48 svarande

I have not seen/read the goals»8 16%
The goals are difficult to understand»0 0%
The goals give some guidance, but could be clearer»18 37%
The goals clearly describe what I am supposed to learn»22 45%

Genomsnitt: 3.12

- Since SCM is an introduction course, an overview about many topics is given. Sometimes thereby connections between different topics become unclear. » (The goals give some guidance, but could be clearer)

4. Are the goals reasonable considering your background and the number of credits?

Answer this this question and the succeeding one, only if you do know the course goals.

46 svarande

No, the goals are set too low»2 4%
Yes, the goals seem reasonable»44 95%
No, the goals are set too high»0 0%

Genomsnitt: 1.95

- For students with a bachelor in Industrial Engineering and Management, the goals could have been set higher. A lot of repetition.» (No, the goals are set too low)
- I think the term paper is a really difficult exercice. Indeed, we don"t know a lot about supply chain management at the beginning of the course, and it"s tricky to find a subject!» (Yes, the goals seem reasonable)
- There is some repetition for us from I, but I think the content of the course is put together good so I do not mind it.» (Yes, the goals seem reasonable)

5. Did the examination assess whether you have reached the goals?

No, not at all»0 0%
To some extent»19 40%
Yes, definitely»25 53%
I don"t know/have not been examined yet»3 6%

- Examination questions could be more clearly defined. Also, there were annoying spelling/grammar error in the final exam.» (To some extent)
- I think some questions were given to much points. » (To some extent)
- The questions were just about by-heart learning, we should be able to solve problems. Moreover, the expectation about the answers are not always clear.» (To some extent)
- Maybe some of the pass/fail assignents should count into teh grade too, perhaps like extra points to the exam?» (To some extent)
- more feed back is always good» (To some extent)
- I think the examination never can cover the all program and what we have learned. But as all the questions concerned different fields, I think it was a good way to assess whether we had reached the goals or not.» (To some extent)
- One question in the exam was very long and gave many points, maybe it would have been better to divide it in two questions. » (Yes, definitely)
- Always hard to tell - depends on the exam result.» (I don"t know/have not been examined yet)
- The questions in the exam were quite open. For me it was difficult to assess if a more detailed answer or comprehensive answer (therefore in less detail) is expected.» (I don"t know/have not been examined yet)

- Interesting to see research work and case studies. The most important I think is to discuss the articles during seminars. Less articles & more seminars would have been fine to me.» (Some extent)
- But there were to many!» (Some extent)
- to many and some were not that good!» (Some extent)
- Many good articles. The TCO article by Ellram should be replaced with a better one though.» (Large extent)
- Articles helped me a lot to clarify different topics with cases and industry examples that sometimes where to extent and cofusing on the books» (Great extent)
- Perhaps to many articles in total, some didn"t feel necessary more that there "should" be articles linked to an lecture and not that they where important (e.g Reversed Logistics, Performance measurement)» (Great extent)
- Very good!!! Learnings from these were excellent! Felt relevant and had a lot of good knowledge that was not as easy to understand in the books as they were in the articles.» (Great extent)
- I found the articles globally more interesting to read than the books, that is maybe why I think they contributed more to my learning.» (Great extent)
- There were very many articles to read, but they really gave a deeper insight in many of the subjects. The seminars helped understanding them better.» (Great extent)

- Good, could be faster and better organized» (Rather well)
- I had a lot of problems with the "new" student portal but the old one always worked perfect» (Very well)

- The only problem is that the student portal is sometimes very slow, or doesn"t work.» (Very well)
- If you want to be picky, make sure all presentations go in the folder "Presentations". Try to keep it as structured as possible.» (Very well)

Course structure and content

11. How do you perceive the following parts of the course? Please give some brief comments if you rank any part as less than good.

