Good»6 40%
So and so»2 13%
Bad»3 20%
Really bad»0 0%

Genomsnitt: 2.26

- Open ended questions and student participation is always good. » (Very good)
- Martin seem to be very interested in what he teaches and he seem to be concerned that the students learn something.» (Very good)
- The only thing I found slightly annoying is that sometimes some excessive time is spent in topic introductions and organizational questions (sometimes too detailed in my point of view).» (Good)
- Perhaps better defined course litterature. I"m thinking of the second homework-problem - I missed your lecture and the wikipedia-link was not a very good substitute.» (Good)
- I felt that I didnt learn much from the classes. They were usually intresting, but I would like to learn some concrete methods for simulation and things to think about when approaching problems like these.» (So and so)
- Sorry, but lectures were very slow and low in information content. The content of the entire course could easily have been covered in one lecture by Bernhard. (Though that might say more about the pace of Bernhards lectures.)» (Bad)
- PhM9u4 nchbccguzoyv, jchbfuywdfoe, [link=http://syrkwsyldrsf.com/]syrkwsyldrsf[/link], http://jcxzfdcrkvgb.com/» (Bad)
- Martin is not good teacher at all since he don"t prepare the materials for teaching in formal and proper way. Lectures didn"t provide any help for course project. » (Bad)

7. Mention something that you think was good with the lectures

- They were fun. Relaxed. »
- Lot"s of videos»
- 1. Lectures describe state of the art in modeling, 2. Truly interdisciplinary topics, 3. Home problems and projects are very relevant to the contents of the course,»
- Interesting and motivating for the projects»
- The talks were intresting.»
- Questions to stuents. »
- Having discussion-like lectures is a good idea in general, but since many students are not used to this it sometimes was a bit problematic.»
- quick but extensive overviews into different areas guided by someone who knows what he speaks about. Most of the lectures left you convinced that you could go home and implement it right away.»
- The lectures have a good combination of background, theory and illustrations.»
- PhM9u4 nchbccguzoyv, jchbfuywdfoe, [link=http://syrkwsyldrsf.com/]syrkwsyldrsf[/link], http://jcxzfdcrkvgb.com/»
- He has one unique positive point since during the lectures when he asks a question he gives time and really motivate students to think about the question and then he pay attention to student answers which I is really good. »

8. Mention something that Martin should do different next year

- They were a bit too fun. And too relaxed. »
- Describe more "tools" used in modeling.»
- If the home problems are loosly defined they can"t be expected to yield a highly strict and stringent result... If there is only one correct way to make the home problem then one can"t be that vague in the problem statement.. And as people who did exactly the same things got 4 and fail resppectively... When the one who failed more exactly specified how things had been done... Not specifying exactly how you have solved a problem shouldn"t be rewarded as such... Then one only learns to be vague in describing how one soloved the problem...»
- Focus more on fewer subjects and treat them more thoroughly.»
- Pronounce traffic jams as traffic jams rather than traffic yams. Sweet potatoes are rarely a big problem in urban transportation. »
- Have the crucial lectures for the home problems well before the dead line. For example, have the network lecture before the subject that was between the cellular automatons and networks.»
- PhM9u4 nchbccguzoyv, jchbfuywdfoe, [link=http://syrkwsyldrsf.com/]syrkwsyldrsf[/link], http://jcxzfdcrkvgb.com/»
- Change the home works to be more precise The homework questions must ask and describe what the students are expected to do (Student are not Sherlock Holmes to figure out that what are they asked to solve,...)»

- Network problem was OK. Straight forward. The Schelling question were was as open ended, but the results had to be according to what Martin thought what was interesting. That"s pretty retarded. And the grading was of course completely arbitrary. Some guys worked together and wrote pretty much exactly the same things. One got 3 and one got 5. So use U/G next time. Schelling was a big waste of time. Network thing was OK.» (I did not lear that much by doing the home problems, The questions where too vague)
- From my point of view the home problems could have had some (optional?) tough points / questions.» (Too easy, The time requirements was well balanced, I did not lear that much by doing the home problems, I liked the open ended formulations of the questions)
- As I mentioned earlier similiar approaches should be graded in the same way...» (The questions where too vague)
- The graduation of the first home problem was a joke. Different grades for exactly the same work. But the question were also very vague. No problem with the second home problem.» (The time requirements was well balanced, I learned a lot from the exercises, The questions where too vague)
- I like the open ended formulations, but to be fair, it requires that that the grading also is open minded, not looking for specific results and methods to use. Also I think the grading of the sheets was not always consistent with what you have told us in class. i.e keeping the second report to 1 page and getting deduction for not including plots.» (Good level, The time requirements was well balanced, I did not lear that much by doing the home problems, I liked the open ended formulations of the questions)
- The "too vague" comment does not apply to the first homework. But my feelings on the second can be due to the missed lecture.» (Good level, The time requirements was well balanced, I learned a lot from the exercises, The questions where too vague)
- The open ended formulations are good but it could be good to point out that the questions just are guidances and that the students are expected to figure out what the main point of the task is. As it was now it was easy to misinterpret the questions.» (Good level, I learned a lot from the exercises, The questions where too vague, I liked the open ended formulations of the questions)

