Yes (indicate which)»18 62%
No»11 37%

Genomsnitt: 1.37

- more renewable energy (specific course on wind or solar power)» (Yes (indicate which))
- I would like a course about wind power and maybe about other renewable energy sources as well.» (Yes (indicate which))
- power market managemnet » (Yes (indicate which))
- I would like something like a contiuation in the Industrial Energy systems course» (Yes (indicate which))
- More economy!» (Yes (indicate which))
- The program should look more at renewable energies, and not only how to improve existing thermal technologies (including CCS, CHP either with coal, gas, biomass or waste...). Personnaly I think marine renewable energies are very interesting for the future, but at least a course (or several) about renewable energies in general, how they work, what technologies exist and how they should be used, would be very interesting.» (Yes (indicate which))
- Maybe something more about electric power production and transportation» (Yes (indicate which))
- more about solar energy» (Yes (indicate which))
- Any electric course better suited for us. I took both "sustainable energy production" and "power market managemennt" but I don"t think we have the right pre-knowledge. » (Yes (indicate which))
- More about power production, like wind power, biogas, solar power, etc. Also an introducing course about electrical power systems, which is important to understand many courses.» (Yes (indicate which))
- Electricity-power system of some kind» (Yes (indicate which))
- Air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pumps» (Yes (indicate which))
- Better classes in topics such as wind power and hydro power.» (Yes (indicate which))
- More on wind power» (Yes (indicate which))
- Power market management» (Yes (indicate which))
- More about solar and wind power. More about CCS, maybe an entire course should be possible with all the knowledge there is at the department of energy technology» (Yes (indicate which))
- Some Electrical Power Tech, like PMM201.» (Yes (indicate which))

9. Are there any courses that you think should either be heavily revised or even removed from the programme?

28 svarande

Yes (indicate which)»23 82%
No»5 17%

Genomsnitt: 1.17

- ESMP» (Yes (indicate which))
- - Sustainable Development / Sustainable Energy Futures (too much non-technological content, takes too much time within the programme) - Energy Systems Modelling and Planning (heavy revisions...) - Life Cycle Assessment (revisions, if possible, see how to apply it to energy systems ?) - Sustainable Power Production & Transportation (revisions, could be done better, deaper)» (Yes (indicate which))
- HVAC, to me, it doesn"t really seem to fit into the programme and consists of too many differrent aspects, although it was quite intresting.» (Yes (indicate which))
- teatcher in ESMP» (Yes (indicate which))
- ESMP, the idea is good but the execution is poor. Needs more structure and an exam that corresponds to the information given and the level in the course. » (Yes (indicate which))
- Remove Sustainable Development or combine it with Sustainable Energy Futures. There are also improvent possibilities in ESMP mostly in organasition and lectures.» (Yes (indicate which))
- Energy System Modelling and Planning : could (should) be very interesting, but is so bad organised and the exam is so different from the rest of the course that it is not. But I don"t think it should be removed, just better organised and explained in a clearer way from the beginning.» (Yes (indicate which))
- Energy system modelling and planning» (Yes (indicate which))
- ESMP, and sustainable energy futures and sustainable development could be united to only one course» (Yes (indicate which))
- Sustainable development » (Yes (indicate which))
- Sustainable development and/or sustainable energy future. Energy system modelling and planning. Air-conditioning, refrigeration and hp-technology (NO new information!)» (Yes (indicate which))
- The Heat and Power Production I think should be aimed against Sustainable Energy Systems, not dealing with coal power. » (Yes (indicate which))
- Sustainable development and Sustainable Energy Futures should be made to one oures, it is far too much the same content in the courses » (Yes (indicate which))
- The Energy systems modelling and planning, is an interesting course but poorly executed. It felt unstructured and unclear what the exam were all about.» (Yes (indicate which))
- The idea of the ESMP-class is really good and some of the projects are interesting. The elvel of the course needs to be raised and the amount of teaching time increased and of higher quality. The administrative part of the course is also of very poor quality.» (Yes (indicate which))
- Energy systems modeling and planning» (Yes (indicate which))
- HVAC can become more attractive by adding some projects along the period. Energy systems modeling and planning should be entirely revised to become more interesting and attractive » (Yes (indicate which))
- MEN080 -> thougt it would be a more advanced course after the HVAC course the first year» (Yes (indicate which))
- HVAC was to specific and not good» (Yes (indicate which))
- Sustainable development/futures should be one course not two. Maybe the selectable courses selections should be highlighted more to if they are based for mechanical or chemical engineers. » (Yes (indicate which))
- Energy Systems Modeling and Planning should be revised. Susainable development and Sustainable energy futures should be revised. Power market managment should be revised and adapted to the background knowledge of the mpses students and then contain more about the power market!» (Yes (indicate which))
- I think that the courses Sustainable Energy Futures, Sustainable Development and Energy System Modelling and Planning would be so much better if they instead would be assemblied into one course. It"s basically the same and especially ESMP could definitally be much better! And SEF and SD could be put into one course and be so much better! » (Yes (indicate which))
- Air cond, refrigeration (the 2nd HVAC course)» (Yes (indicate which))

