Goals and goal fulfilment

Large extent»17 36%
Great extent»3 6%

Genomsnitt: 2.36

- I can"t answer this one because I couldn"t attend any of the lectures.» (?)
- i believe there was no teaching on the first lecture sessions, but only writing. Examples made by the teacher were totally abstract, when they are suppose to be "landed" so that you can visualize what the professor is talking about.» (Small extent)
- Sima Shahsawari was better if we seek from learning poing of view. She tried to make the ideas clear during tutorial sessions. But there was more burden on her because she was alone to whom we could discuss theory as well as laborations.» (Small extent)
- The tutorials with Sima was helpful. The lectures didn"t give anything.» (Some extent)
- I think you could make the lectures more interesting by, for example, show simulations from Matlab (Mats did this). This would also increase the understanding. Also, I think it is better to focus more on the actual results rather than proofs and such. It is very difficult to follow a rather complicated proof on the black board. It just a waste of valuable lecture time for me. Instead it would be better to leave this as "home reading".» (Some extent)
- Lecture where to quick» (Some extent)
- Mats and Sima were very helpful» (Large extent)
- The content of the lectures was really helpful. The lectures themselves however were a lot of the time difficult to follow because of the pace and sometimes lack of structure. » (Large extent)

- I like books with a lot of examples as in this book!» (Large extent)
- Exercise sessions are very good. The lectures are also well planned and clearly articulated.» (Large extent)
- the book is absolutely great. it lacks of a good explanation on the Poisson process, but in general terms, it"s great.» (Great extent)
- The course was book really good and the computer laboration really helped understanding the course.» (Great extent)

8. How well did the course administration, web page, handouts etc work?

45 svarande

Very badly»0 0%
Rather badly»4 8%
Rather well»31 68%
Very well»10 22%

Genomsnitt: 3.13

- rather use the student portal as homepage.» (Rather well)
- I think it would be suitable to introduce the laborations on the lectures. Spend like 2-3 min to say some short words about them.» (Rather well)
- There where some mistakes in the labs which made it realy hard to understand and solve some problems.» (Rather well)
- The projects and handouts really worked well for me.» (Very well)

- We only had to ask questions from Sima. Because other than her no one was available. But most of the time she was more tired because of the large number of students in her office and hence wouldnot perform well.» (Very poor)

47 svarande

Poor»2 4%
Fair»3 6%
Adequate»16 34%
Good»22 46%
Excellent»4 8%

Genomsnitt: 3.48

- Lectures were really boring. The material is really good though. The last part with Mats Wiberg was very interesting, but to little time was spent on this which made the last lab very difficult.» (?)
- I have to say I expected more from the first Lecturer.» (Poor)
- The last part with Mats was good.» (Adequate)
- I think that the course should focus more on stochastic processes and less on basic probability. Since you really should know about basic probability before (it is explicitly stated as a prerequisite) I think it would be more suitable to spend like 3-4 lectures regarding this (instead of 7).» (Good)
- The content was good, the labs informative, although the second one was really tricky...» (Good)

14. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Mats und Sima»
- Sima and Mats!!!!!!!!!!»
- laborations»
- Text book, TA (if possible), Tutorial session structure.»
- + Laboration 1: gave a very good fundamental understanding of random processes. + Laboration 2 + Homework: Stimulates you to work on the exercises during the course.»
- Matlab experiments»
- The course book.»
- the course should be such designed to cope every student. the course material is to much for a student to cover »
- Exercise sessions, Homework problems»
- the literature is great»
- - laborations & homeworks - consultations - very useful !!!»
- The book»
- lab section»
- The exercises are very nice and should be preserved. Besides the book is very nice and and necessary to understand lectures. LABs are very important to know how random processes work.»
- exercise sessions»
- This last part with spectral analysis and filtering was interesting but I felt i didn"t get enough lectures in this part. More of Mats! »
- The book is very nice. Also, Sima is very nice.»
- The first lab.»
- Rossitza,Sima and Mats»

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- the homeworks! It"s difficult to solve the homework when they contain things that the teacher haven"t gone through yet.»
- The way the lecturer teaches in class and perhaps a professor could write a complement for the random processes topic, since the book is not covering that extensively.»
- -Sima should keep time! (break after 45 min (not 60) and stop PSS in time (not 15 min too late)) -Less focus on proofs and such and more focus on basic understanding of the theory.»
- more programming work»
- the speed of the lecture should be slowed down so the student can reach the pace of the lectrurer»
- I think there is nothing I can mention over here. I enjoyed each and every bit.»
- the lab seems useless»
- The way of teaching, which is far to fast»
- lab time schedual»
- I think it should be better to ask students to solve exercises before exercise class, the best way is to consider marks or bonus for them. besides LABs are very useful but since only pass and fail is important in them, students don"t pay attention to them very much. I think it is better to consider some marks for labs also. In my opinion it is better to give lectures to students before class to make students ready for lecturs.»
- the class should be the less intensive»
- Make sure to have email to all students so that when an error in for example a lab has been found, everyone in the class should be notified.»
- I guess that there should be two active TA"s with whom students can contact.»
- The lectures. A more structured approach would be better. A presentation of what is going to be presented during the lecture, division of the lectures into more clear subsections.»
- I just say that in the beginig of the period some of us speaked with Rozita to upload her note in site because she speak and write fast and we could not follow her as well as possible, she told this iss your problem I am a teacher and you are students and it is your problem and I could not help you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!»

16. Additional comments

- The exam was good. 5 problems is a suitable number of questions rather than 6 or 7 as it was in the old exams.»
- my opinion for this course is that, currently this course that i perceived is that just to cram the thing not to understand. as the workload is to much so one is not able to understand . the course should be like this that the student could get the basic concept of the random processes as not every one is from a strong background»
- Thank you for giving such a nice course.»
- having fun during the course»
- in most cases, the lecture notes are too much to be followed by us»
- I"ve really enjoyed the last letures given by Mr.Mats, it was really more structured and understandable than the first ones.»