- The entire "guess what you should do" layout results in them taking a hell of a long time to do, without being very meaningful. Smaller tasks, better defined, which are quick and easy, would be a lot more useful. That way we could have learned more than 3 things during the course.» (I did not lear that much by doing the home problems)
- Good level, but I think we should have gone over some techniques in class before sitting down with the problem.» (Good level)
- I think before the lab of agent modeling(traffic simulation) you should give an introductory class» (Good level, I would have liked more computer labs)
- I like the solution with non compulsory computer labs, it somehow makes them more focused on learning.» (Good level, I learned a lot from the exercises)
- The first home problem maybe should have gotten a brief introduction in an earlier lecture. The two others were at a good level. They were possible to finnish in an hour, but it"s not fun to code that fast and think simultaneously. » (Good level, I learned a lot from the exercises)

- Don"t think I learned anything.» (Small extent)
- I think that there is not that much what the teacher can do for the student to learn. For example, I think that our project work was the most effective from the teaching perspective, because: 1. We have chosen some area that we didn"t know very well, therefore we learn many new things from that area, and not only from the main course subject, 2. There are many things that one needs to try on his / her own,» (Some extent)

- I was extremely disappointed with this course. I looked forward to learning about these things, especially agent based models. But reading the summary on wikipedia gave me more information than the entire course. » (Poor)
- I have the feeling that I really didnt learn much from this course. I got some more experience with programming which is always good, but thats about it. I thought many parts of the course were intresting but I want more details and theory to actually learn something.» (Poor)
- Garbage input (Define your project at the beginning of the term) --> Good Output(The time is finished the solution looks fine and defend your way of attacking the problem) » (Poor)
- Should be granted some extra lectures, because there is a huge potential in this subject.» (Adequate)
- PhM9u4 nchbccguzoyv, jchbfuywdfoe, [link=http://syrkwsyldrsf.com/]syrkwsyldrsf[/link], http://jcxzfdcrkvgb.com/» (Adequate)
- Good lectures, great project, two good home problems but one was presented and treated too bad.» (Good)
- It is good with a general course in complex systems.» (Good)

22. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Network theory part was OK.»
- 1. Approach to home problems and projects, 2. Interdisciplinary orientation,»
- the project»
- The computer labs and the homework.»
- projects»
- Most.»
- PhM9u4 nchbccguzoyv, jchbfuywdfoe, [link=http://syrkwsyldrsf.com/]syrkwsyldrsf[/link], http://jcxzfdcrkvgb.com/»

23. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- The course should be removed and replaced with a game theory or agent-based models course. If you want a project course, then add one, but not so early in the program, and not together with meaningless time consuming home-work tasks. Throw out the environment people, and crank up the pace.»
- no grades on HP"s. Just pass or not pass.»
- The definition and grading of the home problems»
- the way the questions are asked in HP1»
- Either more clear problem formulation in the homeproblems or a more open mindset when grading them. They way it was this year doesnt make sense. Take a few subjects and teach them thoroughly instead.»
- Perhaps some more structure in the projects. More clearly defined goals would help immensely, although since the limitations of the topics of the projects are very fuzzy, this is probably hard.»
- more content»
- I think maybe some recommendation of an introductory text about complex models maybe would be good. As it was now a list of literature was presented. It would have taken too much time to read all.»
- PhM9u4 nchbccguzoyv, jchbfuywdfoe, [link=http://syrkwsyldrsf.com/]syrkwsyldrsf[/link], http://jcxzfdcrkvgb.com/»
- Be more provided what subjects should be covered, group the students in proper way, ask and want the students to solve simple problems /questions correctly is better to want them difficult projects with unacceptable result.»

24. Additional comments

- It could be a good idea give some key classes (agent base modeling or networks) during the first period of the year. May be using some hours of complex systems seminar. In order to introduce the students in the topics. In that way we can think with more detail in the project, and the goals that we want to achieve.