10. Have you identified lecture field overlap between any courses?

29 svarande

Yes (indicate what and between which courses)»17 58%

- SD/Sustainable Energy Futures» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- - Overlap between Sustainable Development & Sustainable Energy Futures - Some overlap between Combustion Engineering & Sustainable Energy Futures (lecture about CCS) - Some overlap between Heat and Power Systems Engineering & Combustion Engineering (but nothing so important)» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Sustaniable development and many other courses from bachelor degree.» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- SEF and SD» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Sustainable Development and Sustainable Energy futures. » (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- SD and SEF, sometimes same lecturer and same slides. » (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Sustainable development and Sustainable energy futures» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Sust.dev. and Sust.energy fut. - and also in combustion engineering and heat and power. The parts of carbon dioxide capture and storage is important, but it was almost the same lecture in this four courses, nothing new.» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- In Sustainable development and sustainable energy future. Air-conditioning, refrigeration and hp-technology (NO new information!)» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- As mentioned above, and general information about CCS in almost all courses, a little bit too much repetition and too little depth sometimes» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Industrial energy systems, design of industrial equipment, heat and power. Computational fluid dynamics for engineers & Combustion engineering.» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Future energy systems and the first course we had(can"t remember the name) & MEN080 and the HVAC course» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Only when I took technical change and the environment, which overlapped with industrial energy systems» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Susainable development and Sustainable energy futures» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- Sustainable perspectives and carbon capture and storage.» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- All courses in respective area (IES & DIEE, Heat and Power & Combustion engineering, Sustainable development & Sustainable futures etc) overlap to some extent, but that"s not really a problem. The problem was Hvac-2, which didn"t really contain anything new.» (Yes (indicate what and between which courses))
- No that many.. » (No)

11. Have you experienced large differences in the difficulty level between obligatory courses?

Yes, very large»3 10%
Yes, rather large»8 27%
No, just as reasonable»18 62%
Not at all»0 0%

- Different courses needed differents levels of abstraction and different ways of learning (example : Sustainable Development compared to Heat and Power Systems Engineering) so, depending on the people, there were large differences in the difficulty level. » (Yes, very large)
- combustion hardest one» (Yes, very large)
- Sustainable development is much easier then HVAC or Heat and Power engineering.» (Yes, very large)
- Heat and power systems, sustainable development» (Yes, rather large)
- IES/Heat and Power/Combustion = pretty tough courses» (Yes, rather large)
- For example between Sustainable Development or Sustainable Energy futures (rather simple) and Industrial Energy Systems (more complicated). But maybe it also depends on students, what they like and their background.» (Yes, rather large)
- The courses in sustainable development was rather undemanding» (Yes, rather large)
- Between IES (rather difficult) and SD/SEF» (Yes, rather large)
- Heavy: IES, lighter sustainable development & futures and ESMP.» (Yes, rather large)
- As always the "soft" classes like Sust. Energy Fututures and Sust. Dev are much easier than the more technical classes DIEE and HAP.» (No, just as reasonable)

