Goals and fullfilment of goals

The learning outcomes are given in the course programme, that is the knowledge, understanding, skills and perspectives you are expectd to reach. Notify for each outcome how well they have been fulfilled.

1. Learning outcome 1

To describe the interplay between space and movement, how spaces shape peoples movement. how the experience of space depends on certain movement, and how the character of the movement affect the experience.

- I think the course needs more research-literature considering movement to be read and discussed in the group. I don"t think your personal experience can fully describe a general point of view of how certain movements affects the experience of space. But I still think the first workshops are a good start to begin to think in those terms - but they need to go deeper into the subject (right now they could just as well have been done during the first year of education.) » (Insufficient)
- Only on a very basic level and in layman terms.» (Insufficient)
- I learned a lot from the software part of the course. The exploratory part needs a more rigid framework e.g. more references or insightful comments and anecdotes.» (Sufficient)

2. Learning outcome 2

To design an architectural concept and by use of spatial characteristics direct a movement and a spatial experience.

- The focus was mainly on analysis. A concrete design outcome of the analysis was never clearly exemplified. Of course I appreciate the link movement space ant spatial experience but some more examples apart from Borromini would be nice.» (Very insufficient)
- I think the movement part of the final design fell to the side because we were suppose to use the current plan of the terminal, which made us concentate much more in the structual design. Then it was some frustration considering the switch of assignment. From the start we were supposed to design a new entrance and not the rest of the building, which in it"s current state doesn"t have any actual problems connected to movement. » (Insufficient)

3. Learning outcome 3

To create mathematical, physical and parametric-controlled digital models for simulation, rendering and animation in order to explore space and movement, structure and climate.

- Even though we managed to create scripted models I think it"s not enough time to learn it fully. The climate simualtions was unfortunately not applicable on our advanced geometries, which made this part not investigated at all. » (Sufficient)
- The climate modeling was well tutored and Max had a great attitude. The problem was that the software and calculation we learned was hard to apply in a meaningful manner to the overall design. The CATIA experience was good but I would have liked to learn how to link data from CATIA back to other software.» (Sufficient)

4. Learning outcome 4

To describe the interplay between experience, usefulness, and an adaptive structure, how an adaptivit structure aids an efficient use of material and energy, and how spatial adaptivity opens for a multipurpose use of a building.

- There has been no focus or teaching on the subject of adaptiv structures in this course» (Very insufficient)
- No framework or connecting sessions was ever performed. A lecture and some cross-disciplinary tutoring session or 5 would have helped a lot. Again, guidance and examples are not prepackaged solutions but inspiration.» (Very insufficient)
- The energy part was missing out. » (Sufficient)

5. Are the aims and goals reasonable in relation to your pre-knowledge ?

5 svarande

No, the goals are to elementar»0 0%
Yes, the goals are reasonable»5 100%
No, the goals are too ambitious»0 0%
No opinion»0

Genomsnitt: 2

- The Goals are reasonable but not well founded in what was the actual course. » (Yes, the goals are reasonable)
- The goals are reasonable as long as the expected outcome is proportional e.g. the climate integration might be hard to stand by when the theories ? or software cant be very sure and most of the competence in the field is due to a lot of work experience.» (Yes, the goals are reasonable)

Education and course administration

6. What support have you got for your learning from course literature and other material?

- More literature is needed, that"s discussed during seminars etc. » (Rather little)
- Much more course material is needed. Please add some more texts, both compulsory and voluntary. General theory on computational design and structural optimization would be great. Just suggest on some references. Space Craft: Developments in Architectural Computing, ed. Littlefield, David Architectural Geometry, Pottmann, Helmut et al. » (Rather little)

7. How did the organisation, memoranda, direct information etc. function?

- The different teachers involved in the course have not communicated enough with eachother which have lead to a lot of frustrations among the students. The assignment needs to be decided and communicated from the start so we know what our studies are supposed to result in. » (Rather bad)

8. How do you rate the possibilities to get assistance and ask questions?

- But since I was rather confused during some of the project, it was hard to know what questions to ask tutors.» (Rather well)
- Since we were such a small class of students we were able to receive a lot of help (which was needed considering the fact that we were suppose to learn two new programs in only one week each), could perhaps be a problem next year when the group probably is going to be a lot more bigger. » (Very well)

9. How has the cooperation between you and students in your group been?

- The course didn"t feel like a whole or a laboratory course. It was three separated parts out very loosely together. The overall task came to late in the course. The first part was to vague. The Climate part didn"t fit with the overall exercise. The format of presenting was not very thought through or grounded. There was a great lacking of understanding from the teachers in the overall concept of the course. » (Very bad)
- Barely» (Passed)

11. What should be preserved next year?

- CATIA»
- The good spirit of the students.»
- The various workshops that were held in the beginning were a good introduction to the course.»
- Max Tillberg. Sergio Silva. Claes Caldenby - Give him more time.»

12. What shuold be changed the nest year?

- IDA»
- The course have great visions about the different topics of movement, structure and climate. But they need to be much more linked to eachother and maybe it"s a very ambitious goal to try to squeeze them all in this short amount of time. »
- A lot. Start with looking at what is possible to do with the software you want us to work with so that it fits the main idea. Then maybe the teachers could sit down and write down the exercises and tasks for the students so that we don"t get four different tasks from four different teachers. Talk to the tutors. Structure the course in a better way. Write easily understandable goals for the course.»
- It would be good if the assignment was more focused right from the start.»
- Give the guest critic some information and some time to look at our material before the critiquing session. Give examples of the implementation of the course goals. Banal is ok but please try to illustrate an integrated solution. Ask Gun to be more clear or have someone else clarify the things that she covers in her workshop. Again I see the point of Guns workshop but it is hard to get a more deep understanding without some salient comments from a teacher or accompanying reading material.»

13. Other comments

- It really sucked as a whole. »
- I am thankful for the assistance that i"ve received from the fellow students and from the teachers.»
- Please make sure that you all understand and communicate the same goals and intention to us. Coordinate.»
