, I always focuses on the exam given that choice which gives a lower overall performance. That it´,s a pass/fail course -> don´,t really care much about the course. Writing reports and presenting most things twice, ones for the term paper course and one for the other courses.»
- 1, The communication between the courses has been horrible. Almost every week there were messages about rescheduling. 2, The communication with the host companies. I think that all meetings should have been set from day one so we don"t have to wait several weeks before we have a set date for the meating. For several groups this lead to that they only had a couple of days to wright the report. Also I don"t like the attitude that course responsible had about this, they wasn"t understanding at all that wee have other tasks to do and the time is limited. 3, the lecture about methods, PLEASE have a lecture that is adopted to engineers and not painter. have relevant information and a clear disposal. I think that many of us didn"t understand anything and the course responsible couldn"t answer several of our questions»
- Methology seminar !!! Not helpful at all ! All other seminars than the presentation seminar »
- The lack of or insufficient coordination between the organisation and pupils. The lack of coordination between the different courses and TPS (we had to present the same thing several times). The course added a lot to the overall workload of the reading periods, which resulted in a overall lower outcome in all the cases and the results on the exams. Since the course dont provide any credit points (but still takes points away from the other courses), you tried to put more effort on the courses that were providing credit points »
- The termpaper was really bad, just teach us how to write a scientific report and don"t make such a big deal about it being perfect, sometimes it feels like you are just messing with us when we got enough to think about in the other courses. The feedback on the termpaper was bad and very vague. We basically had to guess what you wanted us to change. Be clearer! It very non-motivating when it"s only a pass and fail course and we don"t get anything back from writing this paper but bad critics and rewrites. »
- The method chapter seminar. »
- method chapter didn"t feel adequate for the host company reports, and wasn"t even included in "second final report" the lectures were not that interesting better coordination with other courses »
- Time, following and (sometimes) schedule»
- Coordination with other courses, lectures that were mandatory that many had at least twice eg method, presentation, library etc., no grading gives no incentives for term paper»
- There were too many host comapany seminars during the two reading periods, despite the fact that the subjects were different. Sometimes, the deadlines to hand-in the reports could be schedule in a different date (earlier or later) in order not to conflict with other assignments.»
- I can probably list a hundred bad things, but let"s pick three then. 1. The course was very blurry in the sense that lectures were moved and there was always question marks about something. It didn"t feel like you had it all under control since you couldn"t really respond to all questions addressed. Nobody understood why we had this course the first weeks since it"s very hard to grasp that we are actually having a class in how to make a report! Fourth year on a university, everybody should know how the structure should look like, and if you are using the Harvard system, this can be googled in 5 minutes! 2. The assignments were a joke and took to much time. There was too many case studies that took too much time. This course came in third place so at least my group put in the least amount of effort since it was just P/F. 3. This is personal to you Benedikte, but take it in the right way. You have to be better at making your points when having lectures. Your pedagogy could be improved greatly and also how you structure the lessons. Also, four hours straight lectures? You could at least divide them in two and have them in two days since it wasn"t that many lectures.»
- - the deadlines were not adjusted with other courses so well - sometimes too theoretical - sometimes tough to grasp »
- The outline of the course (including timeline). It was more quantity rather than quality of the work done. »
- Bad structure Badly synchronized with other courses Some really unnecessary events and papers »
- Term Paper feels unnecessary A lot of double work with other courses, it feels like we have had the same presentation several times.»
- - The host company report. First one hand in the end of period one, and then we where supposed to add new thing to a already finished report, this was not an good idea and the result was not good either. - We had to many different presentations about the host company, at least one per course where the result ended up with a lot of repetition. Better to have one or two big presentations covering subject from several courses. - The lectures we had not so good structure. Hard to follow what we where supposed to learn. The part about the method chapter was extremely unclear, both the lecture and the instructions we where handed. The method part have to be learned in a completely different way. »
- individual term paper»
- 1. The Term Paper. The idea itself, writing a report, is not bad but the execution is. We chose the topic too early to know anything so everyone chose a topic which they already knew about. The Term papaer should be initiated later and not be as comprehensive. 2. The deadlines. They have often coincided with deadlines in other courses, making the term paper roughly prio 5. I heard from Ola Hultkrantz that this will be taken care of next year. 3. The Feedback given. between the tutors, there seems to be no unified way of giving feedback or even a unified idea of how the term paper should be written. The basic concepts of what an analysis should contain and how it should be written differs between the different tutors. » (den här kommentaren har blivit redigerad i efterhand)

3. And, make a list of 3 things that was interesting

- to apply theoretical knowledge on a "real" company. Visit the company. Learn about the other companies.»

