- I do not understand the kindergarten approach to manadtory attendance. This programmme is designed for active seafarers and people alrwady working ashore and its not possible always to attend. It should be possible to make good the absence and not as it is now when the teacher asks you to return next year!» (75%)

- The goals of the course was not clear. Do you teach ism or quality assurance? I think there is no relation between ism and quality assurance since ism is a mandatory regulation like constitution or commercial law. You have to fulfill the requirement of ism otherwise you cannot make business. You said that focus of quality assurance is providing confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled and made a connection between ism and quality assurance.However it is not possible to provide confidence by fulfilling mandatory requirements because they are mandatory. According to your logic we can say that constitutional law is also part of quality assurance because constitutional law is also requirements of authorities. So that next year you can teach constitutional law instead of ism.» (I have not seen/read the goals)

- There were some questions about limitation of liability and alter ego and oil pollution. what is the relation between quality assurance and those subjects?» (No, not at all)

- you said it is an exam but there was Norwegian document about the fullcity case. it is not fair. there must be equal opportunities for all of the student.» (Very badly)

- You did not say anything about structure of the report and which aspects of the cases we should focus on about cases but after the presentations you made comments about structures and focuses of the reports. If you said, we could prepare an academically structured report. Additionally you made comments about page amount of the reports however you had not said anything about the length of the report. In the exam you did not wrote on the exam paper regarding which question worth how many points.» (Poor)

- You should completely change the course contents and define clear goals for the course whether you will focus on ism or quality management. since name of the program is maritime management, you should focus on practical implications of quality management in the shipping companies as a management level.»

16. Additional comments

- You should give different cases to each group for case studies. Main points of all reports were the same. I think it is not difficult to find cases since there are a lot of accidents.»
- grading of presentation was not fair at all. there wasnt any instruction for presentation though it was an examination. It was very funny to get some negative feedback from the teacher (Tor Erik) regarding structure of the written report although there wasnt any instruction. Two teacher in one lesson was also very bad. There was a communication problem between teachers and we were quite confused. All in all, this course was too poor.»
- The wholw course was about ISM. As the lecturers said ISM is not quality management. I was eager to learn practical quality management/assurance from a company perspective and not study some boring shipping accidents. This course was one thw worst courses so far. I would claim the teachers were not suited to this course.»
