- The Teaching rhythm or momentum just did not match. Towards the end of the course i just felt that wireless part is dominant and photonics part is just like a piece of peanut in the wireless cake. » (Seemed like two separate courses)
- There were some things in common but they required different treatment, eg noise figure, link budget. The only thing of integration was some slides for RoF.» (Seemed like two separate courses)
- if it is going to be a 30 p problem on the exam about the two course parts integrated (RoF) i think you should talk about it more than 15 min in the last lecture» (Seemed like two separate courses)
- Exept on the exam..» (Seemed like two separate courses)
- For me they where very apart from each other. It seemed as I was taking two courses instead of one.» (Seemed like two separate courses)
- Mostly seemed liked separate courses but with a couple shared components (noise/modulation techniques/physical constants)» (The two parts were somewhat integrated)
- By comparing the advantage of wireless systems and photonic systems and making a combination of them, e.g. Radio over Fiber» (Mostly well connected course parts)

14. Is there an added value of learning wireless and photonic system design in the same course, compared to studying them separately?

Please include comments!

Seemed like two separate courses»6 35%
The two parts were somewhat integrated»8 47%
Mostly well connected course parts»2 11%
Very well integrated»1 5%

- wierd answers...» (?)
- Not quite sure actually... Maybe good from a systems perspective of being able to compare the two. Somewhat confusing as well though as some things are referred to by the same name but are calculated in very different ways» (The two parts were somewhat integrated)
- Yes, the added value is that by comparing the difference between wireless systems and photonic systems we can take advantage of both methods» (Mostly well connected course parts)
- Yes, even though photonic and wireless systems work very differently there are some concepts which are used in both. In my opinion a good idea to have both parts in a course like this.» (Very well integrated)

Summarizing questions

15. What is your general impression of the course?

19 svarande

Poor»0 0%
Fair»2 10%
Adequate»7 36%
Good»9 47%
Excellent»1 5%

Genomsnitt: 3.47

- Good idea to study the block diagram level as motivation before going into details of how the different components are realized.» (Good)
- They where good themes but again, it seemed to be two courses instead of one.» (Good)

16. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Did not find anything extraordinary in the course.»
- great teamwork, good exercise for exam»
- Team work exercises helped a lot in learning.»
- the team works are very good. confusing but I learned a lot.»
- The teamwork, which were very useful for a better understanding of the main concepts of the course. The microwave tutorials were also very useful and the lecturer (Morteza) is really good at it, way above the other PhD students we have had in labs or tutorials.»
- the group work, it is funny»

17. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- more exercise in hold exam »
- Try to divide the course lectures and Exercises in equal between photonics and wireless parts,Else make them separate courses.»
- adding some compulsory assignment»
- Make a schedule of when we can expect to be able to solve the problems in the textbook. now Morteza found out that we got frustrated when we couldn"t solve the problems and made a list after a while. Make that list avaliable at course start, and state which problems can be solved when! The answers in the problem pages could involve some kind of clue of how the result is reached. only a number is useless when so menny assumptions has to be made. Also make the lecture plans more avaliable in separate documents instead of inside some slideshow. I always feel that writing on the blackboard is way better than reading information from slides...»
- Probably some more focus on the last parts of photonics, such as Radio over Fiber, especially if they are going to be 50% of the exam. The professors should also be more careful about their schedule. They did not take into account the Student Day, when we did not have class in the afternoon, and some lectures and tutorials had to be quite shortened or taught at a faster pace.»
- everything is fine»
- It could not see direct link between photonic and wireless parts. I believe that this course should be offered as two different courses. Moreover, lecturers should give extra points for group assignments.»
- the tutor for microwave part wasn"t that qualified!»
- Put the handouts available BEFORE the class.»

18. Additional comments

- Maintain the balance between wireless and photonics part not only in the teaching part but also in the exam. Wireless dominated everywhere.»
- In general i consider the examination as tough. There were some slides for RoF but the teachers had discussed very little about that. I think that it should not have been in the exams counting for the half points (30/60)!»
- no»
- i wish Sheila and Hans would dig deeper, and the most important thing is,asking Sheila to go through more exercises that look like the ones in exams.»
