- The compendium I didn"t buy, because I thought that the lecture and the tecture notes would give more. The "green book" was interesting.» (Some extent)
- The green booklet was a usefull help, but the compedium was maybe too thick so that it was difficult to know which information was relevant, and some texts sommetimes said the same thing!» (Some extent)

- Why post the complete answers to one of the assignments two days before deadline?? This is extremely unfair to those who decided to make an effort and think for themselves in comparison to those who just copied the posted solutions.» (Rather badly)
(Rather badly)
- It worked well besides that my hand-in somehow dissapeared when I uploaded it. I took a screenshot of the upload page (where I can see my uploaded file) and sent it to the teacher responsible of that seminar, in order to help you follow up the problem.» (Rather badly)
- Name the lecture: L1 "Name" L2 "Name" And more maps» (Rather badly)
- The handouts section could be better sorted : some lectures are not in the "lectures" folder. It could be interesting to have a folder for guest lectures.» (Rather well)
- The webpage in some cases seems messy. The lectures are not titled properly, and I had to go through them every time to find what I was looking for» (Rather well)

- It was good with the seminars that you had to discuss things. Espcially since the participants in the course had such a broad bacckground, both concerning natinality and study program. Therefore it could have been good if some of the assignments were obliged to be done in groups (2-4 persons) to get even more integration. » (Rather well)

- I would say that it was quite optional. The seminar assignments took quite a lot of time but for the rest it was more or less up to you how much you wanted to learn. It could have been good if the seminar hand-ins were noted to give bonus points on the exam. Then people would put even more efforts while doing them.» (Adequate)
- Big difference in preparation time for the seminars» (Adequate)
- Preparation for the seminars was very time consuming. Maybe two-three of the articles could have been cancelled out, there was very much to read!» (High)
- Lot of work in the beginning with the three seminars very close to each other. Then when the guest lectures arrived, we had nothing to do anymore (except preparing for the exam). It could be nice to transfer some workload from the beginning of the quarter to the end.» (High)
- A LOT TO READ!!!» (High)

- Lots of hand-ins.» (High)
- I had this course as an extra course beside my master program so I had three courses in total, but it went well.» (High)
- The preperation for the seminars in combination with the hand-ins in the other course left very little time for self-studies. That was a problem.» (High)

- Jag läste Miljö-och energiteknik förra året, och jag tycker att det är riktigt tråkigt att de två kurserna är så pass lika. En del föreläsningar var nästan identiska!» (Fair)
- Good with diffrent perspectives. Thought I find the complexity and understanding inte course is not well covered in the exam. » (Adequate)
- The course content is interesting and the seminar is a good way of learning, but I thought that there were to many different lecturer which lead to a feeling of "no red thread" throughout the course» (Adequate)
- Each lecturer brings an answer without an entire coherence or compatibility, but I guess it is due to the concept of Sustainable Development itself. I think I have more understand the concept of Sustainable Development in the course Assessing Sustainability-Assignment.» (Adequate)
- Due to the nature of the course, I mean lots of different lecturers and different contents, we sometimes hear the same thing many times (e.g : the CO2 emissions diagram). It could be nice to coordinate this between teachers, so that we don"t waste time in learning the same things many times but new things.» (Good)
- but sometimes we heard the same content and the same topics (also tables and graphs) from different teachers. I mean its ok in a way but its waste of time... all in all also also think that the emount of lectures was therefor a bit too high!!» (Good)
- Should recommend it to people. You really got the feeling that all the god teachers where on this course, Also the guest lectures was good, I went even though they weren"t really an important part of the course.» (Good)
- The teachers were very good, which made the lectures very interesting. Among the best I been at during my years at Chalmers. » (Good)
- Overall, I thought this was a great course. A great mix of variety of topics and lecturers, including the guest lecturers.» (Excellent)
- But I should see the results of the exam to say this. The course itself is great, a lot of knowledge, very interesting, with great teachers.» (Excellent)
- My answer to the question might be a bit biased since I think the subjects taught in the course are very interesting but I can"t help thinking it"s a great course,» (Excellent)
- This is a course that everyone should take. It"s important for every engineer to be aware of this things. I also got a lot of knowledge that helps me following the daily news ans debate about these issues. » (Excellent)
- Best course I"ve ever taken. Much because of the high standard of lecturers. Inspiring!» (Excellent)

14. What should definitely be preserved to next year?

- The seminars. The variety amongst lecturers.»
- The seminars - but maybe with even more discussions.»
- I liked the lectures that focused more on companies and how you can earn money on SD (mainly Ulrika"s lectures)! Very interesting!»
- The seminars were very helpful.»
- Quite everything»
- Seminars»
- Good with diffrent lechturers. »
- The structure in general is very good. The seminars were useful to discuss concepts and have a more active participation. »
- Guest lectures»
- the seminars»
- Bra med många gästföreläsare»
- Bo Kjellen»
- The relation between the teachers and the students, the guest lectures and the seminars.»
- the seminars and the guest lectures»
- It"s hard to think of anything to drop.»
- very interesting with many different guest lectures.»
- Thee content of the lectures»
- The seminars should be preserved.»
- this functionment. And that"s also good to have some intervenants.»
- seminars»
- The different guest lecturers»
- Seminars and lessons about the ethics (I think ethics explanations about environmental issues are not very common)»
- The seminars with discussions between students.»
- The guest lectures.»
- I think it is great that so many different lecturers teach their respective areas of research and expertise. Most of the guest lecturers were very interesting to listen to.»
- The variety of teachers and subjects.»
- Te seminars were good, but we would have need more time for the discussion (2h was not enought).»
- The spacial lectures whith outside readers. that is something that gives exitment for the lectures of this course»
- Seminars»
- The second seminar»
- Lectures of external speakers»
- seminars, guest lecture, talking shared»
- The lecturers»
- Diversity on subjects and respective lecturers.Seminars.»
- keep different lecturers from different organizations (WWF, a Swedish nuclear ONG, greenpeace ...)»
- Almost everything»
- The mix of different lectures.»
- Reading»
- Guest Lecturers Seminars»
- Seminars. »