Matrisfråga

- I did not really like the Strategic sourcing because I think it was a bit too theoretical for me. I prefered Braifrom case and the competition one where some calculations could be made. Also for the term paper, I would appreciate more feedbacks from the tutor because at the beginning it was kind of hard to know how to start and if you start in the good way.»
- Strategic sourcing - why a follow up so late in the course?»
- The lectures on supply management was sometimes hard to comprehend, although Arni was very committed to teaching.»
- During the Strategic Sourcing we had to many assumptions to make. The result is that any solution is a good solution as long as it"s been justified. Moreover, but it"s common for every case solving, we are at a strategic level, which is less likely to happen for our first job. It seemed like we were consultant wannabes. The Term Paper is a good idea but there should be more milestones. Concretely, more mandatory meeting with the coordinator, one every week for example, to keep the pressure on.»
- It would be nice with feedback on handin"s like seminar questions. »
- The seminars could focus less on what the articles actually said and more on what the students think about what the articles says (information vs. analysis)»
- The term paper took a lot of time! The preasure on the course was to high! Too much to do and handle in and read!»
- I just want to add that I like the seminars a lot, they help you to understand the subject a lot better.»
- Arni have to make his slides less of presentation slides and more of information slides that is good to read (Ola does this, Dan have lot of information but not so well structured).»
- Braiform felt a bit out of place.. it didnt give much learning outcomes at all.»
- The SCM lectures were sometimes perceived to be a bit unfocused. Specific parts of the content of some lectures did not seem really relevant to the area of the subject and it could have been more interesting to go deeper into the core and the most important content.»
- Arni is really good, but he doesn"t stick to the "white"-book slides very good so it would be better if he could use another book/articles instead. »
- Braiform- just bad timing. Time was tight due to other things, but hte case itself was good. Competiotion- Fun but it was not a good lerning experience in the eyes of the course.»
- The term paper is a very difficult exercise, especially at the beginning of the program. And I don"t feel as I have learn a lot from this assignment.»
- As I said before, the term paper is a really difficult and time-consuming exercise. In my opinion, the positive points which we can remove from it are limited.»
- The main point of improvement would be the communicate clearer (learning) goals with the cases, have the presentation closer to the hand-ins of the report and also have individual feedback sessions. Finally, more time for the term paper (i.e. no group work) would be helpful in getting a higher quality on the papers.»
- I thnik that the case study are really interesting and are a good way to put in practice what we have learned. I ranked the seminar "rather poor" not because it was not interesting, but I wanted to underline the fact that we did not have any feedback on our work about them, and that is, in my opinion, a pity. A good point of the seminar and the questions was that it permitted to us to go through the articles and to spend some time on them to understand them very well.»
- I would have preferred to have the strategic sourcing case presentation and feedback closer to the hand in. I do understad why that was not possible this fall though, but maybe for next year.»
- i dident think tha5t the discussions in the seminars where that good every bodys view was the same»

- Postive suprised of the level of the international students, great!» (Very well)
- This class has a very good spirit (mostly thanks to the Evaluation & social activities group) so cooperation was natural.» (Very well)
- I´,m really happy how close the group is. That has a lot to do with the fact that Ola made us make a course evaluation group that has tried to make events to get us closer as well as putting us into groups with different students. I now think I know everyone well.» (Very well)
- As usually this works well (but there was one problem with one person in the competition, unfortunately, I think that person will have a hard time doing the SCM-program)» (Very well)
- The team works went very well and the atmosphere in the course was very pleasant, particularly thanks to the motivation and implication of the course evaluation team.» (Very well)
- It is very good to be divided into groups to get to know each other. Course evaluation group has been very good! It makes it so much easier to work together when you know each other better.» (Very well)

