(Rather poor)

- I thought it was to much repetion from previous courses, and not so much new knowledge in the beginning.» (No, the level was too low. (Please, specify))
- The modelling course had low set level, but it was fairly okay. The engineering geology course should be more advanced at a higher pace. Drinking water quite okay, cuold have been more difficult. Environmental systems analysis quite appropriate level.» (No, the level was too low. (Please, specify))
- Not much too low, it was just that there was too much repetition in the beginning of some of the courses, and the time spent on repetition could have been used for deeper studies instead.» (No, the level was too low. (Please, specify))
- Feel that the level was set to low, felt like a repetition course on the course teknisk geologi and geoteknik. The environmental course should be better integrated with our programme » (No, the level was too low. (Please, specify))

- Modeling and problem solving is an ok course if it is given in a good way. But te course was a total disaster since there was no comunication between the lecturers and the course was reallt confusing because of that. » (?)
- The GeoEng. and DWE course was ok but the rest was waste of time!» (Not at all)
(Not at all)
- I think the mandatory courses were quite useless. My opinion is that you have the basis from earlier studies. With theese mandatory courses you are forced to take courses that isn´,t in your interest. I, for example, see no use in learning drinking water when I am planning on specialize on road and traffic. If there should be any mandatory courses they should be of that content so that they are meaningful for every specialization in the Master programme.» (Small extent)
- Some courses i think are very low assessed before putting them in the program. the subject could be usefull but the way of teaching them is not.» (Small extent)
- The courses was generally on a to low level» (Small extent)

14. What topics did you miss among the mandatory courses? (Please, specify)

-
- is geo and water.... more geo and water than environmental systems»
- More trafficplanning and managemant courses. I thin all studnets should be able to take the course Project management (or at least be able to choose between that one or anoter).»
- Some more general introduction to infrastructural engineering.»
- none»
- I have no idea»
- Kort sagt, fler väg- och vattenkurser.»
- nothing»
- Geo, water, environment and general engineering was included. That is four of five different subjets in the program, not sure if roads and traffic should be included or not.»
- Maybe a basic course in waves and coastal structures»
- More geotechnical courses»
- Geotechnics»
- Geoteknik. Programmet heter GEO & Water»
- Geoteknik»
- some more in depth geotechnics »

15. What topics included in the mandatory courses are not relevant according to you? (Please specify)

- Drinking water and Environmental Risk Assesment. I don"t think the courses are wrong, but I don"t think they should be mandatory.»
- Modeling and problem solving is an ok course if it is given in a good way. But te course was a total disaster since there was no comunication between the lecturers and the course was reallt confusing because of that. »
- environmental systems analysis, risk assessment in engineering. Is a geo and water enginneering. I know is important to see the environmental side, but not so into it. Theres a master to study that.»
- MOdelling-ingen rød tråd alls. Kursen var ett skæmt. INGEN relevans.
- Environmental measurements and assessments, Drinking water engineering (should be an elective course!)»
- none»
- I have no idea»
- It is interesting to have an environmental course for personal opening. However, it would have been nice if it would have been more related or concrete to the major of the master, that is to say water & soil»
- I guess they were, but I did not apreciate them a lot. Too much projects in different groups and too many assignments. »
- nothing»
- Drinking Water and env. courses »
- There are some courses which should not have been mandatory such as Environmental systems Assessement in Geo & water. It could have been elective and other couses such as geotechnics could be mandatory instead.»
- Water courses and environmental courses»
- The environmental course did not feel useful, it should have been more concrete and involve more how to work with and solve environmental issues, not just rattle off ten tools (of which I only can remember five today...)»
- Environmental system analysis»
- the environmental course if its focus isnt changed»

- Ingen uppfattning.» (Not at all)
- The mandatory courses evens out the differences in background, for instance: many chemistry bachelors take this master program and they catch up during the first semester. However, the differense in group work, report writing and oral presentation skills between swedish and international students is ridicilously large, and is not overcome during the whole length of the two-year program. » (Not at all)
- There arn"t many courses that are linked together, thus it"s not possible to say if the student knowledge was uniform» (Small extent)
- The background and the skills of the exchange students varied a lot, I think Chalmers should look more closely at the knowledge and skills required when starting at the programme. » (Small extent)
- Some courses required more chemical knowledge.... it was basic at elast but some difficulties for civil engineers.» (Some extent)
- Engineering geology: med gruppresa (övernattning) och slumpade projektgrupper» (Some extent)
- As the backgrounds were appoximately the same, it has been easy to start working in groups with other people. Besides, it was really interesting since the way of working or thinking is not always the same, and one can thus learn and develop other skills.» (Large extent)