15. What should definitely be changed to next year?

- More tricky questions, instead of just learning a bunch of definitions. More debate. »
- Better connection between the guest lecturers and the course so that it is clear why they are there, and what they will contribute to the learning goals etc»
- The seminars did not give me anything at all. They could be taken away!»
- Maybe we could see more of the social aspect of sustainable development : we had only one lecture about intergenerational justice and it was mainly economic stuff.»
- The hand-in where all the answers were given can be removed, or don"t hand out the answers since it still took a long time to copy the answers when we found out what was wrong.»
- Some of the lectures were unclear about relevance, and some were more relevant but not really told about. Be more clear about the included parts. »
- De olika föreläsarna borde prata ihop sig mer, det var en hel del upprepning.»
- Try to get the lecture more linked together»
- Maybe more seminars, talk more about other environmental issue than global warming and try to coordonate the different teachers to not doing the same things varioous times.»
- may be there should be and a book as well apart from the articles in the compendium.»
- Some thoughts: The seminars would seem to be difficult to consistently improve, but sometimes they were excellent, and sometimes not so excellent. Debating among class members usually made it more valuable, and also, when the seminar supervisor summarized the points to be taken away from the seminar. Also, consider compiling and providing a list of useful web links to sites which can be used to dig further into various topics, and as well, a list of books that might be recommended (not for adding to what would be contained on the exam)for further knowledge in the subject. It would even be useful to know what is going on at other major universities with respect to focus on sustainable development.»
- The seminars could be improved, the third one with Ulrika was the one that I learned most from»
- The Compendium...Too big, photocopies of photocopies of articles for some of them.»
- a clear description of what you expect from us (in general) for example why we don"t get the answers of previous exams.»
- The amount of reading»
- too much to read! Somehow it is too much and then it is imposible to remember everything, and specific questions about a report are very difficult. Maybe the teachers can give some tips of how to manage to study them...»
- Do not put the solution to hand-ins on the course web page BEFORE deadline.»
- Could be good if the assignments gave bonus points on the exam. Could have more time for seminars and discussions. »
- The compedium can be more efficient to provide the information. Some texts were full of info (The report from the FAO), while some other were rather poor. Otherwise, maybe the most important texts should be pointed out. I also had difficulties to find information about Kyoto. »
- the first seminar»
- Maybe the compendium, not very clear compared to the Man and material flows.»
- stop lecture which are just reading lecture for the teacher»
- Longer seminars. 2h was not enough at all.»
- Less emphisize on analitical tools can be better. Not much left from these subjects in my mind.»
- The discount rate. The big classes in this course are sust. energy systems and industrial ecology. both of these programs now take sust. energy futures, where much of the material is discussed again. discount rate was an odd bird in sust. dev., but is now taught more thoroughly. The WWF-guest lecture was quite boring and uninteresting»
- It would be useful if the seminars were more challenging and demanded that students debate more by putting individuals on different sides. Since there are many that still struggle with english it was often dissapointing of the participation of the seminars.»
- More information about LCA.»
- Relate to the compendium more during the course.»
- Nothing in particular»
- In the seminars less time should be spent on the tasks that all students should have prepered and more time on discussion.»
- Less to read in the compendium and additional lectures?»
- Not so much time on calculating, better to discuss.»

16. Additional comments

- I guess the slides are the basic material for the examination, so they are important. I felt that some of the slides were highly optimized for a presentation but as a result of that not very suitable for learning with them for an exam. I often missed structure in the slides and also especially in the compendium. The texts in there might be interesting but i would have wished a guidance through them and not only getting a bunch of paper, not knowing what to do with it. The booklet "man and material flow" on the other had has a very good structure and was easy to understand, even it might need some updates, as it is from the last century. All in all, I have a mixed feeling about this course, as it presented very interesting topics and each of them in a good way, but i feel confused about the relation between them and it is hard to summarize what I learned, as I can only see fragments, and not an overall picture.»
- I am not in the School programm I have chosen : I am an erasmus student.»
- Much of the information provided in the lectures was something that I already knew or did not seem relevant for my master program.»
- Maybe the documents and participation on the seminars could give extra points for the final exam. This can be a way to motivate students even more»
- it is good when the lecture slides are posted on the web page before the class.»
- Svårt att förstå discounting. Tydliga exempel»
- It would be helpful to put a column showing the recommended reading directly in the schedule.»
- The hand-ins did not result in any bonus points which I would of appreciated»
- To put it simply, great course!»
- An excellent course! Very well done. »
- maybe you can add a small project, work with organisation around a theme»
- surprisingly productive an provocative.»
- why don"t you invite people not very famous for sustainable development and see how they deal with ? (Shell, BP ...)»
- Talk to Christian Azar, who teaches the coure Sustainable energy futures, and make sure that the two courses do not use the same slides (his fault as much as yours). The exam results has yet not been published, and the due-date is coming up soon. It is always nice when the result comes quick. »
- I enjoyed the guest lecturers. They were relevant. It would have been a good exercise for the students to have to do more research projects on their own where they have find their own sources and develop their own arguments.»
- None»
