- To much focus on relational algebra and theoretical stuff, to little focus on "reality".» (Fair)
- The problem with this course (as with many of chalmers courses) is that is very far away from the real life use of databases. And not in a good way. What made you choose shitloads of normalization, XQuery and relational algebra over for example even mentioning what Hibernate/Toplink is? The priorities are not even closely related to what you actually have use for in Real Life. If I ever have any practical use of relational algebra, I"m going to eat my hat. If I ever get a job which doesn"t include something like Hibernate/Toplink/JPA then I"m also going to eat my pants. What"s worse is that the labs and examples often used of very very bad practice methods. If you want to have more theoretical course (which of course is chalmers "thing") then good practices are the way to go, not relational algebra. I"m still waiting for the big warning sign attached to the information about triggers. Could say more about this, but it"d probably crash the evaluation form or something.» (Fair)
- The part about XML and index seems not to fit the rest of the course content.» (Good)
- Graham Kemp lectures were fantastic.» (Excellent)
- Great teaching, great labs and a good solid exam. One of the best courses so far.» (Excellent)
- This course has a clear goal, it"s easy to understand what you expect from the students. And it"s well balanced. Keep up the good work.» (Excellent)

16. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Grahams lectures, the "seminar" sessions were quite helpful to»
- labs»
- Graham.»
- Well... Everything.»
- lab»
- course organization»
- Labs»
- Teacher»
- the teacher»
- The lectures. If it wasn"t for my second course which also had lectures at the same time, I would have attended all lectures. The lab assignments were good, learned alot of these. The exercises with sessions are all good, even though I did not attend every session, it gives you a chance to ask questions. The hand-written paper should also be preserved to next year because of all the different syntax.»
- The teacher was very good. 2 of the course assistants were very helpful and helped responsibly (phu phung and Nicholas smallbone). the assignment was finely described and deliverables were clearly defined, also it was a practical (near to reality) case, I liked it! »
- The teacher, the labs»
- The labs»
- the lab assignment but could be more realistic»

17. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- relational algebra»
- Smaller assignments earlier would be good, these were sometimes repetitive.»
- available excerises with proper answers.»
- nothing»
- iSQL*Plus is horrible to use! A user interface disaster. Exercise questions should come with answers (duh). More detailed guidelines about how much data should be added on lab assignment 2. The exercise assistans sessions should follow some common idea. Depending on the assistant they were very different. The book is fine, but not actually needed. Powerpoint slides during the lectures (this is the 21st century).»
- You could probably extract this from the answer above.»
- Nothing really.»
- create a student and professor meeting forum to discuss things/questions related to the course.»
- getting help for lab assignments should be made easier! »
- The deadlines. Also, more lab sessions or more assistants.»
- Ā smaller lab since there is so much more than er we need to learn»
- remove the fire system»

18. Additional comments

- Would be interesting to hear a bit more about the applications of Database technology»
- One of the best courses I"ve taken.»
- I found it really hard to understand Pung during the tutorials.»
- Banana.»