12. Have you experienced large differences in the work load between courses?

Yes, very large»5 17%
Yes, rather large»17 58%
No, just as reasonable»6 20%

- SD versus IES or Combustion» (Yes, very large)
- The courses: - Combustion Engineering - Heat and Power Systems Engineering - Design of Industrial Energy Equipment - Industrial Energy Systems were tougher (regarding work load) than the others such as : - Sustainable Development - Sustainable Energy Futures especially because of the work load during the last weeks (final projects and preparations of the exams).» (Yes, very large)
- DIEE and COMBU lots of work SD and SEF little work» (Yes, very large)
- Between the first quarter (HVAC and SD) the work load was small and the rest of the master where the work load was pretty intense. » (Yes, very large)
- But I"ve chosen my courses in that way.» (Yes, very large)
- Design of industry energy equipment, Introduction to Nuclear reactors» (Yes, rather large)
- same as above» (Yes, rather large)
- For example between Sustainable Development (some seminar preparations and a not too hard exam if you"ve followed during the quarter) and Heat and Power (heavy and time-consuming project + quite dificult exam)» (Yes, rather large)
- The work load was much less in the sustainable-courses at the autumn than in heat and power and design of industial energy equipment.» (Yes, rather large)
- The courses Sustainable power production & transportation and Heat and Power production had high workload due to many obligatory reports.» (Yes, rather large)
- CFD & Heat and power required alot of time.» (Yes, rather large)
- During period 3 there was a very high work load on both of the courses.» (Yes, rather large)
- Just like the comment above.» (Yes, rather large)
- DIEE had a quite heavy work load but also the Energy systems course,» (Yes, rather large)
- Heat and power and industrial energy systems were rather heavy while HVAC and sustainable development had rather low workload» (Yes, rather large)

- not very integrated non swedish students more activities or decided groups in the beginning woul have helped» (Yes, to a too large extent)
- I see that the people speeking the same language are often in the same group. Can be hard to avoid. I think thet the first activity that was arranged in the masters program tha first week helped much too good unity we as well.» (Yes, to a too large extent)
- Most the first year. » (Yes, to a too large extent)
- But it"s rather natural that some people feels more comfortable with peoples from similar culture, while other thinks it"s good and interesting to learn more about new cultures.» (Yes, to a too large extent)
- Well, the difference of language (even if all the Swedish students practice an excellent english) involves a gap between swedish and non-swedish students. However, most of the students in the class (swedish and non-swedish) are open-minded so it was relatively easy to go to them and communicate. So yes, there was a gap, but I forced myself to go talk with them and it worked rather well :-). » (Not much, but there was a litlle)
- Maybe it could be better to mix the students better when doing projects» (Not much, but there was a litlle)
- It will always be like that, but not more here than anywhere else I believe» (Not much, but there was a litlle)
- The swedish students didn"t know each other before so therefore the swedish student had an interest in getting to know each as well» (Not much, but there was a litlle)
- However, it could be improved by organising more of these common dinners (like the barbecue at the beginning of the year), because the foreign students mostly meet friends during welcome of foreign students at the beginning of the year (ie other foreign students), or in their "corridors" where they live or during other activities they do in Chalmers, like sport (then it can be Swedes...). Relations are very good inside of the master between all students, but they could be closer.» (Not at all)

- As a whole I"m satisfied but some teachers are hard too reach since they are busy or don"t answer emails.» (Very satisfied)
- It is much easier to talk with teachers than in France. Everybody is considered to be equal and teachers are ready to listen to students. They can make themselves available when students need them.» (Very satisfied)
- The teachers are very available and it is a pleasure to work with them.» (Very satisfied)

50/50»11 42%
Mostly I, I struggled with my English»3 11%

Genomsnitt: 1.65

- Some lecturers were struggling and this affected the level of the course and the possibility to learn as much as possible. If the course was held in swedish the level of the course would be higher.» (Mostly the lecturer, he/she couldn"t express himself/herself)
- It is often difficult to keep attention to lecturers expressing them self in a "poor language"» (Mostly the lecturer, he/she couldn"t express himself/herself)
- Some lecturers couldn"t write well in English. It was noticeable on the exam where some sentences where translated directly from Swedish to English which made it difficult to understand what the question was. Often I would write the answer to the question asked, but it was not what the teacher meant to ask. Happened a lot in the course sustainable development (and other courses by that department).» (Mostly the lecturer, he/she couldn"t express himself/herself)
- No big issues regarding the language hinder in my case. It was a hinder a few times at the beginning of the master, but there was no problem anymore after some weeks. » (50/50)
- Just sometimes vocabulury problems at the beginning, but this was not at all a real problem. And everybody is equal so it doesn"t even matter, it is just to look in the dictionnary or ask your neighbor/the teacher. The only problem is that we don"t have the vocabulury in our natives languages, but I guess we"ll learn it quickly !» (50/50)