- The difference between theory and practice out in the companies. »
- The differece between different host companys »
- Interesting to learn how to write a term paper Good to know have to do literature search for articles Interesting to visit the host company »
- Our host company and the presentation technique lecture. The case competition!!»
- host company visits term paper - though it didn"t feel that useful for students earlier attending the I program since we have practiced a lot of report writing. final presentation of HC report. »
- Seminars, Host Company and Case Competition»
- Same as good things»
- The host company case The term paper proposal and review sessions The term paper final session»

- Seminars have been really good.» (Large extent)
- The lectures in the course were mostly about things already covered before in the education. I do realize that this might not always be the case due to the different backgrounds of people in the class.» (Some extent)
- The best thing about the seminars was to get to know the other companies» (Some extent)
- I had just finished my bachelors thesis so I did not learned anything now…, we have already had better lectures about methodology ect this spring so it felt like a very unnecessary course. » (Small extent)
- The only seminar that I thought was helpful was the presentation seminar. The methology seminar was not helpful at all when doing the methology chapter. Waste off time in my opinion » (Small extent)
- I have heard a lot before and the lectures were often long and not regular so easy to forget about. I understand if they are good for exchange students, but we from I or chalmers have heard this onec during the first three years and once again before the bachelor thesis» (Small extent)

- Very intressting to come out and visit companies to understand how the theory can be applied.» (Great extemt)
- It was interesting to see the reality» (Some extent)
- The host company report was a joke. For the second reading period when we were suppose to update the report, according to Benedikte we were suppose according to her rewrite the entire report. I don"t like the attitude that she thinks there is time to rewrite a report on 7000 words in one week when we have 3 other hand ins the same week. Also when we got feedback from Benedikte she is persistant with printing out the report, write the comments by hand and then scan onto the computer again. this leads to that it is impossible to read her comments. There has also been allot double work writing the same task twice, once for the HC report and once for the task in the other course. I seek better communication and co-ordination between the different tasks» (Some extent)

- There were some double booking, I-dagen for instance and it would be good if that could be avoided. Solutions were however provided which I think was good.» (Rather well)
- sometimes it was hard to find the material on the ping pong webpage since it easily became messy with all the different files posted. » (Rather well)
- I do not like ping-pong. The instructions changed all the time and the information was given to late. » (Rather badly)
- Confusing since the course were using ping pong gateway, but the other courses were using studentportalen. Also, communication by mail was always in last minute» (Rather badly)
- Different information on the web page and in the e.mail inbox. The portal used was pingpong so we also had to use three different platforms, confusing! Not to blame on this course only but the coordination has been terribly bad» (Rather badly)
- Not really structured.» (Rather badly)
- All documents are handed out as word and powerpoint files, gives no professional impression. Much better with PDF files (as in all the other courses)» (Rather badly)
- to much emails about unnecessary stuff like updated dates for group b when im in group b for example» (Rather badly)
- Not only is Ping Pong a bad platform to begin with, the information given has been either in the form of emails or in some cases changes in documents on the course Ping Pong page (and there are many documents...). The previous portal (www.student.portal.chalmers.se) had a all the functions a student needed and everyone nkew how to use it. Go back to using that one and get rid of Ping Pong.» (Very badly)

21. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- need to even out the workload, individual termpaper should be introduced later. methodology chapter should be written parallel to the report.»
- Term paper, lectures and lecturer, HC—,report, not so many different presentations, the seminar with the companies could have been interesting if it more companies attended and with another moderator. And last but not least COORDINATION!»
- Deadlines in exam periods The constant double presenting and double writing between this course and the others. That it´,s a pass/fail course.»
- the COMMUNICATION. horrible»
- Methology seminar - it was on a too high level. Should have it on a lower level so the seminar would help for the methology chapter »
- Make the course a part of the other courses instead, or have it as a introduction course in the first period, no need to lett it stretch over 2 periods.»
- Term paper»
- better coordination with the other courses. It didn"t feel reasonable to keep doing all those host company presentations. Also, the host company report were sometimes overlapping the work performed in the other courses. This report was also rushed and low prioritized due to the workload in the other courses. »
- Schedule»
- Coordination between courses, lectures if to be kept, clarify the purpose with the course»
- Perhaps less host company seminars.»
- The workload did not reflect the amount of credits. It was too high. Too much to write, check the three ones in the beginning of this course evaluation»
- the workload and the deadlines adjustment»
- The outline of the course.»
- Better structure, embarrassing sometimes Not push each event too far, once it`s done it should be done, and not like the Term Paper be given another month for corrections etc. before final hand in.»
- The lectures in the beginning of the course, the lecture about method, skip term paper. Better to only have one presenation and one report in the end of the semester instead of having many presentations and 2 "different" reports»
- Seminars, host company report»
- individual term paper»
- 2. Ping Pong 3. Formalia & just one way of how to write a Chalmers report.» (den här kommentaren har blivit redigerad i efterhand)

22. Additional comments

- test»
- Viktoria is an excellent teacher!!»
- nothing to add»
- I think this extra third course had lead to very much extra work and I think many student were very surprised about the extra work load. Very much energy was put on just trying to coordinate between courses and thinking about not forgetting things. »
- Should this course really be a part of the master program? Seems more fit to include the relevant parts (term paper, host company, case competition) in the other courses and expand them to 7,5 hp. »