- In average I think the workload was adequate, but a bit unequally distributed. The last two weeks of the reading period were really tough with the case study, seminars and term paper. So there wasn"t much time left for exam studying. Especially the seminars could be done earlier in my opinion.» (Adequate)
- It"s been a stressful but fun study period!» (High)
- The load in the end of the term was especially hard.» (High)
- High, but that I find good!! Now it"s getting serious.» (High)
- Much to do, but not hard» (High)
- High enough to keep us busy, low enough to keep us creative and searching for new knowledge. Perfect!» (High)
- Sometimes the workload was too high with many assignments to be done simultaneously.» (High)
- So much reeding!» (High)
- Especially when we have to perform Braiform case study and the competition in a raw. » (High)
- Some weeks too high and some others too low!» (High)
- Sometimes too high: I think notably that the litterature asked to be red is often too dense.» (High)
- There were many cases and it was a bit hard to find time to study for your own learning and for the exam. But you learned a lot from the cases as well.» (High)
- Too many things to do and an exam - either skip some hand ins that really did not benefit so much or drop the text and put more emphasis on term paper. It really felt like more than two 7.5hp courses! » (Too high)

- Really have not learned TOO much even though workload has been high. Not in comparison to the introduction course in the bachelors programme.» (Adequate)
- I had expected something harder and finally get deep in to something. This was still just general knowledge, and I know a lot of it from before. Then it becames boring and nonchallanging!» (Adequate)
- The final examination is a bit too hard...» (Good)
- A great start of my future studies this two years!» (Good)
- I liked the holistic picture the course gave, think of the Logistics course and try not to repeat to much... But in general very good!» (Good)
- A lot of repetition for previous I-students.» (Good)
- I am totally convinced that the course gives good fundamentals for SCM» (Excellent)
- Best course I have taken at chalmers so far!!» (Excellent)
- Very interesting! Good lectures! » (Excellent)

15. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Supply Chain Game»
- Term paper and the Case structure (good quality in cases and the right workload)»
- Case Braiform The SCM Case competition»
- Less workload - too many hand ins with the exam. And what happened to the factory visits that we were promised? Why should workload be so much that we miss these great opportunities?»
- The structure of the course. The topics. Individual term paper.»
- The case competition and Arni"s lecture»
- The case competition definitely, it was very funny even with a lot of work to do.»
- The supply chain game and the case studies were really good for the understanding»
- The seminars, cases, Arni and Christopher. »
- Case Competition, Group works, Seminars, Course Evaluation Group, Term Paper.»
- Case Competition, Supply Game and Seminars because really helped to clarify the concepts learned.»
- The cases and lecturers. »
- The term paper. It feels good to do an individual writing assignment for the first time during the education.»
- SC Game Seminars Cases Term paper»
- SC Game, Case competition»
- The seminars!»
- The seminars, changing into groups, term paper.»
- Martin Christopher was good!»
- Everything gives more knowledge, but it"s important to prioritize the lecture time and make it more interactive. Fun to be a part of, not just listen and see 45 slides from the book. Arni was a great lecturer. Martin Christofer too, but it would be nice to have at least one more lecture with deeper information/knowledge shared regarding details and research within SCM from him.»
- The industry involvement (like Accenture in the case competition, very good, of course other companies can be involved as well). The SCM social activities, very nice! That there is no grading for group work, there is never a fair grade on a group work...»
- Accenture case, procurement case, the course books, the course articles, the seminars»
- Seminars»
- The case competition, the supply chain game and term paper»
- Well, everything maybe, but the work load is on the border of being waay too high...»
- the dynamism of this course»
- Case study with accenture»
- The sourcing part with arni»
- Accenture competition»
- The supply chain game»
- The group assignments, cases and term paper was very useful to grasp the main concepts of the course»
- Term paper, case competition»
- The case competition »
- The different case and team studies.»
- The case competition, I learned a lot from it. The beer game. The lecturers. (Martin Christopher was also very good.)»
- - Case Braiform, not necessary the specific case (prepare for the case study) - Case competition - Small groups are good for the seminars, maybe make them even smaller. - Close collaboration with Accenture for the sourcing part.»

16. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Term paper, at least how to develop the project, I think we need more help from the examinators to guide us, because at least me I find very lost.»
- Include more than one dominant company (accenture)»
- The way the term paper is presented»
- Less workload - too many hand ins with the exam. And what happened to the factory visits that we were promised? Why should workload be so much that we miss these great opportunities?»
- I think the Braiform case felt cramped, I did not learn much from it. It was mostly about "guessing" answers without much connection to theories in the course.»
- To Visit some companies. The presentation for the strategic sourcing case was too far away from the hand-in and we had already done 2 other projects before.»
- Maybe spread of workload»
- The red-book should be changed it is difificult to read and does not add value.»
- Less articles to read, better Term Paper follow-up, more seminars.»
- I think that the course is well structured and has great activities. I will keep it like that.»
- I would like to have the posibililty to go on a field trip. »
- Maybe add some site visits and more guest lectures»
- The white book and the seminars.»
- There should be more time for the term paper.»
- More guidance on Term Paper»
- Less mandatory stuff! Too many case and hand-ins!»
- have the presentation of the strategic sourcing case closer to the case itself. more spread load, like having the term paper sooner. »
- The white book was not good and Arnis slides was very hard to understand when reading them before the exam»
- Some parts can be smaller (Strategic Sourcing-case, term paper) and some things can expand (more seminars and more games and a good SC/company visit! It is very nice to have more inspiration in lecturers so we get motivated to understand the fundamental theory (read the books better), in comparison with having long and somewhat boring lectures just telling what"s said in the books I think the Term-paper concept need to be changed. Most of us didn"t had time to start with it in time, and got stressed to finish it in the end. Ola shouldn"t say "and so on" that often. It was 51 times(!) in one-hour-lesson. Try to get rid of that bad habit.»
- Arni slides, fewer articles (which is needed, which is taken with only because there "should" be articles) Martin Christopher seems to be a celebrity in SCM but his lecture was a little bit week, this should be taken in consideration...»
- more feedback on the cases»
- Case braiform.. The follow-up after the beer game. Maybe seminars need to be a bit stricter and not so open to everyones comments, but more of an interactive lecture rather than a seminar left completely to students.»
- Smaller groups at the seminars.»
- White book, add some points for all the pass/fail assignments»
- More feedbacks on all group projects»
- the red book was bad. not nessesary at all! take away some of the articles. »
- Better Spreading of the workload over the quarter»
- An other way to do the term paper!»
- one of the cases»
- More lectures and involvement from the faculty, also appreciate Martin Christophers lecture and would be great if he"d get more involved.»
- More feedback on group asignments »
- The last seminar where you should create your own groups should have been announced earlier so that you had more time to form the groups. »
- No radical change. Maybe more feedbacks on the seminars, more teaching hours and a few less litterature. »
- The case competition case had only one solution. Maybe that is not so likely to happen in real life, it would have been interesting to be given some more room to be creative in the solution.»
- - The case competition jury, (not necessarily the people, but the mix of women and men). - Company visits would have been fun - Guest lectures from companies (interesting and a good way of networking)»

17. Additional comments

- Great course and an excellent start at the master program»
- Arni"s lectures were hard to follow - no red line. »
- The course was well organized, and it met my expectations.»
- Why should the first course include soo muuch repitition?»
- I would like to have more guest lecturer and maybe a site vistis. »
- Important is the first days in class. It would be nice to have a introduction with all lecturers in the course in the beginning as a teaser for what to come, and also good teambuilding. Now some guys directly solved it very well this time and thanks for the financial support there! We now have a fun class and that helps a lot!!! Probably the best class of all at Cahlmers (MSc).»
- It would have been even more interesting to include additional examples from reality in the lectures. It could have improved the overall understanding of the concepts. The articles were very good to add some more focused and deeper information, while the books were more scratching the surface, with not so illustrating case examples unfortunately (especially the red book). However, it is understandable that many parts were just shallow because of the course width and I think this introducing course was very good to get an overview of SCM. »
- Good course but a little bit to much overlap from the course logistik för M. »
- - More short cases could be used for group assignments in order to improve the case solving capabilities. Followed by a seminar to discuss it. - If possible, group the lectures in Supply Management together»
