Goals and goal fulfilment

The course syllabus states the course goals in terms of learning outcomes, i.e., knowledge, skills and attitudes to be acquired by the student during the course.

3. To what extent did you reach the following goal?

After the course the student should be able to evaluate heat and moisture conditions in air and materials with varying boundary conditions.

- not well»
- As the course material was not little I did not understand some main dependences between the different proccesses. They were not clearly explained. For example one problem should have been analyzed with different conditions, changing the parameters which affect it to see what is supposed to happen and how is it going to look like. Finnaly I misunderstood some moisture dependences and made wrong conclusions for the exam.»

- I do not like the method of the students sitting in a lecture theater doing calculation tasks which are then discussed. - FEM-Basics was the main reason for that» (High)
- FEM mean a loot of work which leavs little time for this course. On the other hand you only needed a small effort to graduate from this course» (High)
- The FEM-course takes too much work, and having the exam on the first day of the examweek was too early. Didn"t have enough time to study for heat and moisture due to mandatory hand-ins in FEM.» (Too high)
- The FEM - Basics course alone seized around 40-50 hours every week, unfortunately.» (Too high)
- FEM took up all the time» (Too high)
- At least 60 hours a week was spent due to the abnormal workload in FEM basics» (Too high)
- The FEM-course was very difficult and labour-intense. Also the last project there which ended in the exam period took a lot of time from this course.» (Too high)
- Fem couse was very tough» (Too high)
- it really destroy for this course "heat and moisture", when we had f*cking much to do in "FEM basics". because you had never time to spend on this course» (Too high)

- The connection in the project turned out to be quite small since most of the time I/we spent on it focused on the FEM problems.» (Rather small extent)
- The idea about making a joint project is good. But it turned out that the project was only relevant for FEM. I think the Heat & moisture course should help the students evaluate the results and stuff like that. I did not learn anything about moisture from calculating on that bridge.» (Rather small extent)
- But again. FEM took up all the time» (Rather high extent)

- And it´,s too bad since it´,s a subject that we need to focus on in Sweden.» (Poor)
- I would not recommand people to take this class.» (Poor)
- If given more time, I would probably have appreciated it more.» (Adequate)
- it was a good, intresting and an essential course, but it´,s a pitty I couldn´,t learn anything. this because of that evrything was depending on how good you are at learning by just hearing, and that´,s really unfair to people who have other kind of learning.» (Good)

24. What is the remaing value of the course in the future?

Very small»3 8%
Rather small»11 31%
Rahter high»19 54%

Genomsnitt: 2.57

- This could and should be a loot higher. It is realy important things you learn» (Rather small)
- I believe it"s an important course.» (Rahter high)

25. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The good lectures with a lot of examples and problems from the real life.»
- The individual tasks.»
- may be more exercises»
- Labs and the general idea of the course.»
- Guest lectures were quite insightful»
- The class exercise work and project work should be kept like this year »
- the project/s were good and not to much»
- the lab work was really helping me to understand, especially about impementation of calculation in the real condition/sample..»
- The lecture from Bengt about typical moisture problems and how to fix them.»
- The connections between the two courses Heat and moisture engineering and Finite element method basics»
- the project work and the exercise of exmple problems shouuld be preserved»
- Exercises lectures»

26. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- The assignments were absolutly not helpful for the exam. We were not well-prepared for it. I passed it, but not with the highest grade and i would like to have the correction, in order to know where i was wrong.»
- - better exercises with examples of calculations that are dealt with on the exam - more specific project and better instructions on the computer programs used - higher level of english in the lectures and a clear connection between the theory and the calculations. - the laboratory work was included in earlier courses in the education, might be an idea to try something new to inspire and motivate the students instead of doing as it always been done before. »
- Change the date for the exam. It should be not exactly after the lecture week. The student need at least 3,4 day to prepare. It can be set up on monday, thuesday...»
- Since I didn"t attend most of the lectures, I couldn"t really judge them any way. Perhaps they could be less based on PowerPoint.»
- nothing lectures was good but we ned more materials to study for exam»
- Change the group work. New groups since you have worked with the same group for too long. New project since I didn"t really find the house from the last course fitting for this project.»
- Project work did not improve the course in any way.»
- Exam hour should be added»
- In my opinion there was not time enough to learn the computer programs. It this part of the course should remain it should be improved!»
- Less guest lectures. More time for practical problems like the ones on the exam.»
- Get a book for the course, if that is not possible then I suggest. Creating one handout for all the material from the course, that will definetly help the course. It could be good to reduce the number of teachers.»
- maybe introduce a course litterature, though I know it´,s hard to find one. But in that case you should do some compendium or similar, or have more structurize slides in power point»
- 1. Schedule. 2. The project group is not too usefull. But it"s good to have my group to discuss somethings. 3. I think add an individual homework is good, it will help student to get more understanding when they meet calculation problem. And get attention of student, because most of them had too focus in FEM basic course.»
- solutions to the answers is a must! »
- The guest lectures »
- lower the workload from the FEM course in order to have more time for Heat and Moisture»
- sorry, I am not sure about this.»
- Less guest lectures»

27. Additional comments

- Give the students more solved previous exams and try to prepare them for similar problems. After the exam organize one lecture and explain the given exercises, solve them and put a stress on the problems you have seen at their exam work. Try to make them to think during the semester, give similar tasks as for the exam and solve them the other day.»
- The course was very fuzzy. It was very difficult to grasp what it really was about. It should be more focused. And this evaluation should really had been done sooner after the course, then I had much to say.. now i"ve forgotten most of it.»
- the teachers was good and I liked that they were engaged over learning us»
- In my point of view, most of student spent their time in understand finite element method basic course and trapped in matlab code.. (it took lots of time) Teaching about heat moisture in class was good, student just need to do rehearsal again by their own after the class. In my case, this is my own foult I didn"t pass this course because I got problem with time management.»
- Less teachers would make the course much better. As it is now it is too difficult to overview the purpose and goals of the course.»