No»0 0%
Probably not»0 0%
I would need to think more about it»2 6%
Probably yes»6 20%
Yes»21 72%

Genomsnitt: 4.65

- It feels like I would have liked to have more technical knowledge. Maybe I would have chosen MPISC instead and included some energy classes.» (I would need to think more about it)
- I think I would have chosen industrial ecology since the courses we have had together with them have suited me the most.» (I would need to think more about it)
- Very interesting. I discovered new concepts and new technologies and actually learned a lot in the field of energy. » (Probably yes)
- i am very satisfied with the programme» (Yes)
- I am very intrested in this field, especially after the program.» (Yes)
- This is definately my field of interest» (Yes)
- With some alternations.» (Yes)

24. What should definitely be preserved in the Master programme?

- everything»
- Heat and Power course = central topic Hvac courses»
- Some "core" technology-oriented courses : - Industrial Energy Systems - Heat & Power Systems Engineering - Design of Industrial Energy Equipment - Combustion Engineering The opportunity of taking other courses from other Master Programmes is really interesting too ! It was nice to discover something else more related to physics and nuclear during the programme (I think mostly about the Nanotechnology course and the Nuclear one !)»
- The mix of courses, both courses focusing on the system level and courses focusing on specific technology.»
- combustion heat and power and ies and diee»
- Most of it.»
- The coexistence of both theoretical/general courses such as Sustainable Development and Sustainable Energy Futures and more technical courses such as Industrial Energy Systems and Heat and Power.»
- the diversity of the topics»
- The industrial energy systems course- one of the best courses I"ve ever taken. And also the mix of more techniqual courses and other courses more on environment and new technologies»
- some of the compulsory course»
- All the study visits and they should be increased»
- Project works are good.»
- The courses heat and power, DIEE»
- The number of students, we got know each other and it was a great group. The courses were all very interesting.»
- Heat and Power, Industrial Energy Systems!»
- The technical courses (IES, HPSE...) and the possibility to choose eligible courses. »
- The introduction courses was very good and intresting. »
- Sustainable development, sustainable energy futures»
- Heat and power engineering course »

25. What should definitely be changed in the Master programme?

- not so much»
- Heat and Power course at the beginning (first quarter)»
- Some "non-technological" courses which are really interesting, but could become better if they are revised and more close-related to energy sciences & systems : - Life Cycle Assessment - Environmental Policy Instruments - Energy Systems Modelling and Planning The course "Sustainable Power Production and Transportation" was interesting and should be preserved, but could definitely be improved. The opportunity of taking more courses about biomass conversion (biorefineries ?) and renewable energies should be possible. I was a bit disappointed somehow not to learn so much about renewable energies (not a deep knowledge about the technologies involved). I understand that it is not the "core" of the Master programme but I think it is a pity not to be able to study more about it.»
- In some aspects the plan for the programme doesn"t seem to be very adopted to work for a more sustianable energy system. Focus is on old and current technology rather than the development of new technology and more sustainable technologies. »
- dont know»
- In the program, in the "technical courses", it has been chosen to go from the most detailed to the widest : we started with basically how to use energy inside a factory, then studied how to produce this energy and finished with how the energy systems in whole Europe works. I am not sure, but maybe the other way round would be more clear for students... I also had some difficulties at the beginning to understand the course Industrial Energy Systems : maybe it was not very clearly explained what it was about, and seemed a bit abstract. It"s a pity, because as soon as I understood that (ie too late) it seemed extremely interesting.»
- Perhaps more elective courses»
- The ESMP course»
- I want some more advanced courses. The lack of new more advanced information was especially noticable in Air-conditioning, refrigeration and hp-technology. »
- The start up. It is necessary to have additional activities outside school, especially for students from abroad. When starting the Bachelor we have 4 weeks of "nollning" and now we had one evening.»
- More industral activities»
- Have in mind the work load if students choose HPSE and DIEE-course can get very heavy.»
- Energy systems modelling and planning should not be mandatory. There should also be a more built on course to the HVAC-course»
- more guidance and help on choosing appropriate selectable courses.»
- The courses ESMP, SEF and SD! »
