- The problem with having so much points in the assignments compared to the exame is that classmates (of course) help eachother out. This means some people will pass the course without actually fulfilling ANY goal above. To be honest this is especially true with the foreign students. Still, I think the assignments and the system overall where great for those who did there homework.» (To some extent)
- Uppgifterna som gav bonuspoäng var till stor hjälp» (To some extent)
- Is possible to finish the course without doing much if you have a good working partner in the project. » (Yes, definitely)

- I thinkit would be better to sit infront a computer and fallow instructions from the lecturer than it is to first listen and then apply it by your self as it was in this case» (Small extent)
- The computer lab was not really useful because it was too short. I would have liked learning more about ABAQUS or other commercial software instead of working with matlab» (Small extent)

- The book we used in this course is one of the best books, if not the best, that I have read during my hole Chalmers experience.» (Great extent)

- The project works took a lot of time for me, but that was mostly because I"m not very good at using Matlab.» (Adequate)
- I had a huge interest in this course so I didn"t think much about the workload..» (Adequate)
- I spend most of the time on the project work so I didnt have time to calculate any tasks in the example book. But I think that I learned more by working with the projects. But maybe the result of the written exam would be better if I spend more time on the tasks in the example book, because then I should have been used to solve the problems by hand.» (High)
- some where between adequate and high depending on the assignments» (High)
- The workload was too high to have enough time left for the heat & moisture course. But I also think maybee this high workload is needed to get all the knowledge nescesary.» (Too high)

Summarizing questions

23. What is your general impression of the course?

48 svarande

Poor»1 2%
Fair»1 2%
Adequate»8 16%
Good»20 41%
Excellent»18 37%

Genomsnitt: 4.1

- Definitly best course this fall in our program» (Good)
- Great exercise instructer (Andreas) and examiner (Fredrik, interested to teach and competent)» (Excellent)
- since I had the chance to take part on three different FEM courses recently (FEM in Simul. and Design, Computations in Mechanics, FEM-basics) I have to admit, that the way of how the rather tricky theory of FEM is presented, is done best in this course. This is because of the very clear and memorable lecture (hardly a lecturer is presenting mathematical theory in such a nice way! Great!)and apropriate assignments, which feel like a nice practical implementation of theory.» (Excellent)
- This course was just great!» (Excellent)

24. What is the remaining value of the course in the future?

46 svarande

Very small»0 0%
Rather small»10 21%
Rather high»20 43%
Very high»16 34%

Genomsnitt: 3.13

- I think it should focus in using the most common commercial software, that is the one we are probably going to use in the future.» (Rather small)
- For me that is since I don´,t think I understood everything that I was supposed to.» (Rather small)
- i didnt pass :(» (Rather high)
- not sure..» (Rather high)
- The courses in Mechanical Engineering are in general much more clearer, well-organized and straightforward. That"s too bad.» (Very high)

25. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- Everything»
- Most of the content of the course.»
- I think the fact that one of the assistants was a student was very well since he was accessible all the time, and it was a good way to ask questions. Furthermore, the way of learning through projects rather than a lot of theoretical things is very well working. »
- The assignments. Maby we as V-students should learn about beams aswell.»
- all»
- The litterature.»
- The projects, the course book, the examinator.»
- Fredrik Larsson. Great lectures!»
- please don"t change the lecture as a whole! It"s great. »
- The project works.»
- nearly all»
- Fredrik Larsson and the stress/strain part»
- The project »
- boken och projekten.»
- The teachers and their commitement..»
- The projects themselves were very helpful for me, because they were challenging. At the same time, they were a good preparation for the exam.»
- the assignements»
- The projects»
- The assignments and that they are not manditory»

26. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- Nothing, besides clearer information about the FEM-HAME-project»
- The second home exercise should be handed out in time next year. But if I understood it right it was more or less Heat and moisture that caused the delay.»
- Rather than only one computer session with ABACUS more sessions has to be introduced..Further instead of using MatLAB ABACUS could be used in project-3. This really provides more exposure to commercial tool.»
- I think the course is too interacted with heat engineering, specially one of the projects. There are many students who are good in finite element but are not interested to do heat engineering problems with FE method. For example, it is not good when somebody should take heat engineering since it is obligatory, but he or she should tolerate this course in FEM course as well.»
- varying computer rooms»
- Too much lectures, narrow it down to the most important and do not waste time with repeating.»
- Less heat flow, and more mechanical problems.»
- Perhaps the exercises. One idea is to not do calculations on things lectured earlier that same day, so you have time to read it through on your own before.»
- So that classes and exercises are in the same building.»
- annoying was the deadline for the last assignment. We hardly had 12 days for the most complicated of the three assignements in a very, very busy time! There are other lectures which are challenging us two weeks in front of the exams! Maybe the date of handout can be set to an earlier date!»
- Some more focus on how the matrixes and vectors "look like" and maybe some more exampels on the lectures.»
- Would you please ask if students want to do a project related with Heat and moisture.»
- I think one of the projects should be worked with abaqus instead of matlab»
- Maybe introduce more stress/stress and less heat engineering»
- lectures (it"s too much similar sith what is written in the book). I think students need more details during courses for a better understanding»
- good knowledge of matlab is necessary for the course and there should be a preparatory even small course for students who are unfamiliar with it.»
- Sammarbetet med heat and mositure i ett av projekten rörde till en del och kanske kan skippas? »
- I would have had a greater understanding of FEM if I didn´,t have to spend all my time using mathlab. I understand however that it has to be a big part of the course.»
- more teaching for the Matlab progam»
- I"m not sure whether the calculated examples in the computer class helped a lot, maybe it would be better to have more time for consultation regarding the assignments, working on the assignments etc. instead, especially for those not familiar with MATLAB.»
- better or no abacus teaching»
- Computer lab in smaller groups Better repartition of the work in the exercises »
- better computer lab.. One that is more helpfull for the future or something that makes sense»

27. Additional comments

- Definitly one of the best courses this far in both the bachelor and the master program.»
- I believe that it will better if professor put lecture notes on handout.»
- the introductory lecture about matlab should take place in a computer room instead of the lecture classroom, where students could use the matlab to check the instructions»
- I dont like the way the points are calculated, possible to get 9 points from project work, and 9 from exam is ok... but i know there are students who is working in project with "the right person" and get 9 points from project work, without understanding anything.. and only needs to make 1 point at the exam... this is not a good way to learn any subject. I would like it to be scored in the same way, but to get an "approved" the student needs to have at least 3 of 9 points at the project work, and at least 3 points on exam.. in this way i think the points would better show the knowledge from each student...»