19. Do you miss some elective courses or topics that you think should be included in the programme? (Please specify)

- I think there are way too few courses to choose among. It isn"t possible to specialize in only one or even two of the directions the master programme offers. You always had to choose two out of three courses within the master programme. I would like to see more traffic courses. For example a course about tracks (trains and trams). I could also see more geotechnical courses. »
- Yes, alot more to choose from. Both in road and trafik and geotechnics, but could also be more watercourses. You could study all three genres completely and yet still need more to "fill out" your education. Need more teachers in road and trafik so more courses can be given!!»
- slope stability (in english, is given ins wedish only).... foundation engineering or retaining walls structures.»
- Trafikkurser, ledarskapskurser.
- Traffic safety, public transport planning and more advanced courses in road engineering. Cooperate with Lunds tekniska högskola!»
- I have no idea»
- another traffic course»
- Mer väg och vatten-kurser! Bort med miljökurserna!»
- Yes, I miss a course in city planning. »
- Mer kurser i geoteknik, geologi, bergbyggnad. »
- There should be at least two more elective courses for each of the topics water, geology and geotechnics.»
- more geotechnics»
- More geotechnical courses»
- More traffic courses and geo courses»
- Oh yes! More courses should be given within the GEO and WATER field (after all, it is the name of the programme). Remove most of the damn environmental courses from the programme (keep them in an environmental master programme) and give us more GEO and WATER! »
- Maybe a course in hydrogeology»
- I miss the lack of courses to chose between, in LP3 we only had 2 courses in the program to chose. »

- But no info from the program» (Good)
- as many of the elective courses on Geo and water are rather uninteresting» (Very good)
(Very good)

- Lack of everything except the schedule. General information wasn"t sufficient. And the support from the administration was awful. You couldn"t get a clear answer ever. Took weeks before you could get an answer. And so unclear what the rules where for the programe. There are different rules for the different programmes. are they suppose to have that. for example MTS-courses are optional if you take master in one programme but not for the Civilingenjörsexamen, but for other programmes it"s the total opposite.» (Poor)

- The education gets poorer (after all, the teachers are not speaking fluent English, most of them are doing OK, though) and it is not at all as easy to learn and understand the subject. I find it harder to start a dialogue with the teachers (gets harder to express oneself ). The only positive thing is that you get better at the English language. » (Rather bad)
- But the education has really taken a big strike because of that. The quality has decreased because of the lecturers inadiquate english knowledge. Much of the information is still in swedish which is despicable since it"s an international programme. What will the non-swedish people do with that information, how will thay be able to understand the course?» (OK)
- It is good because we get used to use the language, but I think we miss some parts in the courses because the teachers are nog used to speak english, and it is hard for them to find the right literature for the course in english.» (OK)
- Good to know english better bad that I dont know the swedish word fore some stuff...» (OK)
- I have get used to it.» (OK)
- English is an unievrsal and simple language. is easy to udnerstand an dthe majority of the professors are good at it.» (Very good)
» (Very good)

27. What should definitely be preserved in your master"s programme?

- the real Geo & water subjects.... drinking water eng., waste water eng., water waves mechanics, road engineering, geothecnics, eng. geology, etc.»
- The course Eng. Geo and DWE (in autumn 1 year)»
- The GIS course»
- study visits, group work, guest lectures»
- study visit»
- study visit, assignment, guest lectures from companies »
- the available courses»
- Geotechic and road engineering.»
- som det är, men fler valbrar kurser»
- The geotechnical courses»
- The geo and traffic courses»
- The course engineering geology»
- Studiebesöket med engineering geology. Den kursen var väldigt bra»
- the geotechnic parts»

28. What should definitely be changed in your master"s programme?

- There must be more courses to choose among.»
- Give mandatory english courses for the teachers and rules that everything needs to be in english.»
- the courses in environmental systems analysis, risk assessment in engineering environmental management... 1 of them is compulsory ESA..... and i really dont think taht should be ina course about earth and water.... »
- The course Modelling and MFA in (in autumn 1 year)»
- Too many elective courses that are dealing with environmental questions. If I wanted to read them I would have chosen the master programme Environmetal measurements and assessments! »
- it is too much assignment for some course»
- In Geo and water engineering dep. most courses are focused around water i belive some courses should be added from the other depatment. department also.»
- Färre miljökurser!»
- The changes that need to be made are more on Chalmers level than on program level. The international student should have group work training, report writing classes and oral presentation training. After all, we do during our first three years here at Chalmers, why should they be accepted into the program if they do not meet the standards in this matter. As it is now, the swedish student do not develop their skills in this area at all during the master program since we have to lower our standards and start over when we begin the master program. »
- lectures in swedish or lecturers with better skills in english are needed!»
- An english course for everyone should be nice, and also a course for the exchange students to learn how we use lists of references and rip-offs in theses.»
- More geo-courses, we got one new, that is very good! But i think a couple more would be nice.»
- Seperate the env and water from the geotecnical area.»
- More information about courses. Less water and environmental courses. Better study environment»
- Please give us more courses within the field of geo and water engineering!!! (the infrastructural... course was one step in the right direction)»
- More elctive courses!»
- the environmental course»

- Ingen aning» (?)
- I think that the language should be optional. The company I write my master thesis for has all their work in swedish and are not intressed in an english report. What is then the point of translating the whole master thesis to english just because "it should be".» (Rather poor)
- The rules differ from programme to programme.» (OK)
